Siemens Wins Order for Two Marine PSVs
Siemens Industr awarded a multimillion dollar contract by LEEVAC Shipyards, LLC to equip two newly constructed Aries Marine Corporation marine platform supply vessels (PSV) with its unique diesel electric propulsion solution at Leevac’s facilities in Jennings, La. “The demands placed on the onboard systems and technologies of today’s PSVs are high as these vessels are specialized and tailored based upon particular machine layouts, power requirements, automation processes, climatic conditions and more,” says David Grucza, marine business manager, Siemens Industry, Inc. The two 270 ft PSVs will be outfitted with Siemens Blue multi-drive, low-voltage system.
Leevac Wins Deal to Build PSV Pair for Aries Marine
Leevac Shipyards Jennings LLC, Jennings, La., signed contracts with Aries Marine, Inc of Lafayette, La., to build two LEEVAC Design Services “LDS” 270 DE PSV, a 270 x 56 x 21.5 ft. diesel electric Platform Supply Vessels (PSV). “We are very excited to have this opportunity to begin this partnership with a company like Aries Marine” said Christian Vaccari, President of LEEVAC. The LDS 270 DE PSV will have a deadweight capacity of 4000 LTsw and will carry more than 13,000 barrels of liquid mud. Each will be powered by four 3516C Caterpillar generators rated at 1825 kw each.
LEEVAC Launches PSV for Aries Marine
LEEVAC Shipyards Jennings, LLC launched the M/V Ram Nation, the first vessel of a new series of 4,000 DWT PSVs for Aries Marine Corporation, on Tuesday, March 18. The Ram Nation is scheduled to be delivered during the third quarter of this year. The Ram Nation is an LEEVAC-designed 270 ft., diesel-electric, DPS-2, FI FI 1 Platform Supply Vessel that will be certified for worldwide operations. Chris Vaccari, owner and CEO of Leevac, said the Ram Nation is the first of four LDS-designed vessels currently under construction.
Aries Marine Announces New Build Program
Court Ramsay, President and CEO of Lafayette, La. based Aries Marine Corporation, announced in a joint statement with Eastern Shipbuilding Group that a Letter of Intent has been signed to begin construction of two Tiger shark class PSVs. The first vessel will be named the M/V Dwight S. Ramsay after CFO/owner and founder of Aries Marine. The M/V Dwight S. Ramsay will be Eastern Shipbuilding and Aker Yards latest innovation in a high capacity, fuel efficient, environmentally friendly PSV design. Bollinger Re-Delivers Elsa Leigh To Aries Marine
Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., Lafayette, La. While it looks like a new vessel, Elsa Leigh is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper after an extensive renovation at Bollinger’s Morgan City shipyard. The new name is in honor of Elsa Leigh, the four year-old daughter of Courtney B. Ramsay, vice-president of Aries Marine. “This is the kind of project we love,” said Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger.
Aries Debuts a New Star
Aries Marine, a Lafayette, La. based offshore vessel company has taken delivery of its fourth 220-ft. class supply boat designed for deep water platform work. The company has 10 supply boats and 14 lift boats in its fleet. At 54 ft. wide, the new Abigail Claire is 10 ft. wider than any of its predecessors and is the first in the Aries Marine fleet rated at DP-2. Vessel depth is 19 ft. and loaded draft is 16 ft. The vessel was built by Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders at their Lockport, La. shipyard and designed by Entech & Associates of Houma, La. Thoma-Sea also has an option to build an additional 220-ft. class vessel for Aries. This option has been exercised and the vessel will be complete early next year with additional vessel construction for Aries likely.
Delivery: Bollinger Delivers the "New" Elsa Leigh
Bollinger Shipyards last month re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., of Lafayette, La., which is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper following extensive renovation at Bollinger's Morgan City shipyard. The new name is in honor of Elsa Leigh, the four year-old daughter of Courtney B. Ramsay, vice-president of Aries Marine. "This is the kind of project we love," said Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger. Much of the work involved mechanical systems in the hull and replacement of about 30 percent of the boat's steel. The vessel was brought up to ABS DPS 1, FiFi1 and GMDSS Area 3 certification. Her two main EMD engines were removed and rebuilt by NREC in Houma, La., who boosted their power from 1,250 hp each to 1,500 hp each.
First Containership Receives LR Cyber Notation
The newly built containership MV COSCO Shipping Aries, recently delivered to COSCO Shipping Lines, is the first ever containership to receive Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) cyber-enabled ship (CES) descriptive note “Cyber AL3 SECURE PERFORM” for its energy management system. The 20,000 TEU ship was built by Nantong COSCOS KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd (NACKS). “MV COSCO Shipping Aries is the first 20K TEU level ultra large containership built in Chinese shipyard owned by COSCO Shipping Container Lines.
