Safety specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate wins multimillion-pound Shell contract.

Aberdeen-based marine safety specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate has secured a multimillion pound contract to supply and service life-saving equipment in Shell’s Southern North Sea sector. The three-year contract follows a successful tender to AJS, the joint venture set up by AMEC, Jacobs Engineering, and Stork Industry Services to deliver the ONEgas integrated services contract. ONEgas is the single management and operational structure combining the Southern North Sea assets of Shell UK Exploration & Production and Dutch partner company NAM. AJS carries out maintenance, modification and capital projects work for ONEgas production facilities, including 51 offshore assets and two gas plants — at Bacton, Norfolk, and at Den Helder in the Netherlands.

Survival Craft — which already holds a contract to provide the same services for Shell’s Northern sector — will service the AJS contract from new premises on the Harfreys Industrial Estate in Great Yarmouth. The company has invested £750,000 in staffing and equipping the base, which opened in January and comprises a workshop, extensive storage facilities and a large office area. Survival Craft — which has its headquarters at Aberdeen’s Findon Shore — has more than 20 years’ international experience in the manufacture, inspection, testing, and servicing of life-saving equipment. As well as operating from the UK and Norway, it has a global footprint comprising bases in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, China, and the US. Survival Craft Global Business Development Manager Derek Sinclair said: “This contract both builds on our existing relationship with Shell and also vindicates our decision to establish a base in Great Yarmouth to better serve Southern North Sea clients.”
