MES Gets First Order for ME-GI Marine Engine
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has received the first order of electronically controlled gas injection diesel engine (ME-GI) for MES. MAN B&W 8S70ME-C8.2-GI will be installed on two 2,400 TEU + 400 vehicles ConRo ships to be built by U.S. shipyard VT Halter Marine Inc. for U.S. owner Crowley Maritime Corporation. ME-GI is Diesel cycle dual fuel engine with high efficiency based on the principle of two-stroke low speed diesel engine and it can use both heavy oil and natural gas as fuel depending on relative price and availability, as well as environmental considerations.
MES Produced 3.83 Million BHP in 2012
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Said they produced 3.83 million horsepower (BHP) by 187 sets of Mitsui-MAN B&W Diesel Engine at its Tamano Woks, (Okayama Prefecture) for fiscal year 2012, while the production in the previous year was 4.31 million horsepower (BHP) by 220 sets. MES, since it first entered into technical agreement with B&W, Denmark (currently MAN Diesel & Turbo) for diesel engine manufacturing in 1926, has ever produced total accumulated engine output of 80,000,000 BHP as of November 2012 as a leading manufacturer of diesel engine.
