Sanmar Launches First Tug with Cat AVD

Ferry Stena Estrid Completes Sea Trials

Cat EPA Tier 4 Engines for McAllister Tug Duo
Horizon Shipbuilding is in the process of installing the first production EPA Tier 4 certified units of its 3516E EPA CAT Marine engines, on a pair of tugs it is building for McAllister Towing & Transportation Co., Inc. The pair of 100 foot azimuth stern-drive (ASD) escort and rescue tugs will each be powered by two CAT Marine 3516E EPA Tier 4 engines rated at 3,386bhp, supported by three CAT C7.1 EPA Tier 3 gensets rated at 118ekW and two CAT C18 EPA Tier 3 803bhp fire pump engines (Fi-Fi). First Cat Marine Hybrid Thruster Delivered
Engineering specialists at Caterpillar Marineâs new Marine Solutions Center are overseeing delivery of the first Cat Marine Hybrid Thruster system, being delivered this month to an undisclosed shipyard in Singapore and will be commissioned midyear. Caterpillar Marine said the new propulsion setup outperforms diesel mechanical systems in all partial load conditions, and offers improved fuel economy and substantial through-life savings for a variety of offshore support vessels (OSV).

In-hull Dual Fuel Engine Conversion an Industry First
To convert its vessel Coral Anthelia to dual fuel operation, Anthony Veder worked with Cat dealer Bolier to complete the industryâs first in-hull retrofit â saving considerable time and money in the process. The project saw the retrofit of a marine diesel engine to dual fuel operation in the hull of a ship without altering the vesselâs structure, limiting any onboard operations or requiring the ship to dock. Gas shipping company Anthony Veder partnered with a team of Dutch partners, including Cat dealer Bolier, to accomplish this industry-first feat â all within less than five weeks.
Caterpillar to Power 16 Korean Patrol Boats
Caterpillar Marine has announced Cat power solutions have been selected to power 16 new build Patrol Boats for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). Each Patrol Boat will be equipped with two Cat C32 main propulsion diesel engines and two Cat C9 ship service diesel generators. The first Patrol Boats will be constructed at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) shipyard in Korea. Cat dealer Hae In led the Caterpillar efforts on the project and will continue to manage the delivery and subsequent service of the Cat solutions.
Caterpillar Adds Azimuth Thrusters to Tug Package
A fresh range of azimuth thrusters will be featured in a newly integrated propulsion package from Caterpillar Propulsion targeting the tug market. The 60 metric ton bollard pull Cat Propulsion Marine Thruster Azimuth (MTA) is the first model in what will become a new family of rotatable units optimized for tug operations, with an initial unit expected to be delivered into a commercial trial by the end of 2015. The new MTA range has been tailored to optimize performance when working as part of an integrated propulsion train and will be made available through the extensive Cat dealer network.
Cat Debuts Bundled Repair Solution at Workboat
At the 2014 International Workboat Show, Caterpillar will launch a new product support campaign, unveiling the new Cat C18 Marine Bundled Repair Solution and commercial Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for all available existing Bundled Repair Solutions. The new Cat 18 bundled repair solution, which builds off of the Cat 3406 and Cat 3412 bundled repair solutions launched in 2013 as well as the Cat 3408 bundled repair solutions launched this year, is a customizable, comprehensive solution for customers looking to keep their vessels on the water longer. Customers can choose a top end or major foundational kit and customize it with the related components needed for their engine overhauls.
Caterpillar Launches Cat 3500 Gasket Kits
Caterpillar Marine is pleased to announce the launch of Cat 3500 marine diesel engine gasket kits for engine overhauls. Cat gaskets are a critical part within Cat diesel engines and are specifically engineered with specialized materials to reduce leaks and keep fluid within the engine. Cat to Power Ferries for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro
Caterpillar Marine and Cat Dealer Pon Power announced the first Cat 3512C marine generator sets with Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) have been selected to power Assessoria Transporte Aquaviaro fast ferries for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 28 Cat generator sets will be installed on seven aluminum-hull fast ferries, with 14x Cat 3512 generator sets and 14x Cat 9 generator sets providing prime and auxiliary power. Each 3512 generator set will provide 1,550 eKW at 60 Hz of rated power.
