Scotland's Seafood Exporters Dealt New Post-Brexit Blow

The post-Brexit woes facing Scotland’s fishing industry deepened on Saturday as its biggest logistics provider, DFDS Scotland, said it would halt exports to the European Union through one of its main services until at least Wednesday.Previously, the company had said it would take until Monday to resume its “groupage” export service - which allows exporters to ship multiple products in a single consignment - while it tries to fix IT issues, paperwork errors and a backlog of goods.The…

Public-Private Project Promises to Revive America’s Marine Highway

APH engineer incorporates patent-pending aspects allowing the LNG powered self-propelled self-docking vessels to travel without a wake. The radical technology being incorporated in the vessel design allows the loaded vessels to operate at a draught of less than 10 feet.

Plaquemines and American Patriot Holdings plan new container port-vessel system. Plans are underway for a new 4,200-acre intermodal container terminal within the Port of Plaquemines Harbor and Terminal District. GACtrack Upgrade for Ship Agency Customers

GAC announced a new add-on to its GACtrack, aiming to give more job transparency and greater job control to ship agency customers. As well as being able to view job information from multiple offices on one screen, customers can check costs and export service information; view (and query if necessary) vessel line-up information; see updates on job status, including estimated timings of arrivals, departures and services to be provided and advise changes to services where required. Details can be viewed by clicking the ‘Jobs’ screen, which contains information about the supplier, the person who requested the service and a remarks section. Services provided are listed with estimated and actual costs, in real time, ensuring no surprises when the final bill arrives.

Hapag-Lloyd Boosts Direct EAX Service Between Europe and Australia

German liner company Hapag-Lloyd has further improved the Europe Australia Express service (EAX), one of its prime products. New port calls in Fos sur Mer and Pointe de Galets / Short transit times from Europe to Australia unchanged / Italian port switched to Salerno on Northbound leg. According to a media statement from the company, as of December, the French ports Fos sur Mer and Pointe de Galets (La Réunion) will be added to the EAX rotation on the Southbound leg. Furthermore, the Italian call on the Northbound leg will be switched from Genoa to Salerno. With this step, Hapag-Lloyd will improve direct port coverage in Southern Italy while at the same time maintaining good coverage of Northern Italy via other Hapag-Lloyd services and a good train connection.

CaroTrans Launches US-Japan LCL Export Service

Global non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) and ocean freight consolidator CaroTrans announced a new weekly less than container load (LCL) service from Atlanta to major markets in Japan including: Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Nagoya and Osaka. This service eliminates transshipment and double handling in Los Angeles and Busan. Freight moves from Atlanta to Tokyo in 29 days, Yokohama in 30 days, and Osaka, Nagoya and Kobe in 33 days. In Japan, CaroTrans’ partner of 16 years, Seino Logix, provides secure unpack and expedited distribution throughout Japan. CaroTrans Launches Direct Le Havre to Houston

Strategic European hub location offers fastest transits from France to U.S. Gulf. CaroTrans announced a new, weekly LCL export service from Le Havre, France to Houston which will commence April 5. This direct service shortens shipping time by 5-11 days for freight moving from France to the U.S. Gulf region including: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Laredo Austin, New Orleans, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, as well as Los Angeles on the West Coast. CaroTrans, MOLAX LINE Partner for U.S.-Northern Asia Service

CaroTrans, a global NVOCC (non-vessel operating common carrier) and ocean freight consolidator, announced a new cooperation with MOLAX LINE, an independent NVO in South Korea, which the companies say will create a stronger, more robust LCL service network in the transpacific trade. The CaroTrans-MOLAX alliance will offer secure, local service for import and export cargo moving between the U.S. and Northern Asia. CaroTrans has an extensive North American network of 14 branch offices and 24 CFS (container freight stations). The Port was among the 2013 honorees recognized for export sales or service during an “E” Award ceremony at the U.S Department of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C. “I am delighted to be recognizing this year’s Presidential ‘E’ Award winners for their outstanding contributions to U.S. exports and congratulate the Port of Los Angles on its outstanding export achievement,” said U.S. Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank, who presented the award.

Direct Service from Jacksonville to Asia

To provide East Coast customers an all-water option to Asia, MOL will soon offer the only direct transpacific export service from Jacksonville, Florida (JAXPORT), via the Panama Canal, to key Asian ports as part of its NYX service. CMA CGM (America) Promotes Di Caprio

CMA CGM (America) LLC announced that Michael Di Caprio has been promoted to District Sales Manager. In his new role, Di Caprio will be responsible for overseeing sales in northern Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Michael joined CMA CGM in 1999, and has held progressively responsible positions in the organization’s export service delivery and commercial teams. Most recently, he held the position of Export Trade Manager, where he was responsible for improving cargo profitability for the company’s transpacific West Coast services.

Finnlines Shares Plunge On Profit Warning

Shares in Finnish shipping company Finnlines plunged on Wednesday after it said 2000 profit would be worse than expected due to tough competition, higher oil prices and strikes hindering business. On Wednesday shares were trading down 12.5 percent at 23.99 euros, under-performing already soft Helsinki shares. In February Finnlines posted a 1999 profit before extraordinary items of 67.3 million euros ($64.46 million) and said the outlook for 2000 was uncertain due to factors such as tighter competition and a drop in import volumes. A strong imbalance exists between exports and imports of unitized cargo in Finland. Since the company has wished to maintain its export service at the level requested by its customers, no measures have so far been taken to reduce cargo capacity.

EX-IM Bank, Marad Agreement to Facilitate Shipping

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) and the Maritime Administration (MARAD) signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a program to provide Ex-Im Bank-guaranteed working capital loans for shipping, logistics and other companies involved in ocean freight transportation. The agreement also updates certain shipping requirements for Ex-Im Bank transactions. Under the agreement, Ex-Im Bank can provide working capital loans to export service providers, enabling them to extend credit terms to their export clients. The Bank will also increase its working capital guarantee from 90 percent to 95 percent for U.S. companies that ship on U.S. flag vessels. Ex-Im Bank and MARAD also agreed to raise the minimum threshold for Ex-Im Bank-guaranteed U.S.
