Electronic Inclinometer for Tugboat Safety

Danish marine safety equipment manufacturer, Daniamant, has launched a tugboat version of its renowned Electronic Inclinometer, an advanced heel and pitch measuring device. The DanEI-300T fulfils the most recent Bureau Veritas Group’s regulations for escort tugboats and is approved by German BSH to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) performance standard MSC.363(92):2013. Bureau Veritas’ classification rules in the January 2019 edition stipulate that escort tugboats must be equipped with a calibrated heeling angle measurement system, otherwise referred to as an inclinometer.

HamiltonJet to Unveil New Waterjet and Controls

HamiltonJet plans to launch a new generation of waterjets and advanced control systems at the SEAWORK show in July 2018.The new generation waterjet named the HTX30 has undergone years of research, hydrodynamic design and testing delivering much stronger performance up to 570kW for use in patrol and commercial workboats up to 18m in overall length.According to the manufacturer, the HTX30 is capable of achieving higher vessel top speed, improved maneuvering response, higher static thrust and faster vessel acceleration. In addition, the waterjet’s integrated design allows for much improved mechanical durability, easier installation, improved corrosion protection and enhanced steering and reverse capability.The soon-to-be-unveiled advanced vessel control system is called AVX.

Radio Zeeland Introduces TITAN Line Navigation Displays

Test Ride: Furuno's New 15X8 Series Radar

Taking the Furuno 15X8 series radar out for a spin; Furuno’s newest entry has found a welcome place on inland waters. Furuno’s newest radar is now on the market. The first workboat installation of the company’s FAR-15X8 series was completed in late February and early March. Following installation, test runs were carried out on the Bruce M, a 65-foot, 1,900 Hp inland pushboat operated by SDS Lumber based out of Bingen, Wash. The vessel works the Columbia Snake River system, mainly pushing either construction or wood chip barges.

Transas VTMS for the Visakhapatnam Port

India’s Visakhapatnam Port has selected Transas as its VTMS provider. According to the project schedule, the new system will be fully operational by the end of 2015. The Visakhapatnam Port is located on the east coast of India between Chennai and Kolkata and has three main harbors. Being one of the most important hubs in South Asia, the Visakhapatnam Port is currently undergoing modernization and expansion. The VTMIS from Transas will be integrated with the Port Operation System (POS) and existing sensors including X-band Radar, six CCTV cameras and an AIS Base station.

MEDS: Get Connected & Protected

Late last year Radio Zeeland DMP launched MEDS, and advanced monitoring system that integrates laser sensors, day and night vision cameras and software to alert crew or authorities in a safety or security event. “MEDS (Maritime Early Detection System) is designed to be a security and a tracking product,” said David Leone, president, Radio Zeeland DMP. The proprietary core of the system is a laser sensor that transmits up to 82 meters at 190 degrees, designed to be used as a stand-alone or in concert with a web of sensors providing total coverage of a larger area.

Liebherr to Debut 5-Axle Mobile Crane

Liebherr will be showing its new 160-tonne mobile crane LTM 1160-5.2 at the Intermat 2015 in Paris, France. This crane on a five-axle chassis was presented to the public for the first time at the Conexpo Con/Agg 2014 exhibition in Las Vegas (USA). It is the successor to the LTM 1160-5.1. The load capacity of the new LTM 1160-5.2 has been increased by around 20-25 % compared to its predecessor whilst the telescopic boom has remained at the same length of 62 m. The vehicle width has been reduced from 3 m to 2.75 m. That means that not only it is easier to drive on public roads but also considerably better on constricted sites. The superstructure of the new LTM 1160-5.2 is powered by the engine in the crane chassis using a mechanical shaft.

The demand for effective solutions to monitor hydraulic and lubricant systems is constantly increasing. Oil condition – or the result of the natural aging of the substance, decomposition of additives and contamination by foreign particles – is therefore the significant factor in determining the optimal point in time for an oil change. Changing the fluid too early generates unnecessary costs; changing it too late increases wear within the system and can lead to component failures and therefore even higher costs.

Comark’s New Display Passes Shock Testing

New NMEA2000 AC Monitor from Offshore Systems

Offshore Systems has introduced an NMEA2000 AC Monitor to measure onboard AC voltage, current and frequency and report them over the vessel’s NMEA2000 network. The monitor is the latest addition to a range of vessel monitoring and control systems designed for the NMEA2000 network by Offshore Systems, and is certified to the NMEA2000 network standard. The AC Monitor can typically measure AC sources such as shore power, generators and invertors. It can also measure the voltage and frequency on AC Bus Bar Systems.

Tidewater Inc., a provider of Offshore Service Vessels to the global energy industry, has selected Furuno USA, Inc. as a primary supplier for their BNWAS (Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System) needs. New Actisense Engine Monitoring Unit

UK-based Actisense, using their knowledge of NMEA product designs, unveils its EMU-1 electronic engine monitoring unit. The demand for greater speed and the ability to share information across a greater volume of instruments led to the development of the newer NMEA 2000 standard which has been developed to supersede the NMEA 0183 serial data bus. This standard is able to connect various instruments along a single backbone, allowing one display unit to show many different types of information.

An X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) demonstrator aircraft recently taxied on flight deck of 'USS Harry S. Truman'. During the test phase, UCAS deck operators used an arm-mounted control display unit (CDU) to remotely control the aircraft. Gerrit Everson, one of the operators who controlled the X-47B, said the UCAS demonstrator displayed excellent integration with Truman's flight deck. "With the CDU, we followed the aircraft director's signals to move the aircraft left or right, over the arresting wire, to and from the catapults and to various spotting positions," said Everson. Lt. An X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) demonstrator loaded on board aircraft carrier 'USS Harry S. Truman' for test flying. The X-47B, which boasts a wingspan of more than 62 feet (wider than that of an F/A-18 Super Hornet), will demonstrate seamless integration into carrier flight deck operations through various tests. AIS: The Future is Now

The IMO deadline for fitting new ships with Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) is less than one year away. After July 1, 2002, all newbuilds over 300 grt must be equipped with an approved AIS transponder system. Leica Geosystems, one of the pioneering companies in AIS technology, recently published a 28-page book ("A Complete Guide to Automatic Identification Systems") that is loaded with useful information on AIS technology, how it works, international standards and carriage requirements. At the Norshipping exhibition in Oslo, Leica unveiled the first fully integrated GPS/DGPS/AIS shipboard system meeting all IMO, IEC and ITU equipment specifications.
