Standard Drilling Sells PSV Standard Princess

Oslo-listed offshore energy investment firm Standard Drilling announced it has sold the platform supply vessel Standard Princess for $10.3 million.The Cyprus-headquartered company said Wednesday it completed the transaction after announcing a memorandum of agreement to sell the vessel in November.The large 93.4-meter-long PSV was built at Norway's Aker Brattvaag in 2008, with 1,060 square meters of deck space.Following the sale, Standard Drilling will control, in addition to the investment portfolio, directly and indirectly, a fleet of seven PSVs, including two large PSVs 100% owned and five medium-sized PSVs with approximately 28% ownership interest, the company said.

Norway's west coast maritime cluster has again demonstrated its technological skills and business verve through the delivery of a complex, diesel-electric offshore support vessel equipped to carry out deepwater subsea inspection and construction tasks. Ordered from Aukra Industrier by local operator District Offshore (DOF), the 275-ft. (84-m) Skandi Carla ranks among the world's most sophisticated ships designed for ROV(remote-operated vehicle) deployment. The powerful, dynamic-positioning vessel entered an immediate five-year charter assignment to Aberdeen-based survey specialist Fugro-UDI, to whose requirements she has been customized.

Aker Brattvaag Signs Supplyship Contract

Skipsverft AS has signed a contract with Waveney Shipping Ltd for the building of a platform supply vessel. The contract is worth a total of around NOK 130 million. Brattvaag Skipsverft AS belongs to the Aker Brattvaag Group, which is 100 percent owned by Aker Yards. Rolls-Royce Marine will supply design and equipment worth approximately NOK 30 million.The hull will be built in Romania and the completed vessel is scheduled for delivery in April 2003.The contract with Brattvaag Skipsverft AS is for a platform supply vessel of the type UT 755 L, developed by Rolls-Royce Marine’s design division. IOS To Purchase of Platform Supply Vessel

P/R International Offshore Services ANS (IOS), which is a 50/50 joint venture between Farstad Shipping ASA and P & O Australia has entered into an agreement to purchase a platform supply vessel, design UT 755L, from Consensus Foss KS (Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskipsselskap). The vessel is under construction at Aker Brattvaag. IOS will formally take over the vessel immediately after delivery from the yard in December 2002. After the delivery of the above vessel IOS will operate a fleet of 17 vessels and have three vessels on order for delivery in 2003.

Aker Brattvaag Acquires Romanian Yard

Norway’s Aker Brattvaag AS, a unit of Aker RGI signed a contract with Romania's main privatization agency to acquire a majority stake in a local shipyard. A statement from the State Ownership Fund (FPS) said that under the contract, the FPS sold its 69.999 percent stake in Santierul Naval Tulcea in a deal worth some $22.6 million, including investments. Two-year investments, mainly in technology and environmental protection, represents some 60 percent of the value of the deal. Under the deal, Aker also assumes the shipyard's debts, mainly to banks and suppliers, of $12.1 million. Santierul Naval Tulcea, based in the Danube port town of Tulcea, has a share capital of $6 million.

Rolls-Royce Wins $150M Marine Contracts

Rolls-Royce has won ship design and equipment supply contracts for offshore service and cable-laying vessels, worth approximately $150 million over the last three months, including its biggest-ever commercial marine order. Dr. Saul Lanyado, President -- Marine, Rolls-Royce, said: "This is a significant step for Rolls-Royce. Development of the marine business is key to the future strategy of the group. These orders demonstrate a growing demand for specialist offshore vessels. The largest single order ever won by the commercial marine business of Rolls-Royce is from Aker Brattvaag, supplying ship designs and equipment for seven offshore service vessels, worth 33 million pounds.

Aker Yards to Build Platform Supply Vessels for The Great Eastern Shipping Co.

Aker Brattvaag, a company in the Aker Yards Group, has signed a contract with The Great Eastern Shipping Co, Mumbai, India, for the building of two Platform Supply Vessels. The contract is worth approximately NOK 230 million. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in June/July 2006 and August/September 2006, or 2007. The vessels have the designation UT 755 L, an extended version of the well-respected UT 755 design by Rolls-Royce, which will also be a major supplier of equipment to the project. Aker Yards has in total built 52 various versions of the UT 755 design and has another 8 on order. An identical vessel was delivered from Aker Brattvaag to The Great Eastern Shipping Co. in August this year, and three more vessels have earlier been delivered to the same owner by Aker Yards.

Aker Yards to Outfit One ROV Survey / Supply Vessel for Volstad Maritime AS

Aker Brattvaag, a company in the Aker Yards Group, has signed a contract with Volstad Maritime AS, Ålesund, Norway for outfitting of one ROV Survey / Supply Vessel at Aker Langsten. The contract is worth approximately NOK 300 million. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in June 2005 and the work will start before Christmas 2004. Peter Tennfjord, Senior Vice President at Aker Langsten says in a comment: "This contract implies that we avoid temporary lay-offs that were previously scheduled from December and into the first quarter of 2005. The vessel has the designation ST-253L, designed by Skipsteknisk AS in Ålesund. The vessel will be 92.5 meters long and 18 meters wide.

MAN B&W to Power MAERSK AHTS

MAN B&W Diesel A/S, Frederikshavn, Denmark has been awarded a contract to supply complete twin-screw twin-in/single-out medium speed propulsion packages for eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The newbuildings, which will be built by Aker Yards AS, Norway, were ordered by the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group’s Maersk Supply Service. The finalized vessels are expected to be delivered from Norway (from both Aker’s Brattvaag and Langsten shipyards) with two month intervals during 2008 and 2009. Aker Yards to build PSV for Olympic

Aker Yards signed a contract worth approximately $22.8 million with Olympic Shipping to build a Platform Supply Vessel of the MT 6009 design. Delivery is scheduled for December 2006. "We are pleased to have received another newbuilding order from Olympic Shipping," said Roy Reite, in charge of Aker Yards' Offshore & Specialized Vessels business area. "This contract confirms our long and good relationship with Olympic Shipping, which currently has two vessels under construction at our yards". Workboats: The World's Largest OSV

There are several large offshore service vessels working in the Gulf of Mexico, but none so big and powerful as the Laney Chouest. At 348 ft. long by 72 ft. wide with a 31-ft. deep hull, the Laney Chouest simply dwarfs anything in the Gulf. Built by Edison Chouest Offshore, Galliano, La. at their North American Shipbuilding facility, the vessel is already at work in the Gulf on a charter for Shell Offshore. "This vessel was designed and built for a very specific mission-to preset mooring systems in 10,000 ft. of water safely and efficiently," said Roger White, senior vice president of Edison Chouest Offshore. "The real market for this vessel will be in the 5,000-10,000 ft.
