Wärtsilä Scrubbers for RoPax Newbuilds

Wärtsilä won a new agreement for its exhaust gas cleaning systems to be installed on two newbuild 218m RoRo passenger vessels (RoPax) at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China.Signed in February 2022, the contract calls for Wärtsilä to fit and commission two 25-MWV-SOx hybrid scrubber systems, which can run in both open and closed loop configurations, on each vessel. With the systems, RoPax vessels will immediately comply with the 0.5% Global SulfurCap and will also be futureproofed against impending regulatory change…

Langh Tech Researches Ways to Reduce CO2 Emissions Using SOx Scrubbers

In view of the upcoming CO2 emission regulations, Langh Tech has started researching the possibility of carbon capture on board vessels. The Finnish company said first tests have been successfully performed on board one of the vessels in sister company Langh Ship’s fleet, utilizing the existing Langh Tech hybrid scrubber installed on board.Langh Tech revealed Thursday it has conducted several preliminary tests of capturing CO2 emitted by a vessel’s main engine by the means of using an existing Langh Tech closed loop SOx scrubber system.

Valmet to Supply Scrubbers for Mitsubishi-built Ferries

Finland-based Valmet said it has booked an order with Japan's Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Shimonoseki Shipyard to deliver hybrid scrubber systems and water treatment units to two ferries. Each vessel will be equipped with two identical Valmet Marine Scrubber towers for each main engine and a water treatment unit as well as Valmet’s marine automation system. The order value was not disclosed. The vessels will be delivered from Mitsubishi Shimonoseki shipyard to Meimon Taiyo Ferry Co., Ltd.

DNV GL Nod to Sea Sentry Wash Water Monitor

Chelsea Technologies, a leader in the design and manufacture of sensors for the maritime sector, and a Sonardyne company, has announced that its Sea Sentry wash water monitoring system for ship exhaust gas cleaning systems has been awarded type approval by DNV-GL. This accreditation, combined with certification for its measurement protocols from Class NK and DNV-GL, assures shipowners and operators that all available measures have been taken to verify that Sea Sentry provides accurate and robust data on compliance with IMO Annex VI wash water discharge regulations.

Valmet to Supply Scrubber Systems to DSME

Finnish technology company Valmet Oyj will supply exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber system) for seven new building container vessels, which will be built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) for Korean Shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).The developer and supplier of technologies, automation systems and services  said in a press release that the building container vessels are the largest in the world, over 23,000 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) each. The scrubber system deliveries will start in 2019.The scrubber system order was included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2018 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.Valmet has a long track record in supplying scrubber systems to different vessels types.

Newport Shipping Buys 100 Scrubbers

Wärtsilä Tallies $197 Mln Scrubber Deal

A major European container shipping company has ordered Wärtsilä’s hybrid exhaust gas cleaning equipment and retrofit services to its container vessels, worth EUR 170 million ($197 million).Wärtsilä Services will deliver 50 MW, 60 MW and 70 MW Wärtsilä hybrid scrubber systems which will be retrofitted to its container vessels. Three container vessels on order at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China for Eimskip Island ehf and Royal Arctic Line A/S will be equipped with Langh Tech hybrid scrubber systems and water treatment systems for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The newbuilds are of a new energy-efficient design developed by Deltamarin. The in-line scrubbers are multi-inlet installations, where the main engine and auxiliary engines are connected to the same scrubber tower. In addition, the MAN Diesel & Turbo two-stroke main engines of the newbuildings are equipped with EGR systems.

Wärtsilä Powers the World's Largest Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean International's Harmony of the Seas, featuring Wärtsilä engines, propulsion equipment, exhaust scrubber systems, Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum navigation and dynamic positioning systems, as well as Wärtsilä CCTV systems and various electrical & automation solutions, is now in commercial operation. The 'Harmony of the Seas' has also been included in a service agreement between Wärtsilä and Royal Caribbean covering technical management and monitoring under Wärtsilä Genius services. The ship was delivered from the yard on May 12.

Wärtsilä Hybrid Scrubbers for 3 Box Ships

Wärtsilä has received an order for Hybrid Scrubber Systems to clean the exhaust emissions from three 2,500 TEU container vessels. The installation has been ordered by a major European owner and operator and will be carried out at the Jinhai Heavy Industry Co., Ltd in China. The contract was signed in March 2015 and the systems are scheduled for delivery in December 2015. The scrubber system, which comprises two scrubber units, will be installed to clean the exhaust from both the main and auxiliary engines. This arrangement enables great flexibility and cost savings when operating at different operational settings. In all, 28 MW of total power output will be handled by the Wärtsilä system. The system is designed to clean the sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulates from the exhaust gas.

Wärtsilä Awarded TT-Line Exhaust Gas Cleaning Retrofit

Wärtsilä has been contracted by German-Swedish ferry operator TT-Line to retrofit an exhaust gas cleaning system to its Ro-Pax vessel, the M/S Robin Hood as part of TT-Line's Green Ship strategy.
