Austal Philippines launched Hull 419, a 109 meter high-speed catamaran ferry being built for Fjord Line or Norway at Austal's Balamban shipyard in Cebu.The vehicle-passenger ferry, to be known as FSTR, is the largest aluminium vessel ever launched in the Philippines – and the largest by volume ever built by Austal. It is scheduled to be delivered in the 2nd quarter of CY2020.“This new ship for Fjord Line of Norway is the first of many large, high-speed commercial ferries to be constructed at our newly expanded shipyard in the Philippines," said Austal CEO David Singleton.

The Nordic energy company Gasum said its LNG bunkering vessel Coralius has successfully performed its 200th ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation.The vessel receiving the LNG fuel was Fjord Line’s MS Stavangerfjord. The bunkering took place while Stavangerfjord underwent periodical maintenance at the Fayard yard in Odense, Denmark.“We normally supply LNG to Stavangerfjord by a loading arm on a regular basis directly from our LNG plant in Risavika,” said Gunnar Helmen, Sales Manager at Gasum.“It’s great to get this opportunity to supply the cruise ferry with LNG in dock in Denmark. Austal Limited's Philippines shipyard delivered a 50-mcatamaran to Taiwanese Brave Line in what is the company’s first commercial contract in the East Asian country.The catamaran is the first of two 550 passenger Austal-designed vessels being constructed at the company’s Philippines shipyard in Balamban, Cebu. Austal Limited has delivered a 30-meter high-speed aluminum catamaran for VS Grand Ferries of the Philippines. The vessel was designed by Incat Crowther and built at Austal’s shipyard in Balamban, Cebu.The new vessel, named MV Seacat, provides capacity for 300 passengers at speeds up to 25 knots. The new ferry is first locally operated vessel to be built to achieve Pioneer status, an enhanced safety standard rating in the Philippines, with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).Austal said it secured the A$5.5millon contract to build the vessel in August 2017…

Austal Limited confirmed a new contract valued at 73 million Euro to design and build a 109 meter high-speed vehicle passenger ferry for Fjord Line of Norway. The all-aluminium catamaran, designed by Austal Australia, will be the eighth large high-speed commercial ferry (over 100 meters in length) to be built by the company. “This valuable export contract will create outstanding opportunities for our design, production and project management teams here in Australia,” said Austal Chief Executive Officer, David Singleton. The high-speed commercial ferry will transport 1,200 passengers at up to 40 knots and features the company’s largest ever vehicle-carrying capacity; with a beam of 30.5 meters enabling 404 cars to be carried across two decks.

Skangas announced that the first ever bunkering station for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Nordics is open and operating successfully. The new bunkering station fuels Fjord Line’s cruise ferries, which are the first - and largest - in the world to use "single fueled LNG engines," meaning that they are powered exclusively by LNG. Loading arm is a well-known method of transferring cargo for large oil and LNG terminals. According to Skangas, this is the first loading arm ever developed purely for bunkering. LNG ships have normally been bunkered via hose connections from a truck or a tank. Widely recognized as a safer transfer method, a loading arm can provide a much higher rate of transfer.

Fjord Line's liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered newbuildings have claimed a new title as the 'world's cleanest ferries'. The Bergensfjord and Stavangerford have won the respective first and second places on the World Ports Climate Environmental Ship Index (ESI), which measures the emissions of over 3000 ships. The LNG-fuelled ferries are both powered by four Rolls-Royce BV12PG gas engines that drive highly efficient Rolls-Royce PROMAS integrated rudder and propellers. Of the 3194 ships currently on the ESI list, Bergensfjord scored 93.9 points followed by sister vessel Stavangerfjord with 93.5. Only 50 vessels had a score higher than 49. Fjord Line’s Technical and Nautical Director, Morten Larsen said Rolls Royce’s engines were responsible for the high position on the list.

Liquiline says it has entered into a contract with Fjord Line to design, construct and commission an LNG ship bunkering terminal for Fjord Line AS at the Port of Hirtshals, Denmark. The terminal will be constructed at the Port of Hirtshals, where Fjord Line operates a daily service with one of its two LNG-fuelled cruise ferries MS Stavangerfjord and MS Bergensfjord. This will be the first LNG ship bunkering terminal in Denmark. The ship bunkering terminal will be of Liquiline-design, a LiquiStation® Bulk ST2FF type. The terminal will have an on-site storage tank with a gross volume of 500m3 and a bunkering solution having a bunkering capacity of upto 400m3 of LNG per hour.

On June 4, 2013, STX Finland and the Norwegian passenger ship company Fjord Line AS signed a contract on conversion of Fjord Line’s cruise ferry. The steel production for the conversion project began January 10, 2013. In connection with the rebuild of MS Bergensfjord, the ship was renamed MS Oslofjord. The overall value of the conversion contract was approximately EUR 30 million, and it provided some 200 man-years of labor. MS Oslofjord is 134 meters long and 24 meters wide, built in Norway in 1993.

With their new ferries Fjord Line is the first ferry operator using RFID technology for their cabin locks, setting a new world record, the company reported. They are also the first ferry operator to serve their passengers with contactless RFID boarding control. Carus have taken full project responsibility for providing the software, the handheld RFID scanners and the implementation of the solution that enables Fjord Line passengers to board and disembark using contactless RFID cards.

Rolls-Royce congratulated the Norwegian Ship Owner and Ferry operator Fjord Line on the environmental efficiency award presented to the two passenger ferries Stavangerfjord and Bergensfjord during the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Oslo. The two ferries will be the first international service passenger ferries in the world to run on pure LNG engines. Both vessels are equipped with LNG based power and propulsion systems delivered by Rolls-Royce. This includes four Bergen gas engines for each vessel, powering a highly efficient Promas integrated rudder and propeller propulsion system.

Cargotec supplies MacGregor floating terminals for water taxis to Norwegian municipalities and a hydraulically operated MacGregor vehicle shore ramp to Grenland Havn. The Norwegian municipalities of Vikna, Leka and Nærøy are jointly  procuring four MacGregor floating terminals for water taxis, each comprising a pontoon and shore walkway. Passengers will be able to access a water taxi at all states of tide without needing to negotiate steps. All of the terminals are due to be opened for service on 17th May 2012 Grenland Havn is upgrading the port in Langesund to accommodate the new vessels which are being built for Fjord Line service between Norway and Denmark. Cargotec has been assigned delivery of a hydraulically operated vehicle shore ramp, which is 27m wide by 14m long.

Rolls-Royce signed a contract with ship owner Fjord Line A/S to install LNG based power and propulsion systems in two cruise ferries being built at the Bergen Group Fosen AS yard in Norway. Each vessel will be equipped with four gas engines, powering a highly efficient Promas integrated rudder and propeller propulsion system. The gas-only fuelled engines will reduce Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions by about 90 percent while Sulphur Oxide (SOx) and particulates emissions will be negligible.
