New COSCO Service Between UK, Europe, Russia
Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company COSCO Shipping Lines announced a new COSCO feeder service from St Petersburg, Russia will begin calling at DP World Southampton."COSCO is to introduce a new weekly call at DP World Southampton, as part of a rotation including St Petersburg, Russia; Kotka, Finland; Southampton, UK; and Rotterdam, Netherlands," said a press release.The news comes after COSCO confirmed in February that DP World Southampton will be a permanent call on its feeder service. The MV Alexander B operated by COSCO shipping, is scheduled to call at DP World Southampton on 27th March.âTraditionally it is the ports on the east coast of the UK that serve Russia and the Baltics.
DP World Orders Kalmar Straddle Carriers
The cargo-handling solutions provider Kalmar is to supply DP World with a total of 63 Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers for use at four of its European container terminals: 12 units will be delivered to GMP in Le Havre, France; 20 units to Eurofos in Marseille, France; 19 units to Antwerp Gateway in Belgium; and 12 units to DP World Southampton in the UK.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake, and the majority of the machines is expected to be delivered by the end of 2019, said Kalmar, part of Cargotec.Kalmar and DP World, one of the world's leading operators of marine and inland terminals, have developed a highly successful partnership over many years of working together.
DP World on Expansion Mode at Southampton

Kalmar, DP World Southampton Pact for Hybrid Straddle Carriers
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with DP World Southampton to supply 12 hybrid straddle carriers for use at their container terminal, said a press release.The Southampton agreement also includes maintenance and operator training as well as six months of on-site maintenance support. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled for Q2 of 2019. DP World Southampton is the UK port of choice for many global leaders in the container shipping industry. Thanks to its strategic location on the UK's south coast it is an ideal first or last port of call for container ships serving the Northern Europe-Far East trade routes.
DP World London Now Handles Far East Calls
MOL Triumph, the first of the worldâs largest and newest vessels to call in the UK, arrives in Southampton on THE Alliance's FE2 service as new third deep-water berth opened at London Gateway in April, ahead of first regular Asia-Europe service starting. DP World's UK terminals will welcome the first services from the Far East following a global shake-up of the worldâs shipping lines. Inaugural calls of Asia/Europe services by THE Alliance, a shipping consortium made up of Mitsui O.S.K Line, Yang Ming, NYK, K-Line and Hapag Lloyd/UASC, will see the largest vessel to ever call at a UK port berth at DP World Southampton this Thursday, May 11.
DP World to Offer Container Weighing Service
DP Worldâs British container terminals are to offer container weighing services for UK exporters to determine the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of each container ahead of new legislation coming into effect from the July 1, 2016. Both DP World London Gateway and DP World Southampton will âimplement scalable solutionsâ to weigh containers shortly after arrival in the port and provide the VGM, the company said in a statement, following extensive consultations with the Maritime Coastguard Agency. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has adopted an amendment to the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations to require that shippers of goods obtain the VGM of packed containers and communicate it to the ocean carriers sufficiently in advance of the ship stow planning.
ABP Port of Southampton Welcomes its Latest Record-Breaker
The biggest container ship in the world, the MSC Maya, made its maiden call at Southampton on Tuesday 15 December. The 395.4m vessel, which can carry a world-leading 19,224 containers, is just the latest giant container vessel to call at the port in recent weeks. As well as being the biggest, the vessel, which is named after Maya Aponte the four-year-old daughter of MSC President and CEO Diego Aponte, uses cutting-edge technology to make it one of the greenest vessels on the sea. She is the first of the four Oscar class vessels to call at the portâs container terminal. Her visit is just another record-breaking call for SCT5, the £110m new 500m berth at the container terminal, operated by DP World Southampton and opened by Olympic sailing legend Sir Ben Ainslie in March 2014.
DP World's Southampton Licence Extended
DP World Limited announces that it has agreed with Associated British Ports (ABP) to extend the license agreement for DP World Southampton for a further 25 years until 2047. DP World Now Sole Owner of Southampton Box Terminal
Dubai-listed ports operator DP World has became sole owner of the company which operates Southampton container terminal after it bought the remaining 49 percent stake held by Associated British Ports (ABP), the company said on Monday. DP World also said it extended the license agreement for DP World Southampton for another 25 years until 2047. The company did not disclose how much it paid for ABP's stake. Trelleborg Systems for DP World Southampton
Trelleborgâs marine systems operation has been awarded the contract to supply more than 70 UE1000 Unit Element fender systems to DP World Southampton. The new systems, taking the total supplied by Trelleborg to the Southampton container terminal to over 110, will allow the terminal to berth the latest ultra-large containerships. When the project is complete, Southampton will offer 1.87 kilometers of deep water quay, with up to 16 meters depth alongside. 16 quayside gantry cranes with super post panamax capacity will also enable berthing for vessels over 400 meters in length.

One of the conclusions of the Shippersâ Voice seminar discussing Portcentric Logistics Solutions at the Multimodal 2009 exhibition was that now maybe even the best time for shippers to reassess their logistics patterns and structure. Nick Lindsay, General Manager LM Logistics Group, told delegates that âthis is the time to think as far outside the box as you want and youâll find the solution.â His Felixstowe-based company, originally built on container haulage, is now offering direct small parcel deliveries into retailers as well as home delivery of furniture for customers. âThe name of the game is to find ways and means to cut costs,â said Vincent De Saedeleer, Vice President of the Port of Zeebrugge Authority.
