Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) was awarded an advance planning contract for the refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).The contract, which is initially funded for one year and has a base value of $187.5 million, includes engineering, design, material procurement and fabrication, documentation, resource forecasting, and pre-overhaul inspections. Future modifications could extend the period of performance to 30 months and increase the contract value if additional options are exercised.

U.S. shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division has begun testing the updated catapult systems aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), which is nearing the end of its midlife refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH). Working with the Navy crew aboard Abraham Lincoln, Newport News shipbuilders are testing the steam catapult systems through a process called “no-load” testing, during which the overhauled components in the catapult systems are operated with steam for the first time. Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) was awarded a $224 million modification to an existing contract for advanced planning of the refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). The work will be performed at the company's Newport News Shipbuilding division. The contract funds continued planning work for the RCOH as well as the procurement of long-lead materials, including items such as pumps, breakers, valves and steel to support fabrication of structural units.

With tugboats guiding it into the James River, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was moved from one of Newport News Shipbuilding’s drydocks to an outfitting berth on Monday. Although the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2016, its legacy lives on, and so does one of its anchors. Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division recently installed one of Enterprise's anchors on younger carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). USS Enterprise, originally built by Newport News in the 1960s and refueled for the third and final time in the early '90s, is currently docked at the shipyard's Pier 2 for inactivation.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that its Newport News Shipbuilding division has received a $49.6 million contract to begin planning for work on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). The contract is for 12 months and includes planning, engineering and shipboard inspections for work  associated with the defueling of the ship. "We are pleased to be able to begin planning for the defueling of CVN 73," said Chris Miner, Newport News  Shipbuilding's vice president, in-service aircraft carrier programs. The USS George Washington is the sixth Nimitz-class carrier built by Newport News and the fourth Navy ship to be named after the first president of the United States.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that Mike Petters, its president and CEO, was honored by the Navy League of the United States New York Council at a dinner last night in New York City. Petters was awarded the Rear Admiral John J. Bergen Leadership in Industry Award for his leadership of HII and the company's achievement in designing and building the ships that help maintain the sea power that assures the United Sates' security and economic prosperity. He was one of five individuals recognized by the Navy League.

Huntington Ingalls Industries says that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division recently placed a new upper-level structure on top of USS Abraham Lincoln's (CVN 72) island, which is similar to an airport control tower. The aircraft carrier is undergoing its refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH), during which the shipyard refuels the ship's reactors, paints the ship's hull, modernizes systems and performs a complete recapitalization of the entire ship. HII explains that the structure, which will contain the ship's primary flight control systems when outfitted and serves as the platform for many of its various radars and antenna systems, is one of the largest structure lifts that will be performed during the RCOH process.

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, redelivered the flat-top following  successful sea trials that tested the ship's systems after its refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at the shipyard. The sea trials, conducted by the U.S. Navy alongside NNS shipbuilders onboard, tested the carrier's systems and operations at sea, including high-speed operations. The trials team put the ship through a series of tests designed to prove system performance and demonstrate all the carrier's capabilities at sea.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has received a $745 million cost-plus-incentive fee contract for the inactivation of the aircraft carrier 'USS Enterprise' (CVN 65). The work will be done at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division. The ship was towed from Naval Station Norfolk to NNS on June 20 under the existing planning contract. NNS will defuel the eight nuclear reactors and prepare Enterprise for its eventual transit to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. The work is scheduled to complete in August 2016.

Northrop Grumman Corporation successfully redelivered the nation's newest and most advanced nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), to the U.S. Navy after a post shakedown availability (PSA). Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) reported that first quarter 2009 earnings from continuing operations increased 48 percent to $389 million, or $1.17 per diluted share, compared with $263 million, or $0.76 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2008.
