India’s import and export container trade in Q3 2019 (July-September) remained flat as compared to global growth of 1.5%. The slowdown is aligned closely with the weaker domestic demand, as well as a reflection of the broad-based cyclical weakening of the economic environment in all the main global economies. The Italian electric power transmission specialists Prysmian, German multinational conglomerate Siemens and Swedish cable manufacturer have secured contracts worth a total 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to build the world’s longest subsea power cable, the Viking Link between Britain and Denmark.National Grid and Energinet have recently announced that these cable and converter station suppliers are chosen for the UK’s first ever subsea electricity inter-connector to Denmark.The 1.4 GW high voltage direct current inter-connector, which will be the longest in the world when completed, will stretch 768 kilometers from Lincolnshire to Western Denmark.The project will consist of two parallel HVDC cables which will be manufactured and installed by Prysmian Powerlink S.r.l.

There’s a new designer in the driving seat at Alu Design. Per Ivar Selvaag, the former Lead Designer at BMW Group and Chief Designer of Peugeot’s concept car division, has signed an agreement with the Kristiansand, Norway-based company to design its marine pilot and operator chairs. In what Alu Design CEO Einar Ulrichsen describes as “a huge coup for the business”, Selvaag and his team at San Francisco-based Montaag have agreed to work on the firm’s molded aluminum chairs on an ongoing project-by-project basis. As part of the deal, Montaag will not design marine chairs for any other manufacturer. “This is an incredible development,” said Ulrichsen.

An agreement has been reached between the European Union and China on its participation in the GALILEO program. This agreement was initialled in Beijing on September 18 by F. Lamoureux, Director-General of Energy and Transport at the European Commission, and M Shi Dinghuan, Secretary General of China's Ministry of Science and Technology. “China will help GALILEO to become the major world infrastructure for the growing market for location services,” said Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the GALILEO programme.
