Blount Delivers Vessels

The 165 x 45-ft. 300 ST Class cargo/passenger ferry, M/V Cayo Largo built by Blount Boats, Inc. for the Puerto Rico and Municipal Islands Maritime Authority was accepted for delivery to Fajardo, on July 23. The Cayo Largo will also deliver the 45x17-ft. M/V La Plena, also built by Blount Boats. Parajitos Port Reopens; Dos Bocas Remains Closed

Mexico's Pajaritos oil port reopened to shipping on Tuesday because of improved weather, but high seas kept the port of Dos Bocas closed for a second straight day, said authorities. Dos Bocas, which has been shuttered on and off for the better part of a week, was still closed on Tuesday morning as waves crested at between seven and nine feet, said the Transport Ministry. The port, located in southeastern Tabasco state, reported winds were at 18 miles per hour. Pajaritos, located in the Coatzacoalcos complex in eastern Veracruz state, Cayo Arcas port in southeastern Campeche state and Salina Cruz in southern Oaxaca state were all operating normally, the Ministry added. Dos Bocas, Pajaritos and Cayo Arcas, all located on the Gulf of Mexico side, handle the bulk of the nation's oil exports.

Two Mexican Oil Ports Reopen after Dolly Downgraded

Two of Mexico's three main oil exporting ports in the Gulf of Mexico, Dos Bocas and Cayo Arcas, were reopened on Wednesday after major storm Dolly was downgraded, the country's communications and transport ministry said in a statement. Dolly, which was previously a tropical storm, weakened to remnant status on Wednesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Mexico's third major oil hub, Coatzacoalcos, was never closed despite strong winds and rainfall associated with Dolly. The country's Tampico and Altamira ports, however, have been closed since Tuesday due to bad weather, the ministry added. Almost all of Mexico's crude oil exports are shipped to refineries on the Gulf Coast of the United States from the Dos Bocas, Coatzacoalcos and Cayo Arcas ports.

Cayo Largo Deployed to Assist Haitian Relief

Puerto Rico Maritime Transportation Authority (PRMTA) deployed the 300 passenger / 300 ton cargo vessel, M/V Cayo Largo to Barahona, Dominican Republic to assist in the humanitarian effort for Haiti. The vessel, which was designed and built by Blount Boats, Inc. of Warren, R.I., has been in service between the port of Fajardo on the east coast of Puerto Rico and the islands of Culebra and Vieques since her delivery in 2008. The vessel has an overall length of 162 ft, a beam of 46 ft, and draws less than eight ft of water loaded.

Tropical Storm Keith Forces Key Oil Ports To Close

Two of Mexico's key oil export ports were shut down on Wednesday as tropical depression Keith whipped up winds and waves in the Gulf of Mexico, though the effects on oil production were not immediately known, authorities said. The port of Dos Bocas in southeastern Tabasco state was closed as winds blew from 21 and 27 miles per hour and seas swelled at between eight and 10 ft., said the transport ministry in a statement. Cayo Arcas in neighboring Campeche state was also closed, though the transport ministry did not provide details on port conditions.

Bad Weather Closes 3 Major Mexican Oil Ports

Three of Mexico's major oil export ports along the Gulf coast have been closed due to bad weather, the Communications and Transport Ministry said on Tuesday.   Cayo Arcas, Dos Bocas and Coatzacoalcos have been closed since Sunday.   Nearly all of Mexico's crude exports from Pemex, the state-owned oil producer, are shipped from the three ports to Gulf coast refineries in the U.S. states of Texas and Louisiana.     (Reporting by Joanna Zuckerman Bernstein; Editing by Jeffrey Benkoe)

Heavy Winds, High Waves Close Mexican Ports

Mexico's Pajaritos oil export terminal and Dos Bocas port, which also handles oil tankers, were both closed to shipping, the Transport Ministry said in a routine report. Pajaritos, a Gulf port located in the Coatzacoalcos complex in the southern state of Veracruz, closed at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a port official. He said weather conditions on Wednesday included winds of 19-25 mph (30-40 km per hour), and 8-foot (2.5-meter) waves. Dos Bocas, also on the Gulf of Mexico in the southeastern state of Tabasco has been closed since 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, the port official added. Weather conditions at the port on Wednesday were waves of 10-12 ft. (3-3.5 meters), and winds of 25 mph (40 km per hour).

Mexico Closes Gulf Oil Port as Cold Front Sweeps In

Mexico's Gulf port of Coatzacoalcos in the state of Veracruz was closed on Friday due to 82 kilometer-per-hour winds spurred by a cold front, port authorities said in a Tweet on Friday.   Almost all of Mexican oil giant Pemex's crude exports are shipped from the ports of Dos Bocas, Cayo Arcas and Coatzacoalcos, en route to Gulf coast refineries in the U.S. states of Texas and Louisiana.   A powerful storm barreled toward Washington, D.C., on Friday, threatening to bury parts of the Middle Atlantic region under as much as 30 inches (76 cm) of snow and bring the nation's capital to a virtual standstill.     (Reporting by Anahi Rama; Editing by Simon Gardner)

Inclement Weather Closes Two Mexican Ports

Strong winds and choppy seas produced by a Gulf of Mexico cold front forced the closure of two of Mexico's main oil exporting ports on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. Pajaritos port, part of the Coatzacoalcos complex in eastern Veracruz state, was shuttered to oil tankers as waves crested at eight feet and winds blew at 30 to 33 miles per hour (50-55 km per hour), transportation officials said. The port of Dos Bocas, located in the southeastern state of Tabasco, was also closed but transportation officials did not provide conditions at the port. Mexico's two other ports - the Gulf port of Cayo Arcas in southeastern Campeche state and the Pacific facility of Salina Cruz in Oaxaca state - were both open on Tuesday afternoon.

