Great Lakes Limestone Trade Up in July
Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.9 million tons in July, an increase of 15.4 percent compared to a year ago, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reported. July’s loadings were also slightly ahead of the month’s five-year average.
Loadings from U.S. quarries totaled 3.16 million tons, an increase of 22.3 percent compared to a year ago, while shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 700,000 tons, a decrease of 60,000 tons, LCA said.
According to LCA, Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at 12.6 million tons, a decrease of 9.6 percent compared to a year ago. Loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries total 10.3 million tons, a decrease of 1.4 percent. Shipments from Ontario quarries total 2.35 million tons, a decrease of 13.4 percent.
