South Korea to Slash Passenger Vessel Emissions with ABB

ABB will install Port of Incheon’s first shore-to-ship power solution, enabling passenger vessels to cut emissions, noise and vibrations at berthABB has secured the contract covering South Korea’s commitment to sustainable shore-to-ship power, after a pilot scheme for passenger ships to plug into the local grid received the go ahead from Incheon Port Authority (IPA).In addition to a new $160 million ferry terminal opened in April 2019, Port of Incheon inaugurated South Korea’s largest cruise terminal in June this year.

Port of Incheon Volume Crosses 3 mln TEU

The Container Handing Volume by the Republic of Korea's  Port of Incheon surpassed 3 million TEU that it has processed over 1 year. Incheon Port’s 3 million TEU is a record achieved in 12 years after achieving 1 million TEU (2005) and in 4 years after achieving 2 million TEU (2013) and based on the 2016 performance, it is the best performance and accomplishment in history, putting it in 47th place out of the global container ports. Such container volume was handled with 49 sea routes. 49 sea routes is almost two folds from 2005 when Incheon Port Authority (IPA) was established with 26 sea routes, signifying that the services provided by Incheon Port has become diversified and the network has expanded, ultimately leading to the increase in the container volume.

Port of Incheon Volume to Reach 3.08 million TEU in 2017

The Container Handing Volume by the Republic of Korea's  Port of Incheon is expected to reach 3.08 million TEU in 2017, said a company release. On August 3, the Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced that its container handling volume for the second half of the year would be 1.61 million TEU, totaling 3.08 million TEU for 2017. According to the ‘Analysis of 2017 Container Volume for the First Half and Estimation for the Second Half’ performed by the IPA based on the performances during the first half and current trends, it is expected to reach up to 3.08 million TEU, 14.9% increase from the prior year. Recently, the Port of Incheon has revealed continued increase in trading volume.

IPA Opens New Container Route

Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced that a regular container route ‘Thailand-Vietnam Services (TVX)’ launched by five shipping companies – Namsung Shipping, Dongjin Shipping, Pan Continental Shipping, Pan Ocean and CK Line – was newly opened. Starship Pegasus (1,800 TEU) provided for the TVX entered the Incheon New Port SNCT early in the morning on August 16 for the first time. Starship Pegasus is one of the three ships operated for the TVX. The three ships (1,800 TEU) will be operated by Namsung Shipping, Dongjin Shipping and Pan Continental Shipping for 9 months. After that, they would be operated by Pan Ocean and CK Line for another 9 months. The TVX route is Incheon-Gwangyang-Busan-Ho Chi Minh-Laem Chabang-Bangkok-Laem Chabang-Ho Chi Minh-Incheon. It will be operated weekly.

Incheon port Targets 3m teu Throughput

The Incheon Port Authority or IPA (www.icpa.or.kr, IPA) proclaimed a new voyage to make the top 30 ports in the world in a ceremony to celebrate the achievement of 2.5 million TEU annual container volumes at Incheon New Port located in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, on December 16. Incheon Port's annual container volume surpassed 2.5 million TEUs as of December 16, the largest-ever volume in the history of Incheon Port, in 11 years since hitting 1 million TEUs in 2005 and in three years since reaching two million TEUs in 2013. With this trend going, Incheon Port is expected to handle a total of 2.68 million TEU container volumes by the end of this year. This is a 12% increase from last year's 2.37 million TEU.

Incheon Port Emerges as Port for Government’s Stockpiles

Korea's Incheon Port is rapidly emerging as a port for government stockpile imports due to a significant increase in imports of US edible soybeans. Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced  that the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) designated Incheon Port as the exclusive port for receiving 10,000-ton container volumes through a bid announcement of the basis purchase in 2018. The volume is a 66% increase from the 6,000 tons imported via Incheon Port that aT designated as the import port when it imported a basis purchase in 2017 and a spot purchase in 2016. The import volume increased five-fold from the 2,000 tons of US edible soybeans imported by the government as its stockpile in 2015.

IRISL launches Direct Container Service from Incheon to M.E.

THE Incheon Port Authority said a regular container service connecting the port directly to the Middle East has been launched for the first time, backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL). According to MANA,The Iranian state-run IRISL will deploy its 5,100-teu vessel Touska in the Middle Eastern route, named HDM Loop, it said in a statement. Two containerships of 5,100 teu capacity each will be put in operation, along with four 6,500 teu container carriers. No other details on the six vessels were provided. The seven vessels will enter Incheon New Port at fortnightly intervals, the IPA said. Incheon New Port was partly opened in June last year.

Wärtsilä dual-fuel technology selected for 'green ship' project by South Korea Government. Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply the main engine for a Korean government Incheon Port Authority (IPA) Guideship. Environmental sustainablility is a priority for this ship. The 200 gross tonnage Guideship is to be designed and coordinated by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in Korea on behalf of the state-owned Incheon Port Authority (IPA).