Mexican Oil Facilities Reopen To Shipping Traffic

The Mexican oil export facility at Pajaritos in eastern Veracruz state reopened to shipping traffic early on Thursday and the nation's three other oil ports were operating normally, said port officials. Pajaritos, part of the Coatzacoalcos complex, reopened at 6 a.m. (1200 GMT) as weather conditions improved, said an official at the captain's office. Winds were around 3 miles per hour (5 km per hour) and waves were between two and three feet, he said. The Gulf ports of Dos Bocas in southeastern Tabasco state and Cayo Arcas in nearby Campeche state were also open to shipping, said officials at the captain's office in each port. Salina Cruz on the Pacific coast was operating normally, said port officials.

Two of Mexico's chief oil export ports were closed on Tuesday, Reuters reported, because of strong winds and waves in parts of the Gulf of Mexico, port officials said. The port of Dos Bocas, located in the southeastern state of Tabasco, was shuttered as seas crested at 10 ft. and winds gusted at between nine and 12 mph, said an official at the port captain's office. The Pajaritos terminal, part of the Coatzacoalcos complex in eastern Veracruz state, was also closed as waves hit 10 ft. and winds ranged from 21 to 27 mph, said a port official. The Gulf-side port of Cayo Arcas in southeastern Campeche state and the Pacific Port of Salina Cruz were operating normally, said port officials and the Transport Ministry.

Conrad Shipyard Delivers Ferry

Conrad Industries, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: CNRD.PK) announced the delivery of an aluminum passenger vessel for Puerto Rico Maritime Transportation Authority (PRMTA). The Cayo Blanco can carry 600 passengers on two decks. She measures 160 ft x 32 ft x 13 ft and the vessel route is from Fajardo to Vieques and Culebra in Puerto Rico. She is powered by four MTU 12V-4000 M60 main engines with MGX 6848 Twin Disc gears. The generators are John Deere and there is a 200 hp tunnel bow thruster. The delivery crew traveled from Morgan City to San Juan in five days and the vessel performed excellently.

Bristol to Oversee Two Ferry Newbuilds

Construction is progressing for the new Subchapter “K” passenger ferry vessels, M/V Isleño at Blount Boats, Inc. (BBI), Warren RI and M/V Caribeña at VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VTHMI), Pascagoula, MS. Bristol Harbor Marine Design (BHMD) is serving as a liaison for the Puerto Rico Ports Authority (PRPA), providing construction oversight for the vessels servicing the Fajardo-Vieques-Culebra Ferry Line. On July 15th, 2003, BBI signed a contract with the PRPA to construct a 155-ft. cargo/passenger ferry similar to a previous design by the yard. The construction of this vessel will be similar to the M/V Cayo Norte, built by Blount Marine in 1995. Four (4) MTU DD12V2000 engines coupled to 2.9:1 Twin Disc 5202 gears will provide 3220 BHP.

Pemex Boosts Crude Shipments to Japan

Mexico's state-run oil company Pemex will increase crude exports to Japan in the coming months after selling several spot cargoes to customers including Cosmo Oil, JX Holdings and TonenGeneral, according to a company source and Thomson Reuters trade flows data. Pemex typically sends around 1 million barrels per month of Maya crude to Cosmo Oil under a supply agreement, but the company recently negotiated additional deliveries, the source said. The cargoes of Maya and Isthmus crudes will arrive in Japan from May through June after loading at Mexico's Dos Bocas and Salina Cruz terminals, according to Thomson Reuters data. Mexico's crude exports have fallen in recent months amid declining oil output.

Mooney has rowed from the coast of Africa and will end his journey in New York City. The rower is honoring his brother who died of AIDS and to promote voluntary HIV testing.

Victor Mooney, of Queens, New York and his Brazilian built rowboat, The Spirit of Malabo, are about eight hundred miles from Miami. He must first get through Cuba. Mooney began his transatlantic row on February, 19 from the coast of Africa to honor his brother who died of AIDS in 1983 and to advocate voluntary HIV testing. This is Mooney’s fourth attempt at this feat and the furthest point he has reached. He has overcome eighty pound weight loss and a shark attack. Mooney broke his oars twice…

Another Ferry Chooses WESMAR Thrusters

WESMAR announced that another ferry, the MV Norcon Galatea, has installed WESMAR’s commercial bow thrusters. The 387-ton, 125-foot Ro-Ro Passenger Ferry, owned by Norcon Marine Services, Clarenville, Newfoundland, provides support for the provincial ferry fleet serving Bell Island and Portugal Cove, Newfoundland. The Galatea has capacity for 70 passengers and 20 cars. The 40-year-old Ferry was previously the MV Hamilton Sound and owned by the Provincial Government, but in 2011 they sold her, and after extensive upgrades by its new owner the Provincial Government leased her back.
