MAN to Supply Propulsion for World’s Largest Car Carriers

Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) has received an order for four MAN B&W 8S60ME-GI engines in connection with the building of four 10,800 CEU pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) for South Korean shipping owner, HMM Co. Ltd.CSIC Diesel Engine Co. WinGD to Deliver CMB.TECH Ammonia Engines

WinGD has concluded a four-party agreement underwriting Belgian bulk carrier operator CMB.TECH’s order of X72DF-A ammonia-fueled engines.CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding (QBS) and engine builder CSSC Engine Co (CSE) were the other signatories in the joint undertaking to power a series of 210,000dwt bulk carriers to be delivered from Qingdao through 2025 and 2026.Following confirmation of the engine order, the agreement advances the project between WinGD and CMB.TECH announced in January to develop the 72-bore ammonia-engine.

MAN Engine Ordered for World's First Methanol-fueled VLCC

China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), the Shanghai-listed shipping giant and daughter company of China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI), has ordered an MAN B&W 7G80ME-LGIM (-Liquid Gas Injection Methanol) main engine in connection with the construction of a very large crude carrier (VLCC). First PCTC Order Placed for a Methanol-Fueled Engine

China Merchants Heavy Industry has ordered two MAN B&W 7S60ME-LGIM (-Liquid Gas Injection Methanol) engines in connection with the construction of two 9,300 ceu (car equivalent units) PCTCs for China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES).The order is the first order globally for the S60ME-LGIM variant, the first methanol-fuelled engine for a PCTC, and the first Chinese-built methanol engine.Engine manufacturer, CSE, will construct the engines in China with respective vessel delivery set for 2025 and 2026; the order also contains an option for an additional four vessels.

Aker Solutions Revenues Up 8%

First LP-SCR System Successfully Completed in M/V Southern Pearl

The first commercial Low Pressure SCR system (LP-SCR)system from Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) has entered service onboard a major Singaporean container lines, PDL International’s 600TEU container vessel, M/V Southern Pearl.The system has supplied to a 6UEC33LSE-C2 engine, manufactured by J-ENG’s Chinese licensee, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. Aker Solutions Wins Services Contract with Petrobras

Petrobras has awarded Aker Solutions a contract to provide maintenance and modifications services for nine platforms at oil and gas fields in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.The Campos Basin extends approximately 100,000 square kilometers. The three-year contract is valued at more than BRL 250 million and includes an option for a two-year extension.Aker Solutions will be renovating, repairing and upgrading offshore production units for Petrobras' Campos Basin Operational Unit (UO-BC). Aker Solutions Signs Agreement with Petrobras

Norwegian oilfield services company Aker Solutions has won a contract to provide maintenance and modifications services for three platforms at Petrobras-operated oil and gas fields offshore Brazil. The four-year contract is valued at about NOK 800 million ($101.5 million) and includes an option for a one-year extension. The order covers a range of services to renovate, repair and upgrade the floating production storage and offloading platforms, or FPSOs, at the Barracuda, Caratinga and Albacora Leste fields in the Campos Basin. It also entails management at the yard where replacement parts and other equipment will be fabricated. "Brazil is an important global market and growth area for servicing oil and gas fields," said Aker Solutions Chief Executive Officer Luis Araujo.

New China-South East Asia Express (CSE) Service

Evergreen Line and Cosco Container Lines (COSCON) will launch a new joint service, the China South East Asia Express Service (CSE), expected to take effect from Shanghai on 26 July 2009. The service will operate with four 2,100 TEU vessels. Evergreen will deploy one vessel and three ships will be supplied by COSCON.   The port rotation is as follows: Shanghai - Dalian - Xingang - Qingdao - Ningbo - Manila (south) - Jakarta - Singapore - Tanjung Pelepas - Port Kelang - Shanghai. The company's spokesman said, "By working together, we hope to see significantly upgraded service coverage and more efficiently utilized capacity on the South East Asia market."

SAIC Wins Navy Contract

Algoma Grants Unique Contract To CSE

Algoma Central Marine has awarded a $5.5 million contract to Canadian Shipbuilding & Engineering for the conversion of a single-hulled tanker, 431 ft. (131.5 m) M.V. Algoeast, to double-hulled construction at its Port Weller Drydocks facility. The project, which is the first type of conversion ever to be done at a Canadian shipyard, will commence this December and expects to employ about 100 shipbuilders through the winter.

Ocean Tankers covers IPO, asks for extension

The Financial Mirror has reported that Ocean Tankers Holdings Pcl has covered its initial public offering but has requested an extension until November 8 in order to allow time to the CSE to open trading accounts for overseas investors, mainly Greek shipowners who are participating in the issue. Ocean Tankers offered a total of 3 mln shares during the IPO aiming to raise CYP 755.700 and according to confirmed reports has completed the issue at least one time. All the irrevocable applications have also been purchased by investors, mostly Greek shipowning groups. Shipbuilder CSE to Seek Funding

The Star has reported that Canadian Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd. (CSE) will seek government money, cut labour costs and restructure before resorting to a sales process if necessary, the monitor overseeing its bankruptcy protection said in court documents. CSE was formed 20 years ago by the merger of the shipbuilding and repair divisions of two of Canada's biggest private shipping companies, Canada Steamship Lines and what is now called Upper Lakes Group Inc. The CSL Group — owned by former Prime Minister Paul Martin until 2003 — sold its remaining interest in Canadian Shipbuilding & Engineering in November. Upper Lakes Group Inc. now owns more than two-thirds of CSE, which had 420 employees when all its operations were running.

Great Ship - CSL Niagara

M.V. CSL Niagara, which was delivered by Port Weller Dry Docks this past July, is the largest seaway capable vessel on the Great Lakes. The two self-unloader resulting was formulated by joining the aft end of M.V. J.W. McGiffin to a complete new forebody built and outfitted by PWDD. Beginning with the new forebody being floated out of the building dock, McGiffin was then docked and its old forebody was cut and floated off — the new forebody was re-docked and joined to McGiffin's stern shortly after. Taking advantage of new maximum seaway dimensions resulting in cargo lifts, the vessel was selected to celebrate strong links between Canada Steamship Lines and the Niagara Region.
