Golar LNG Bags New Long-term FSRU Contract

Golar LNG Partners announced that it has executed a 15-year charter with an energy and logistics company for the provision of an FSRU (floating storage and regasification unit) and related services in the Atlantic Basin. The charter provides the Partnership with the flexibility to nominate either the Golar Spirit or the Golar Freeze to service the contract provided that the nominated FSRU satisfies certain technical specifications ahead of project start-up, which is expected in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Information on USCG BWM Regulation

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has issued the rule with regard to obligation of installation of ballast water management system for the vessels engaged in U.S. waters. The rule is entitled as "Standards for Living Organisms in Ship's Ballast Water Discharged in U.S. Waters", Vol.77, Federal Register Reg.17254, on 23 March 2012 (Please refer to our Technical information TEC No.0903). New vessels (those constructed on or after December 1, 2013) must install by the "first scheduled drydocking" after 1 January 2014 or 1 January 2016 as applicable. Baltimore Marine Industries Awarded Various Contracts

Baltimore Marine Industries (BMI) has been granted several new contracts for ship work, including one valued at more than $2 million for the drydocking and maintenance of USNS Butte, an ammunition ship from the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift command fleet. An agreement worth more than $500,000 for the drydocking and maintenance of Carnival Cruise Line's MS Imagination will also be performed by BMI, as well as a $3 million deal for the drydocking and overhaul of USNS Kanawha, a Military Sealift Command fleet oiler, which will arrive at the Yard on November 5. Princess Cruise Lines' MS Royal Princess is due in at the Yard on November 6 to undergo $1 million worth of drydocking and maintenance.

Star Bulk to Change Accounting Policy for Drydocking Costs

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. announced that starting with its fiscal first quarter ended March 31, 2008, it has elected to change its policy for accounting for vessel drydocking costs from the deferral method, under which the company deferred and amortized its drydocking costs over the estimated period of benefit between drydockings, to the direct expense method, under which the company expenses all drydocking costs as incurred. There have been no drydocking costs that the company has incurred prior to the first quarter of 2008, therefore, there will be no impact on the Company's prior financial statements as a result of the adoption of this change in policy.

Ryba Marine Awards Drydock Work to Great Lakes Shipyard

Great Lakes Shipyard was awarded a drydocking contract for Ryba Marine Dump Scow GL-5 (170’ x 41’ x 15’) and GL-6 (170’ x 41’ x 15’) and Tug Thomas R. Morrish.   The maintenance and repairs that include drydocking and major steel repairs will be completed by May 2016, the shipyard said.   Most recently, Great Lakes Shipyard completed a drydocking contract for Ryba Marine Tug Kathy Lynn  in in April and October 2015 as well as Barge OBE185 in April 2015. Ryba Marine is a regular customer of Great Lakes Shipyard.

Detyens Completes First Drydocking For Celebrity

Celebrity Cruise Lines has completed its first ever drydocking with Detyens Shipyards, Inc (DSI). ZENITH docked at the Charleston, South Carolina facility from October 24, 2005 thru November 3, 2005. The scope of work included: regular drydocking maintenance along with sea valve renewals, blade seals and polishing, anchor chains, bow and stern thruster seals, overhauling of the bow thruster, the dismantling and overhauling of the stabilizers, the application of the silicon base AF coatings, the demolition and installation of a new hot well and a new shaft and bushings for the port rudder fin.

USNS Able Exits A&P Tyne

A&P Tyne has completed, within budget and on schedule, the drydocking of a US Navy vessel this summer. The USNS Able - an Ocean Surveillance Vessel - arrived in Tyne on July 26 and was drydocked for 17 days in No. 4 dock at A&P's Wallsend shipyard. Various repair operations were carried out during the drydocking period including rudder repairs, underwater steel renewal and propeller blade polishing. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) and ABS attended the ship during the drydocking to carry out regulatory inspections. "The quality of workmanship and project control was of an excellent standard and the A&P Group will certainly be recommended to both the US Navy and my own company Maersk (A P Moller) for any future work".

Permanent Rudder Repairs, No Drydocking

Hydrex has developed a new method enabling permanent repairs of rudders without drydocking the ship. The newly designed equipment is lightweight and can be mobilized very rapidly in our special flight containers. Major defects on rudders very often cause unscheduled drydocking of ships. The new method designed by Hydrex’s technical department allows engineers, welders and inspectors to perform their tasks in dry conditions. Class approved permanent repairs in-situ, without moving the ship, are now possible and commercial operations can continue.

GLS Wins Multi-Vessel USACE Contract

Great Lakes Shipyard has been awarded a contract by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Detroit District for the drydocking and repairs of the Floating Plant, based at the Detroit Field Station. The shipyard will perform routine drydocking, maintenance and repairs of the Tug DEMOLEN, Crane Barge VELER, and Deck Scow BC-6576. In addition to drydocking the vessels, work includes underwater hull cleaning and maintenance; inspection of propulsion and steering systems; sea valves maintenance; bearing inspections; and other routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs.

Great Lakes Shipyard Awarded Ferry Repair Contract

Great Lakes Shipyard has been awarded a drydocking contract for Miller Boat Line’s M/V Put-In-Bay. The ferry was hauled out using the 770-ton capacity Marine Travelift at Great Lakes Shipyard. The repair contract includes drydocking, inspection and repairs, hull cleaning and miscellaneous fabrication and steel repairs. This is the first drydocking for M/V Put-In-Bay at Great Lakes Shipyard since Spring 2010, when Great Lakes Shipyard completed reconstruction work including fabrication and installation of a 40-foot mid-body extension and main engine repowering.

