Aberdeen's James Hutton Institute Hosts Green Hydrogen Tech Start-Up sHYp

Green hydrogen technology start-up sHYp has moved into offices and laboratory space at The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen with plans to expand to five staff on site by summer.The move gives sHYp access to the institute’s specialist analytical equipment and expertise. Ultra Deep Solution Signs 5-Year Charter for DSCV Andy Warhol

Ultra Deep Solution has gone into a 5 year contract to Charter out the UDS DSCV Andy Warhol announced Shel Hutton,  CEO of the company in his Facebook post. The Warhol is an DNV-GL 18 men Saturation system with Twin 18 men SPHL’s and integrated Air Diving system. It comes with FiFi 3 and full oil recovery system. This vessel has 150 t AHC crane to 3000 msw. Again she is a MT design 6023 from Norway. Also the ship has Kongsberg DP system with Schottel propulsion system. Their will be WROV’s built in from FMC/Schilling. The vessel comes with an offset moon pool for Divers over 55 yrs of age to reach the platform job location easily. Its primary area of work will be Middle East, Indian and Far East. Delivery will be Q4 2018 Singapore.

Semi-submersible Crane Vessel Hermod Retired

Heerema Marine Contractors said its semi-submersible crane vessel Hermod will retire at the end of this year after nearly 40 years of operational performance. Designed and constructed in the 1970s, Hermod and sister vessel Balder were the first semi-submersible crane vessels of their kind in the offshore construction industry. The semi-submersible concept was developed with the aim to extend the operability in the harsh North Sea environment and furthermore to deliver superior lifting capacity.

Navies Training to Fight off the Western Australian Coast

More than 17 ships and aircraft are descending on the Western Australian coast for one of the largest maritime warfare exercises held by the Royal Australian Navy. The inaugural Exercise OCEAN EXPLORER will include some international participants, adding the opportunity to practice war fighting with language, customs and technology differences. The Spanish Armada’s ESPS Cristobal Colon, as well as New Zealand’s HMNZ Ships Te Kaha and Endeavour and, for a brief period, Italian frigate ITS Caribiniere will all integrate into the Australian scenarios. Exercise Director Captain Jim Hutton said the activity aimed to train ships to work together in a series of complex and dynamic warfare scenarios.

Marin Teknikk Design for Ultra Deep Offshore’s DSCV Newbuilds

Marin Teknikk has entered into a contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group for delivery of Design & Engineering of two Diving & Construction vessels for Ultra Deep Offshore Ltd. in Singapore. The vessels are a newly developed MT6023 DSCV design, and will be equipped with an 18 men diving system for operations down to 300 m water depth. MT6023 DSCV is an advanced Diving- and Construction vessel developed for demanding operations worldwide. The vessel will have a length of 103 meters and a breadth of 23 meters, top class accommodation for 120 persons plus 18 divers, two heave compensated subsea cranes, one 150 ton offshore crane with depth capability to 3000 m water depth, and one 20 ton offshore crane for operation down to 300 m water depth.

Ultra Deep Group (UDS) signed another contract with China Merchants Heavy Industry to build a Ultra Deep Installer – Multipurpose Diving Support Construction Vessel. Even though the oil market remains in the doldrums, Singapore-based UDS is powering ahead with tis strategic plan to spearhead the development and operation of efficient, cost-effective diving and support vessels in the oil and gas industry, plancing an order for its proprietary design “Red Class 6027” MT design DSCV with a Chinese shipbuilder.

Road Show Scouts Female Submariners

Capt. Rod Hutton, deputy commander for the Enlisted Women in Submarines Task Force, led the Enlisted Women in Submarines Road Show to different military bases in the San Diego area Feb. 9-11. The road show is spreading the word that the submarine force is now open to female enlisted Sailors from E-1 to E-8. Speakers discussed how junior female Sailors could convert to rates in the submarine force and the type of candidates the force is seeking. In addition, they provided an insight of the lifestyle aboard submarines. "Up until 21 January all the enlisted billets in the submarine force were previously closed to women," said Hutton. Currently, more than 60 female officers are serving throughout the Navy's 76 submarines.

Hutton's Opens Equatorial Guinea Supply Base

As part of its continued supply network growth in West Africa, Hutton’s Group has opened a new facility in Equatorial Guinea to boost its supply chain in the region. Operating as part of Hutton’s Remote Site Services, the new base in Luba Freeport will enhance the successful supply solutions already being delivered by Hutton’s West Africa depots in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Hutton's Group Strengthens Aberdeen Ship Service Team

Leading ship supplier Hutton’s Group says it has strengthened its Aberdeen logistics team with the appointment of a new Branch Manager, Kirstene Wilson, who starts work at the firm’s Sinclair Road depot, having completed a week’s induction training at Hutton’s head office in Hull. Bottled Water Sales to Shippers on the Rise

Hutton’s Group, a ship supplier in the U.K., reported sales of bottled water are up 30% on last year’s figures. The Hull-based supplier to the international shipping industry said it sold almost 40,000 large bottles of still water and nearly 20,000 small bottles this January alone, with sales of sparkling water (particularly popular with eastern European customers) growing too. Industry Forum to Offer Decommissioning Course

Decommissioning industry body Decom North Sea (DNS) is launching a new training course to give an overview of the sector. With decommissioning spend forecast to be around £1 billion a year for decades to come and the government recently announcing changes to bring more stability to the sector, increased employee numbers will be needed to maximize the opportunities on offer to the supply chain. Port Restrictions and High Barge Charges: Causing Costs to Spiral

Port delivery restrictions to ships are forcing ship suppliers to use barges for the supply of ship stores – resulting in hundreds of pounds of increased logistic costs, warns the UK’s leading ships chandler Hutton’s. Restrictions are enforced for a number of reasons, including security, safety and weight limits. Meanwhile barge costs are rising with the charges becoming prohibitive at some ports. Hutton’s warns the problem is an issue worldwide and especially prevalent on continental Europe where barge supply has become commonplace.

GSI Completes Two Major Oil and Gas Contracts

Gulfstream Services Inc. (GSI), provider of equipment to the international oil and gas industry, has successfully completed two six figure decommissioning contracts with oil and gas service companies, Helix Well Ops U.K. and Dof Subsea. The Helix contract was part of the BP North West Hutton decommissioning project where GSI tools were used to remove 10- and 20-inch pipelines from the seabed. GSI’s Hydraulic Shear was an effective engineering solution in the situation due to the quick boat to boat times.

Spudding of Exploration Well on Darwin

Fairfield Energy, a North Sea-focused independent oil and gas company,  announced that the first well of a three well campaign in the Darwin area spudded on 23 October. The well is being drilled from the Ocean Nomad and is operated by Fairfield. The Darwin area includes the southern end of Block 211/27a (previously known as the NW Hutton field) together with an extension into Block 211/27e and lies approximately 130 km northeast of the Shetland Islands in the Northern North Sea.
