Damen Hosts Digital Steel-Cutting Ceremony

Damen Yichang Shipyard in China recently hosted a different kind of steel cutting ceremony for a RoPax Ferry 6716 being built for the Government of Timor-Leste.Ordinarily, Damen would invite its clients and guests to attend the celebratory event, but the occasion on April 27 was marked by a digital gathering due to safety measures surrounding the global COVID-19 outbreak.Damen sales manager Gysbert Boersma said, ā€œDuring the coronavirus crisis, our first priority is for peoplesā€™ safety and wellbeing.

AEG to Power Seabournā€™s Cruise Vessel

AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energy applications, informed that Fincantieri S.p.A. has selected its power systems solutions to secure all critical loads applications on board Seabourn Encore, an ultra-luxury cruise ship that Fincantieri will build for Seabourn, a brand of Carnival Corporation. A combination of AC (Protect 8 and Protect 4) UPS and DC (Protect TPR) systems will be delivered to Fincantieri in December this year. They will secure the electrical power supply for automation, ship digital communications, public address safety system, emergency diesel generator and low location lighting. Power supply is a critical part of security on board.

Rescue 21 System Accepted by U.S. Coast Guard

General Dynamics-built Rescue 21 Search and Rescue System - Sector Buffalo - Formally Accepted by the U.S. Coast Guard. The U.S. Coast Guard today formally accepted the General Dynamics C4 Systems-built Rescue 21 search and rescue communications system now serving Sector Buffalo, New York. The live-saving Rescue 21 system uses advanced direction-finding technologies and digital communications, enabling Coast Guard personnel to respond rapidly and efficiently to calls from distressed mariners out to at least 20 nautical miles from shore. It also enables greater effectiveness in responding to security and maritime environmental threats.

The Essberger Group, operating a fleet of35 vessels currently, is a diversified group with activities in t shipowning and shipmanagement, liner shipping and maritime related services. SeaWave Introduces SeaWave Navigator

SeaWave LLC released its newest maritime communications software, SeaWave Navigator Version 1.1. SeaWave Navigator is a low-cost, user-friendly communications solution, providing Internet e-mail, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) color weather charts, NOAA text weather forecasts, and other communication services to professional mariners. SeaWave Navigator is the software component of SeaWaveā€™s marine communications system, which utilizes high frequency (HF) radio technology to securely transmit digital data to vessels at sea. Eliminating the need for costly capital investment, SeaWave Navigator employs standard Single Sideband (SSB) hardware and does not require specialized and expensive equipment.
