Techcross HYCHLOR 2.0 BWMS Earns USCG Type Approval

Techcross announced its filterless HYCHLOR 2.0 ballast water management system (BWMS) obtained type approval from the U.S. Coast Guard at the end of January 2024.Techcross' HYCHLOR 2.0 is an updated version of the company's  HYCHLOR 1.0 system, which received USCG type approval in 2020. Notably, the filter had been eliminated in the HYCHLOR 2.0 system.BMWS filters, which play a role in initially filtering out sediment in seawater, have been a source of many AS service issues due to clogging or maintenance troubles.While the absence of filters may raise concerns about disinfection capability…

The state of Texas is putting into service a fleet of new, highly capable patrol boats as it works to detect, disrupt and deter criminal activity along the Rio Grande."Now, more than ever, it is imperative that our law enforcement officers and Texas National Guard soldiers adopt innovative solutions," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said during a recent visit tour the state’s enhanced assets along the U.S.-Mexico border. Kongsberg Maritime Launches DTS System for Rudders

Kongsberg Maritime has launched the Direct Trunk Support (DTS) system for rudders. Vittoria Shipyard's Interceptor 43' at Seafuture

Vittoria Shipyard, which specializes in the construction of paramilitary, commercial and passenger vessels of up to 100 meters, will in 2016 take part for the first time in Seafuture & Maritime Technologies, which is to be held at the Military Arsenal in La Spezia from May 24-27, 2016. The shipyard from Adria will present its Interceptor 43’, which will be moored at the Pagliari dock, and will be on show to visitors for the duration of the show. The new vessel is based on the standards of Customs and Border Protection of the U.S.

VSD Releases Antenna Control Unit Replacement Kit

VSD, LLC has augmented its AL-7204 Television Direct-to-Sailors (TV-DTS) system by issuing the new AL-7204-CONT4 Antenna Control Unit Replacement Kit. The kit replaces the obsolete Antenna Control Unit, and includes new Servo Driver and Inertial Measurement units. It uses two of the three existing control cables and can be installed easily by the ship’s crew. The TV-DTS system is a means by which satellite television is delivered to naval ships.

Wärtsilä Reduces Manufacturing Footprint

Wärtsilä has analysed its manufacturing footprint as announced in October. To adjust to the fundamental changes in the market Wärtsilä plans to reduce its manufacturing capacity. Wärtsilä also plans to move the majority of its propeller production and auxiliary engine production to China, close to the main marine markets. The current propeller manufacturing in Drunen, and the component manufacturing DTS in Zwolle, both in The Netherlands, are planned to be closed. The Wärtsilä 20 generating set production in Vaasa Finland is planned to be closed and moved to China in order to stay competitive in this market. In the course of 2010 Wärtsilä plans to reduce approximately 1,400 jobs globally within the Group. Of these reductions 570 are planned to be in the Netherlands.

Mercury MerCruiser has developed the next generation of big-block marine power – a new engine that produces more power and has better mid-range acceleration, lower emissions and superior fuel efficiency. Mercury MerCruiser engineers in Stillwater, Okla. – drawing on the expertise of the development teams at Mercury Racing – conceived, designed and engineered the new engine with support from Mercury engineers in Fond du Lac, Wis. The next-generation, naturally aspirated big block features high-performance aluminum cylinder heads that improve mid-range acceleration and increase power. High-octane fuel is not required – the engine runs on 87 octane and achieves remarkably low oil consumption.

Hornblower to Offer New Ferry Service in Honolulu

Hornblower Marine Services announced a new option for Honolulu commuters- “TheBoat.” Beginning September 17, Hornblower Marine Services (HMS) will operate passenger-only ferry service between Oahu’s leeward side to downtown Honolulu. The commuter ferry is an extension of Honolulu’s transit service, TheBus. HMS’s subsidiary, HMS-Pac Nav, Inc. of Bainbridge Island, Washington, has undertaken this demonstration project in cooperation with The Department of Transportation Services (DTS) for the City and County of Honolulu. The new ferry service will operate in conjunction with the Oahu Transit Services group (TheBus) who will provide dedicated shuttle service to and from the ferry terminals.
