Atlantic Towing PSVs Rescue Crew from Sinking Fishing Vessel

Two platform supply vessels (PSV) stationed in eastern Canada came to the rescue of a crew from a sinking fishing vessel off the coast of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, on Monday.Atlantic Towing said its PSVs Atlantic Griffon and Atlantic Shrike picked up a radio transmission from a nearby vessel stating the fishing boat Gypsy Mariner had lost power and was taking on water. Havyard Outsources Platform Supplier Work to Kleven

Damen Builds RoPax Ferry for Canada

The Damen 80-meter ice class RoPax ferry MV Veteran handover to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL) took place in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada on October 23, 2015. Launched earlier this year by Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania on March 27, the vessel will start services from Fogo Island and Change Islands before the end of November. MV Veteran was delivered from the shipyard on time and within budget. MV Veteran is the first of a two-vessel contract, with a design stemming from a Canadian-Danish partnership between Fleetway and Knud E. Hansen.

Keel laying Ceremony of Damen PSVs for Atlantic Towing

In a keel laying ceremony attended by key client representatives, Damen Shipyards Galaţimarked the start of construction of two Platform Supply Vessels – PSV 5000 – for Canadian maritime services provider Atlantic Towing. The 90-metre vessels are part of a multiple vessel order thatincludes three identical supply vessels and one designed specifically for inspection, repair and maintenance duties. Trojan Marinex announced that Damen Shipyards have selected the Trojan Marinex Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) system for a fleet of Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) it is building for Atlantic Towing Limited – a Canadian-owned marine transportation company. “It’s been an exciting year for us,” said Marv DeVries, president, Trojan Technologies. “Our entire product suite achieved IMO Type Approval in March, AMS acceptance in August, and we are on course for U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval.

The continued maturation of Offshore Service Vessel design is embodied in recent contracts and deliveries. Ulstein Verft subsea newbuild Island Performer was built for Island Offshore to be a flexible, RLWI/IMR vessel, destined to serve its first five years for FTO in the Gulf of Mexico. “The vessel is customized to suit the scope of work in the FTO contract, in which RLWI (Riser-less Light Well Intervention) and IMR (Inspection/Maintenance/Repair) are the main tasks. She is able to perform operations at depths down to 3,000m,” said Håvard Ulstein, Managing Director, Island Offshore.

Atlantic Towing Orders Ice Class Damen PSVs

Atlantic Towing (USA) has selected newly-designed, ice-strengthened PSV 5000 vessels from Damen Shipyards Group to meet its 10-year offshore support contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC). The vessels will operate in the sub-arctic waters of the Hibernia and Hebron oil fields, off Newfoundland and Labrador. ATL will take delivery of four PSV 5000 vessels, one of which will be equipped for inspection, repair and maintenance duties.

ATL Secures 10-Year OSV Contract for ExxonMobil

Jaya Delivers Vessel to Atlantic Towing

Offshore energy services provider, Jaya Holdings Limited, has delivered its second newbuild ice class anchor handling tug supply vessel to Canadian buyers, Atlantic Towing Limited. The 16,000-BHP vessel was delivered on February 7, 2014 in Singapore and was christened the Atlantic Merlin at a naming ceremony held earlier today. She was previously known as Jaya Sovereign until her delivery to Atlantic Towing. Atlantic Merlin is a sister ship of Atlantic Kestrel, which was delivered to Atlantic Towing in November 2012. Jaya Reports $46.1 Million Full Year Net Profit

Jaya Holdings Limited reported consolidated revenue of $201.8 million and net profit of $46.1 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2013. The group’s total revenue for the financial year under review was $201.8 million, 145% higher than the previous financial year. The increase in the group’s revenue was due to increased vessel sales and improved charter utilization. The Offshore Support Services (OSS) Division’s higher revenue for the financial year under review was due to improved utilization of 80% compared to 70% a year ago.

