Stolt Tankers Expands Partnership with Marlink

Maritime connectivity and IT solutions provider Marlink said it has signed a new service agreement with Stolt Tankers, extending a partnership between the two companies that began in 2011.Under the new agreement, Marlink will provide Stolt Tankers’ fleet of 83 chemical and parcel tankers with a bandwidth upgrade, enabling even greater digitalization of its operations. The package includes version 5.0 of Marlink’s XChange communications management system, which will deliver greater efficiency in IT management processes as well as reinforced cyber security…

Inmarsat, Hyundai Sign Digitalization Pact

British satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat plc has signed a business cooperation agreement that allows Hyundai Global Service (HGS) to offer ship owners and managers a total care solution route to maritime digitalisation.South Korea's HGS was established in 2016 by parent group Hyundai Heavy Industries as a digital transformation solutions provider to optimise ship operations and performance.The ground-breaking agreement paves the way for a cooperation that will include the use of Fleet Xpress Dedicated Bandwidth Services by HGS to support its digital services for ship owners, plus recognition of HGS as an Inmarsat Certified Application Partner (CAP).The formal agreement has been announced after the completion of trials on board three ships over a three month period…

NAPA signs Up for Inmarsat’s IoT Service

Inmarsat and NAPA have signed an agreement to enable ship owners and ship managers to access and analyze real-time onboard data more efficiently through a dedicated application hosted on Inmarsat’s new Fleet Data IoT service.Developed by Inmarsat and Danelec Marine, and made commercially available earlier this year, Fleet Data collects data from onboard sensors, pre-processes that data, and uploads it to a central cloud-based database equipped with a dashboard and an Application Process Interface (API).NAPA will then use this data to offer services for vessel performance monitoring…

Inmarsat Names Global Xpress as VAR

Inmarsat the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has signed an agreement with Globecomm, appointing the specialised managed satellite services provider as a Value Added Reseller (VAR) for Global Xpress (GX), serving the Maritime market globally. The agreement completes Globecomm’s Global Xpress offering, having previously been appointed as a GX VAR for the Enterprise and Global Government markets. Global Xpress will be the first global Ka-band broadband satellite network providing very high bandwidth services to a range of land, maritime and aero terminals, delivered through a resilient, secure waveform which is optimised for mobility.

DOF Extends VSAT Contract with Marlink

DOF Group has renewed its VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services contract with Marlink for five more years, with options to further extend the services. Under the new contract announced at Nor-Shipping 2015, Marlink will provide customized VSAT services to 60 DOF owned offshore and subsea vessels, counting an additional eight vessels on the previous contract, including several imminent newbuilds. As an international group of companies, DOF owns and operates a modern fleet of supply and subsea vessels, offering a strong engineering capacity to service the global offshore energy market.

Harris Corp Awarded Huge Navy Satcom Contract

Florida-based Harris Corporation informs it has been awarded a US Navy potential US$133-Million broadband satellite communication terminal contract. Harris to deliver up to 120 high-data-rate terminals to support mission communications and morale of shipboard personnel. Terminals greatly enhance shipboard access to high-bandwidth services. Contract brings total potential value to more than $250 million of contract awards to Harris under the Navy’s Commercial Broadband Satellite Program.

Harris CapRock Fulfill Major Cruise Line Satcom Contract

Harris CapRock has completed fleet installation of its managed communications solutions onboard 33 Royal Caribbean Cruise vessels. Since the start of the project, the company has removed 48 legacy antennas, installed 86 new ones in ports all around the world and procured more than 59,000 individual components for the project. Harris CapRock has developed a new “card-less” crew-calling kiosk and voice platform which the Royal Caribbean crew has used to make more than three million calls totalling more than 24 million minutes to date. •    New systems significantly improve voice, video and data services. •    Solution includes 24/7 proactive monitoring and support from Harris CapRock’s global Customer Support Centers.

Inmarsat Awards GBP 6M Deal to Logica

Logica, the global solutions company, announced it has secured a GBP 6m contract to help develop future higher bandwidth satellite communications for global mobile satellite communications provider, Inmarsat Limited. This contract forms part of an over GBP 30 million programme with Thrane & Thrane, a leader in the market for satellite communications equipment, to build the satellite interface and other equipment that will allow Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (B-GAN) services due for launch during 2004 to be transmitted to and from terrestrial networks. Currently Inmarsat operates its Global Area Network (GAN) service which supports data speeds of up to 64 kbit/s, almost seven times faster than speeds offered by current GSM networks.
