Volvo Penta Powers Chicago Sightseeing Boat

The newest addition to the Shoreline Sightseeing fleet in Chicago is powered by a pair of D13 400 hp Volvo Penta engines. MV Skyview is Shoreline’s first vessel with Volvo Penta engines, and according to Captain Chris LeBlanc, senior captain and Shoreline manager, Skyview is burning less than three gallons per hour for both engines during sightseeing tours. Other comparable boats in the fleet consume more than 10 gph. LeBlanc said the boat is smoother to run, easier to control and provides excellent torque, even at low RPMs, for docking and maneuvering in the narrow Chicago River.

Blount Boats Delivers Chicago Tour Boat

Blount Boats of Warren, R.I. has delivered the M/V Skyview to Shoreline Sightseeing, marking the builder’s second delivery for the Chicago sightseeing company. With a LOA of 100 feet and maximum beam of 35 feet, the steel Subchapter K passenger vessel designed by Seacraft Design, LLC is certified to carry up to 318 passengers and will operate as an architectural tour boat in partially protected waters. The vessel is powered by twin Volvo D13 MH, 400hp diesels with twin 65 kW John Deere generators, ZF W325 gearboxes, 2.933:1 ratio supplied and commissioned by Allemand Industries, Harvey, LA.

Gulf Coast Workboat Repowered with Volvo Penta Diesels

Zimco Marine saved $40,000 per engine per boat in fuel costs after repowering two shrimp boats with twin Volvo Penta D13 engines.

Based on impressive fuel consumption and performance results from the Volvo Penta engines installed in a new-construction pushboat, the operator decided to repower one of its older vessels with the same D16 engine package. When Volvo Penta supplied the main propulsion system for the M/V Ted Kayser, a new 60-foot pushboat christened at the end of 2012, it was Allemand Industries, Inc., the Volvo Penta Regional Power Center in Harvey, LA, that oversaw the installation. Geo Shipyard Inc, New Iberia, La, delivered the R/V Apalachee, a 64x21x9’, aluminum catamaran for Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory, St Teresa, Florida. Designed by Fyffe Yachts with NC lofting by Eli Ring, VP of Advance Fabricating, both of Kemah, Texas, the 48 passenger T-boat will support a verity of research missions in the Gulf of Mexico. Designed by Fyffe Yachts with NC lofting by Eli Ring, VP of Advance Fabricating, both of Kemah, Texas, the 48 passenger T-boat will support various research functions in the Gulf of Mexico. Power for the new boat is supplied by a pair of John Deere 6135 SFM engines rated at 500 hp at 1900 rpm from Allemand Industries, Harvey, La. The six cylinder engines turn Twin Disc MGX-5114 SC gear boxes, Driveline Service of Portland shafts and ZF 36-inch diameter nybral four-blade propellers.