Offshore energy services provider Jaya Holdings Ltd. reached an agreement to sell a second new state-of-the-art anchor handling tug supply vessel Jaya Sovereign to Canadian buyers, Atlantic Towing Ltd. Atlantic Towing Expands Fleet

St. John’s NL - Atlantic Towing Limited (ATL), a global marine service provider based in Atlantic Canada, has announced the addition of the Atlantic Raven – a 14,400 hp UT 722 Offshore Supply Vessel. The Raven is the second offshore supply vessel to be added to the ATL fleet this year. The 75m x 18m vessel, with four diesel engines and an oil recovery system will further support ATL’s existing and future contracts for customers in the offshore exploration and production industry. “Our customer base is growing and this acquisition is part of our strategy to grow with them,” said Wayne Power, Vice President of Irving Transportation Services. The vessel will arrive in St. John’s Newfoundland on August 5th to begin work in the North Atlantic.

New Rolls-Royce OSV for Canada

Rolls-Royce has won an order to design and equip a UT 755LN offshore support vessel with an integrated power, propulsion and motion control system, for use in the Canadian oil and gas market. Atlantic Towing Limited (Canada) has entered a long term charter with the Canadian oil and gas company EnCana Corporation for the vessel which will be built at the Halifax Shipyard in Nova Scotia. It will operate in the Deep Panuk field off the Canadian east coast. In addition to the ship design, Rolls-Royce will deliver a fully integrated equipment system. This includes diesel engines, propellers, reduction gears, tunnel thrusters, azimuth thrusters, steering gear, rudders, switchboards, automation and controls and deck machinery. The total value of the Rolls-Royce contract is around $10.5m.

Atlantic Towing, Deep Panuke Project

Atlantic Towing is the successful bidder for EnCana Corporation’s offshore supply vessel services contract for the Deep Panuke Project. This award includes building a new state-of-the-art offshore supply vessel at the Halifax Shipyard. The building and commissioning of the new vessel will employ over 200 shipyard workers at the peak and provide 426,000 person hours of employment. The new contract will raise total employment levels at the shipyard to over 600 at peak. The building of the new ship will generate an estimated payroll of $20m and will result in about $14m in purchases of goods and services from approximately 50 Nova Scotia suppliers. Atlantic Towing will operate the new vessel on long term contract with EnCana.

Sale of Two Inland River Pushboats

Marcon International Inc. of Coupeville, Wash. announced the sale of two sister inland river pushboats Captain Jimmy and Captain from Hanover Towing Inc. of Wilmington, NC to McBride River Services LLC of Kentucky on private terms. The 900 bhp pushboats were originally built by Jeffboat Inc at Jeffersonville, Ind., in 1965,and were commissioned by Gulf Atlantic Towing Corporation. The pair were sold to Allied Towing in 1972 and Hanover purchased them in 1975. The 58.3 ft. registered length vessels are powered by twin Cummins KT1150M diesels driving two 60 x 50-in. 4-blade stainless steel blades. Immediately after closing the sale, both pushboats were mobilized from North Carolina to the Mid West region to commence a charter. Marcon acted as sole broker in the transaction.

Specialties Cornerstone of Canadian Market

The past decade was a tough one for the Canadian shipbuilding market. It was a decade that produced a decline of both employment and decline of newbuilds, many of which were contracted in the late 1980s still awaiting construction. This unfinished business was concentrated mostly on various military projects that had been thought out but were never actually followed through. It is estimated that by the time the 1990's came to a close that Canadian yards had experienced the worst decade since postwar times with total sales declining by about 50 percent since 1991. In addition, total employment in the industry has broken off by about 50 percent from 12,000 workers in 1990 to today's figure of 5,000.

East Isle Shipyard Secures $21 Million Contract

East Isle Shipyard, Prince Edward Island's largest shipbuilder, has secured a $21 million contract to construct two new tug boats for customers in the Dominican Republic as well as a third tug for Atlantic Towing, Limited. The new contract means employment for 120 shipyard workers. The shipyard had been idle since September of 2002 when a fourth tug for the Panama Canal Authority was completed.