Ocean Deck Barge Sold
Marcon International, Inc. announced the sale of the 5,000tdw ocean deck barge Mitkof Provider from Alaska Marine Lines of Seattle, Wash., to Island Tug and Barge Co., also of Seattle. The 280’ x 60’ x 17’ barge was originally built in 1969 by Todd Shipyard, Seattle, Wash. as the “Vanliner 280” and after converted and named “Foss 280” served first as the foundation of a 221 man camp for Prudhoe Bay operations in the Arctic and later housed personnel involved in the Exxon Oil Spill Cleanup.. She was sold by Foss in the early – mid’90’s to Alaska Marine Lines who eventually removed the modular housing units and installed a new 7’ high fence and concrete deck with steel “T” beams every 42” allowing the barge to trade as a conventional flat deck barge. LEEVAC Delivers 2nd PSV to Aries Marine
On April 8, 2015, LEEVAC Shipyards, LLC delivered the second of two LEEVAC-designed 270 ft., diesel-electric, DPS-2 FIFI I Offshore Support, ACC Platform Supply Vessels, the Ram Country to Aries Marine Corporation. The Ram Country, likes its sister ship, Ram Nation, was constructed at LEEVAC Shipyard Jennings, LLC and later transported to LEEVAC Shipyard Lake Charles, LLC facility for the vessel’s outfitting, commissioning, and testing. Construction of the Ram Country spanned approximately 21 months from the cutting of steel to delivery.
Tidewater Orders Two LEEVAC Platform Supply Vessels
LEEVAC Shipyards Jennings LLC, Jennings, LA, announced it has signed contracts with Tidewater Marine, LLC of New Orleans, LA to build two LEEVAC Design Services “LDS ” Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), a 300’ x 62’ x 24’ diesel electric PSV with options for two additional vessels. The LDS 300 DE PSV will have a deadweight capacity of 5400 LTs and will carry more than 17,600 barrels of liquid mud. It will be powered by four Caterpillar Model 3516C Tier 3 IMO II Marine variable speed diesel propulsion generator sets rated at 2100kw each.
Leevac Wins HOS Shipbuilding Contract
Leevac Shipyards Jennings LLC, of Jennings, LA, a subsidiary of Leevac Shipyards, LLC signed contracts with Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC, an affiliate of Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. (NYSE:HOS) of Covington, La., for the construction of two STX Marine SV 310 Multi-Purpose Supply Vessels; 302 x 76 x 26-ft,, 12,070 BHP diesel electric powered MPSV’s. “These will be the twenty-third and twenty-fourth vessels to be built by Leevac for Hornbeck” said Christian Vaccari, President and CEO of LEEVAC.

Diesel-Electric Propulsion for Offshore
Long reserved for specialized applications such as icebreakers, diesel electric has enjoyed a rapid growth for marine propulsion in the past decade. Throughout that period, Cummins Marine has been a leader, supplying more than 900 diesel electric packages since delivering its first genset 2003. Early adopters of this flexible propulsion technology included the US firm Rigdon Marine with twenty vessels and France-based Bourbon Offshore with over 100 vessels. In late 2011 Aries Marine built two STX-designed Tiger Shark Class PSVs.
Grandunion Controls Aries Maritime Transport
Aries Maritime Transport Limited (NASDAQ:RAMS) announced that Grandunion Inc., a company controlled by Michail S. Zolotas and Nicholas G. Fistes, acquired 18,977,778 newly issued common shares in Aries in exchange for three capesize drybulk carriers. Of such shares, 2,666,667 were transferred to Rocket Marine Inc., a company controlled by two former directors and principal shareholders in Aries, in exchange for Rocket and its affiliates entering into a voting agreement with Grandunion. Under this voting agreement, Grandunion controls the voting rights relating to the shares owned by Rocket and its affiliates. Grandunion now owns approximately 34.2% of Aries and, as a result of the voting agreement controls the vote of approximately 71% of Aries' outstanding shares.
Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers Second Tiger Shark Class Vessel
Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. announced the early delivery of the Sisuag, the second of three 292-foot Tiger Shark Class Offshore Support Vessels, to Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC of New Orleans, La. Launched in October, the Sisuag is a DP II, SOLAS-approved, FIFI 1 Classed, AC diesel-electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSV. This high-tech vessel features four Cummins QSK60-DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier II diesel generator engines, rated 1825 Kw at 1,800 rpm.
Aries Maritime Provides Update on the Bora
Aries Maritime Transport Limited announced that it expects to complete repairs to the Bora, a 2000-built double-hull products tanker, before the end of the second week of October 2006 at a total cost of approximately $1.3 million. Following the completion of repairs, Aries plans to initially employ the vessel in the spot market prior to securing a period charter. The Company's previous time charter arrangement with FR8 PTE has been voided with no claim on either party as a result of passing the cancellation date under the charter terms.
Aries Maritime Takes Delivery of Tanker
Aries Maritime Transport Limited announced it has taken delivery of the second of two new products tankers it acquired from the Stena Group. Upon delivery, the 72,750 dwt 2006-built double-hulled Panamax products tanker entered into a 2.5 year bareboat charter agreement with the Stena Group at a rate of $18,700 per day, which is equivalent to a time charter rate of approximately $24,500 per day. In addition, the bareboat charter with the Stena Group has a profit sharing component with a 30 percent share for Aries.
1,200HP Tug Aries Leased in Alaska
C & K Marine of Anchorage, Alaska has leased the 75' x 27' x 11' steel, twin screw tug "Aries" from Olympic Tug & Barge, Inc. of Seattle, Wash. The lease was arranged through the auspices of Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Wash. The "Aries" is a conventional Gulf Coast style tug, built in 1980 by LAD Companies in Gibson, Louisiana. The U.S. flag tug is powered by a pair of GM 16V92NA diesels producing a total of 1250 HP @ 1900 RPM, each turning a 60" x 56" 4-blade stainless steel prop through a Twin Disc 527 5.17:1 marine gear.
