RHIB Collision Leads to Big Fine
A Cardiff sailing club and its Chief Instructor has today been made to pay £67,000 in fines and costs after failing to take proper care of children attending one of their courses, the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said. The Chief Instructor, Nicholas Sawyer has also been given 180 hours of Community Service. Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club, trading as Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, and its Chief Instructor Nicholas Sawyer pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to charges relating to failures in their duty of care for children attending a residential course in October 2010. The four-day sail training event was attended by 24 girls aged between 10 and 14. On the evening of 27 October 2010, after a day’s training, the girls were taken ice skating.

International private maritime security company Sea Marshals Ltd. has expanded into new premises to cope with its growing workload, particularly in the Gulfs of Guinea and Aden. Sea Marshals marked its expansion with an open evening held at its new 4,500 square feet center of excellence for maritime security, alongside the Millennium Stadium, boasting excellent transport links on its doorstep and Cardiff Bay only minutes away. Aquabus Aims for Dubai Contract
Waterbuses signed by Welshmen could soon be ferrying the population of Dubai around. Aquabus Water Transport Solutions of Cardiff is competing to win the contract to replace many of the 300 vessels that are currently in service. A delegation of the Dubai Road & Traffic Authority's marine division visited the Welsh capital last month. They met co-founder Roger Meredith and First Minister Rhodri Morgan. The Aquabus team have been to Dubai twice this year to discuss the project. Aquabus was formed last year through the fusion of Cardiff Bay Cruises and Cardiff Baylink, specifically with the goal of winning the commission to design and construct waterbuses and water taxis for Dubai. Cardiff Baylink is already building a waterbus in Taffs Well for a soon-to-be-launched service in Cardiff Bay.
