KR, Oldendorff, GSR Pact for IHM Certification

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

April 22, 2019

The Korean Register (KR) of Shipping has entered into an agreement with the  dry bulk shipping company Oldendorff Carriers and GSR Services for the development and certification of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for Oldendorff's fleet for meeting tight EU - deadlines.

The classification society reminded in a press release that from the end of 2020 onwards, the EU-Ship Recycling Regulation requires that all EU-visiting or EU-flagged ships have a certified IHM on board. With 30,000 to 40,000 ships being affected, IHM-Expert resources are expected to become scarce in the near future.

Michael Suhr, Technical and Commercial Director of Korean Register North Europe added: “KR is pleased to offer its customers this technical solution which has been developed at the best competitive price for the market. The experience and expertise of our partners Nautilus Log and GSR Services in this field, combined with KR’s established expert global network will allow us to offer excellent business synergies to the fleet of our client Oldendorff Carriers.”

Nils-Ole Vollmer, Junior Project Manager of the Oldendorff Carriers Fleet Projects Department commented, “We have selected GSR Services and Korean Register (KR) as partners for efficient IHM-projects with a proper reputation for ensuring quality and timely compliance. This proactive approach ensures that our fleet is safe for our crew, will meet the EU-deadlines in a timely manner, and we will avoid penalties when visiting any EU-ports from 2021 onwards.”

GSR Services has been chosen, as it is one of the most experienced expert companies in this field. Its founder and CEO has already been involved in the legal discussions at IMO and the EU with practical implementation since 2005.

GSR Services provides its efficient IHM services in major ports via its own global network of certified IHM-Experts (USA, EU, China, South Korea, Russia, India, and Bangladesh). By using the award-winning IHM-Application of NautilusLog, preparation of IHMs becomes much faster and more cost-effective. By using NFC-tags it additionally supports on board tracking and IHM-maintenance by owners, which is required as soon as IHMs are certified.
