Caterpillar Marine Launches Gen II Displays

Caterpillar Marine has unveiled its second-generation Cat Marine Displays (CMD) used for monitoring all engine platforms, supporting different vessel applications for professional maritime use.The three CMD variants—Cat CMD5 (5” display), CMD8 (8” display), and CMD13 (13.3” display)—designed to provide operators easy access to current operating data and alarms for engines. The new displays are type-approved and environmentally sealed to be waterproof for a wide range of temperature operations.

Svitzer Inks Global Services Deal with Caterpillar Marine

Gula Skrinet AB reached an agreement with Caterpillar Luxembourg Sarl to acquire Caterpillar Propulsion AB and its subsidiaries. The sale is expected to close on June 30, 2020. Caterpillar Propulsion AB, formerly Berg Propulsion AB, is a manufacturer of mechanically and electrically driven propulsion systems and marine controls for ships.The proposed acquisition includes Caterpillar Propulsion AB and its subsidiaries, including Caterpillar Propulsion Production AB, as well as Caterpillar Propulsion Pte. Ltd, its subsidiary Caterpillar Propulsion International Trading (Shanghai) Co.

Sanmar Launches First Tug with Cat AVD

Caterpillar Marine has announced the ceremonial launch of Sanmar’s new hydraulic hybrid tug,  BOĞAÇAY XXXVIII (38), completely equipped with a Cat Marine Advanced Variable Drive (AVD). The BOĞAÇAY 38 enters the industry as the world’s first AVD vessel. Ferry Stena Estrid Completes Sea Trials

Stena Line’s "next-generation" ferry Stena Estrid has arrived in Holyhead after completing sea trials and a five-week, 10,000 mile journey from China to the Irish Sea where she will begin service early next year on her inaugural route from Dublin to Holyhead.Designed by Deltamarin and constructed at the China Merchants Jinling Shipbuilding Weihai Shipyard in China, Stena Estrid is the first of Stena RoRo’s nine next-generation E-Flexer Ro-Pax vessels in a series which include five for Stena Line and several additional vessels that will be on long-term charter for other ferry operators.

Metal Shark Expands Into Peru

USA-based shipbuilder Metal Shark has announced its expansion into the country of Peru, with a new patrol boat order now in production, and a multiyear co-production agreement recently established with the state-operated Peruvian shipyard Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA-PERU SA).The first round of Peruvian Navy maritime interdiction vessels are now being built by Metal Shark in the United States. Turkey’s leading tug builder Sanmar Shipyards was selected by Caterpillar Marine to build the first tug to incorporate its hydraulic hybrid propulsion system. Construction is currently under way with delivery scheduled for October 2019. Eastern Delivers Two Towboats to Florida Marine Transporters

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. delivered the M/V CAPT. RICKY TORRES (Hull 194) on October 11, 2016, and the M/V CULLEN PASENTINE (Hull 195) on December 28, 2016; the 64th and the 65th 90’ Inland Towboat to Florida Marine Transporters, LLC of Mandeville, LA., continuing FMT’s ongoing new build program. It was in early 2015, when Florida Marine Transporters, LLC signed an additional towboat, bringing the total to sixty-five (65) vessels contracted over the last 10 years. Five of the most recent 90’ inland towboat deliveries to Florida Marine occurred over the past twelve months. The M/V CAPT. RICKY TORRES and the M/V CULLEN PASENTINE were constructed at Eastern’s Allanton Facility from a design furnished by Gilbert Associates, Inc. of Boston, MA.

Cat EPA Tier 4 Engines for McAllister Tug Duo

Horizon Shipbuilding is in the process of installing the first production EPA Tier 4 certified units of its 3516E EPA CAT Marine engines, on a pair of tugs it is building for McAllister Towing & Transportation Co., Inc. The pair of 100 foot azimuth stern-drive (ASD) escort and rescue tugs will each be powered by two CAT Marine 3516E EPA Tier 4 engines rated at 3,386bhp, supported by three CAT C7.1 EPA Tier 3 gensets rated at 118ekW and two CAT C18 EPA Tier 3 803bhp fire pump engines (Fi-Fi). The equipment was delivered to Horizon Shipbuilding by Cat Marine dealers Thompson Cat and Foley Cat. Engine Providers Power Operators' Profits

With an eye towards environmental compliance, operational efficiencies and the bottom line, the Marine News top propulsion providers touch all bases. Sitting down to select the best engine and propulsion manufacturers in the workboat marine space isn’t necessarily the easiest task in the world. Nor is it a linear exercise. First Cat Marine Hybrid Thruster Delivered

Engineering specialists at Caterpillar Marine’s new Marine Solutions Center are overseeing delivery of the first Cat Marine Hybrid Thruster system, being delivered this month to an undisclosed shipyard in Singapore and will be commissioned midyear. Caterpillar Marine said the new propulsion setup outperforms diesel mechanical systems in all partial load conditions, and offers improved fuel economy and substantial through-life savings for a variety of offshore support vessels (OSV).