Kelleys Island Ferry at Great Lakes Shipyard

Great Lakes Shipyard was awarded a drydocking contract by Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line for the M/V Carlee Emily. Maintenance work includes five-year drydocking, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) inspection and surveys as well as miscellaneous routine repairs. The ferry was hauled out using the 770-MT Mobile Marine Travelift on April 10, 2017. Work is expected to be completed later this month, allowing the ferry to return to service as soon as possible. This is the second time that the Carlee Emily was drydocked at Great Lakes Shipyard and the fifth drydocking for Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line.

Great Lakes Shipyard Secures Geo Gradel Contract

Great Lakes Shipyard was awarded a contract for drydocking and repairs by Geo Gradel & Co. for Tug JOHN FRANCIS on January 18, 2017. The tugboat was hauled out using the 770-MT Mobile Marine Travelift on January 19, 2017. Geo Gradel & Co. also awarded a contract to the Shipyard for drydocking and repairs for Hopper Barge Mobro 2000 on December 14, 2016. This contract includes significant metal repairs due to due to damages caused during the season. Work for both vessels is expected to be completed March 2017.

Cruise Vessel Drydocked at Great Lakes Shipyard

Great Lakes Shipyard has been awarded a contract for routine drydocking of the M/V Nautica Queen. The cruise vessel was hauled out using the 770-ton capacity Marine Travelift at Great Lakes Shipyard on Monday, November 10, 2014. The repair contract includes drydocking, USCG inspection and repairs, hull cleaning and painting, as well as miscellaneous steel repairs. The Nautica Queen offers cruises along Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio providing views of historic architecture and the ever-changing skyline of Downtown Cleveland.

Dockmaster's Training Seminar Offered

Heger Dry Dock will present its four-day Dockmaster's Training Seminar during May 2000 in Seattle, Wash. Held from May 2-5, the course will provide the latest information on dry docks, and drydocking techniques to dockmasters, marine engineers, naval architects and others involved in the docking vessels. Topics for discussion throughout the course will include dry dock accidents, types of docks, ship characteristics important to drydocking and docking procedures.

Navy Cruiser Arrives At Bender For Repair Work

Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co. signed a contract for the drydocking and repair of USS Yorktown. The Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser, which was built at Ingalls in 1982 has a workscope of standard drydocking items and shaft repairs. The vessel arrived at Bender on November 12, where it will remain until December 1.

NASSCO Granted Drydocking Of USS Mobile Bay

NASSCO has received a contract valued at up to $23 million for the eight-month extended drydocking and repair availability of USS Mobile Bay - an Aegis guided missile cruiser equipped with vertical launch missile systems - which is changing homeports from Yokosuka, Japan to San Diego, Calif. On September 1, the U.S. Navy awarded NASSCO a $1 million contract to commence the advance planning for Mobile Bay's maintenance, repair and alteration work package. Actual work on the vessel is scheduled to begin in November for a June 2001 completion. The work, which is expected to reach a value of $23 million, encompasses drydocking, plus alterations to convert the cruiser to all-electric auxiliaries and to install the Navy "Smart Ship" electronic control and automation systems.

New Drydocking Solution from WSS

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) announced the launch of a new service for the ship repair market. The offer aims to streamline drydocking operations by allowing customers to take advantage of integrated ships agency, safety and equipment services from a single source. Paul Rogers, WSS Commercial Director for North East Asia, says the service has been developed to create added value in the dry docking process by enabling owners to take advantage of trusted business relationships during drydock planning and execution.

ABS Approves Hyundai Heavy's FPSO Hull Design

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has received an Approval in Principle (AIP) for its floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) hull design from classification society ABS. “As the offshore industry strives to design more cost-effective production units, ABS remains committed to evaluating novel designs that meet our class standards,” says ABS Executive Vice President, Global Offshore Ken Richardson. “The Newbuilding Conversion FPSO hull design can be built for about half the cost as compared to a conventional FPSO hull…

Bender Shipbuilding Awarded Contract on Navy Frigate

Congressman Sonny Callahan announced that Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Inc. recently signed a contract for the drydocking and repair of the USS Stephan W. Groves (FFG 29). The Groves is an Oliver Hazard Perry Class Guided Missile Frigate homeported in Pacagoula, Miss. The vessel’s overhaul is being managed by the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair in Pascagoula for the Department of the Navy. The Groves will arrive at Bender on July 31 for a drydocking scheduled in early August and completion in mid-November. The work package includes drydocking, hull, machinery, electrical, electronics and piping repairs with a contract value of $8 million plus optional items which could result in an additional $1.5 million. The job will require 125 workers.

Colombo Dockyard Busy with Tanker Repairs

Kirsten, SCI owned LPG “Nanga Parbat” and Mercator, India owned MT.“Harsha Prem”,Sanmar owned MT. “Sanmar Majesty” and Fuel Supplies, Male owned MT. “Hibaru” were undergoing repairs in the yard Jan-Feb. Colombo has been attracting many types of callers, Tanker owner/ managers have been regular visitors who take advantage of the excellent facilities available for tanker owners in this region. This is quite a unique occasion where the yard is handling five significantly sophisticated tankers with extensive work scopes, simultaneously.

Interesting Drydock Ops in Mexico

A novel drydocking operation has commenced in Mexico, following the successful loading of the 11,220 tonnes semi-submersible rig Mata Redonda on the main deck of Zhong Ren 3, the world’s largest semi-submersible barge. Rotterdam-based ocean towage and heavy transportation specialists Fairmount Marine won the contract for the drydocking, using the 50,000 dwt Zhong Ren 3 as the platform. Fairmount President Henk van den Berg says: “The loading of Mata Redonda was performed in complete safety at a position some six miles off Tampico, Mexico. A project team from Tampico’s Bosnar Yard is now busy on the rig’s programme of maintenance and associated works, which is expected to take around 60 days. “This is the first deployment of Zhong Ren 3 as a drydocking platform.
