Malaysia Receives Six New Patrol Boats
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) receive the boats from the builders, Limbongan Destination Marine Service.
The six new craft will add to the MMEA's southern region fleet of 16 patrol ships and more than 50 boats, which patrol the area constantly.
Instances have been reported to MMEA when Indonesian authorities have prevented local [Malaysian] fishermen from fishing in Malaysian waters. A protest was filed with Indonesia but no explanation of these incidents has been received, reports the 'Straits Times'. It was considered that the addition of the new patrol boats to the fleet would help curb these incidents.