Eastern Delivers 63rd Towboat for Florida Marine

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. delivered the M/V Lawrence Campbell (Hull 193) on April 12, 2016, the 63rd 90-foot inland towboat to Florida Marine Transporters, LLC of Mandeville, La., continuing its ongoing newbuild program. It was in early 2015, when Florida Marine Transporters, LLC signed an additional towboat, bringing the total to 65 vessels contracted over the last 10 years. Five of the most recent 90-foot inland towboat deliveries to Florida Marine occurred over the past 12 months.

In-hull Dual Fuel Engine Conversion an Industry First

To convert its vessel Coral Anthelia to dual fuel operation, Anthony Veder worked with Cat dealer Bolier to complete the industry’s first in-hull retrofit – saving considerable time and money in the process. The project saw the retrofit of a marine diesel engine to dual fuel operation in the hull of a ship without altering the vessel’s structure, limiting any onboard operations or requiring the ship to dock. Gas shipping company Anthony Veder partnered with a team of Dutch partners, including Cat dealer Bolier, to accomplish this industry-first feat – all within less than five weeks.

Caterpillar to Power 16 Korean Patrol Boats

Caterpillar Marine has announced Cat power solutions have been selected to power 16 new build Patrol Boats for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). Each Patrol Boat will be equipped with two Cat C32 main propulsion diesel engines and two Cat C9 ship service diesel generators. The first Patrol Boats will be constructed at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) shipyard in Korea. Cat dealer Hae In led the Caterpillar efforts on the project and will continue to manage the delivery and subsequent service of the Cat solutions.

Caterpillar Adds Azimuth Thrusters to Tug Package

A fresh range of azimuth thrusters will be featured in a newly integrated propulsion package from Caterpillar Propulsion targeting the tug market. The 60 metric ton bollard pull Cat Propulsion Marine Thruster Azimuth (MTA) is the first model in what will become a new family of rotatable units optimized for tug operations, with an initial unit expected to be delivered into a commercial trial by the end of 2015. The new MTA range has been tailored to optimize performance when working as part of an integrated propulsion train and will be made available through the extensive Cat dealer network.

Cat Debuts Bundled Repair Solution at Workboat

At the 2014 International Workboat Show, Caterpillar will launch a new product support campaign, unveiling the new Cat C18 Marine Bundled Repair Solution and commercial Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for all available existing Bundled Repair Solutions. The new Cat 18 bundled repair solution, which builds off of the Cat 3406 and Cat 3412 bundled repair solutions launched in 2013 as well as the Cat 3408 bundled repair solutions launched this year, is a customizable, comprehensive solution for customers looking to keep their vessels on the water longer. Customers can choose a top end or major foundational kit and customize it with the related components needed for their engine overhauls.

Caterpillar Launches Cat 3500 Gasket Kits

Caterpillar Marine is pleased to announce the launch of Cat 3500 marine diesel engine gasket kits for engine overhauls. Cat gaskets are a critical part within Cat diesel engines and are specifically engineered with specialized materials to reduce leaks and keep fluid within the engine. Recognizing varied customers’ needs for their particular application, the kits are arranged by serial number to provide customers with a simplified and expedited ordering process. The kits will be available to order from the global Cat dealer network by early 2015.

Caterpillar Marine announced the launch of the MaK M 25 E engine platform at the 2014 SMM Exhibition, held September 9 -12 in Hamburg, Germany. Developed for state-of-the-art vessel designs with an emphasis on fuel savings, the platform was specifically designed to address the evolving global marine industry requirements while maximizing operators’ bottom line. Key product features include optimized engine performance as well as an efficient part load range, which can help to save up to 40 tons of fuel a year when operating vessels at variable engine speed.

Cat to Power Ferries for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

Caterpillar Marine and Cat Dealer Pon Power announced the first Cat 3512C marine generator sets with Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) have been selected to power Assessoria Transporte Aquaviaro fast ferries for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 28 Cat generator sets will be installed on seven aluminum-hull fast ferries, with 14x Cat 3512 generator sets and 14x Cat 9 generator sets providing prime and auxiliary power. Each 3512 generator set will provide 1,550 eKW at 60 Hz of rated power.
