Polaris Bunkered in Finland

The world’s first LNG-fueled icebreaker, Polaris, received liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel in January from the Pori LNG import terminal and in February from the Manga LNG terminal located in the Röyttä Harbor in Tornio, Finland. The commercial use of the Tornio import terminal begins this year, said a press release from Nordic gas company Gasum.The gas and fuel market of Northern Finland will diversify as the commercial use of the Tornio import terminal begins this year. Access to LNG is an important competitiveness factor for current industrial operators in the area as well as for the Port of Tornio. Finland's Manga LNG Terminal Gets First Cargo

The first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrival to the LNG import terminal in Tornio, Finland, on Sunday November 19, 2017. The Manga LNG natural gas import terminal in Röyttä Harbor, Tornio, is a joint venture of the industrial companies Outokumpu and SSAB Europe, the energy company EPV Energy and the LNG company Skangas. LNG was shipped to the terminal by Coral Energy, a time-chartered LNG carrier operated by Skangas. Once completed in summer 2018, the import terminal will be the largest LNG terminal in the Nordic countries and the second LNG terminal in Finland. Finland's 1st LNG Terminal Opens

Finland’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal at Pori on the west coast was officially opened, says Gasum. Deliveries of LNG to customers began on the same day, the company said in its statement. It enables LNG deliveries to industrial, maritime and heavy-duty road transport customers outside the gas pipeline network and diversifies the Finnish energy market. Access to LNG in Finland will improve considerably following the opening of the terminal. This is an important competitiveness factor for the M20 Industrial Park at the Port of Pori as well as current industrial operators in the area, of which the energy company Huntsman Pigments and Additives Oy, Kemira Oyj, Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta Oy and Porin Prosessivoima have already switched to LNG.

First Shipload of LNG Arrives at Skangas Terminal Finland

Sunday July 10th 2016 the first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrived at the Gasum’s subsidiary Skangas LNG terminal in Pori. To be completed in August, the facility is the first LNG import terminal in Finland. LNG was brought with the time chartered Skangas Coral Energy carrier from the North West Europe. The Skangas LNG terminal is undergoing commissioning, and commercial deliveries to customers will begin in September. LNG will help diversify the Finnish energy market as it enables deliveries to industrial operators outside the gas pipeline network as well as for maritime and heavy-duty road transport. The construction of the Skangas LNG import terminal in Pori has progressed according to the planned schedule without any accidents resulting in absence from work.

Vandermeiren is CEO, Antwerp Port

Jacques Vandermeiren (52) has been appointed CEO of Antwerp Port Authority as of 1 January 2017. He succeeds Eddy Bruyninckx who after 25 years at the head of the Port Authority is retiring on 31 December 2016. Until January 2015 Vandermeiren held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Elia, the listed company that operates the national electricity grid in Belgium. He can draw on extensive experience in the energy sector, which will stand him in good stead with the industrial operators in the port. Skangass Celebrates Topping Up

Nordic liquefied natural gas operator Skangass  has celebrated a topping out ceremony at its Pori LNG terminal. The company said it was making progress in the construction of the storage tank for Finland's first LNG import terminal at the southern port of Pori. “Excellent progress has been made in the work, and the weather has also been on our side” Project Manager Stanislav Lysak from Gasum commented in a note, not elaborating on when the structure would be ready to receive LNG. The LNG terminal will comprise the LNG storage tank, loading docks, process units, flare torch, three loading docks for road tankers, a transformer building and a heat production unit. Skangass is investing €86 million on the Pori LNG import terminal in order to strengthen the Finnish LNG infrastructure.

GE’s Bolsinger Participates on Expert Panel

GE Marine’s General Manager, Brien Bolsinger, participated in a panel during the United States Navy League’s Sea Air Space industry exposition held recently in National Harbor, Maryland. Bolsinger discussed how GE’s LM aeroderivative gas turbines can help the United States Navy keep ship power costs effective, while employing modern technologies. During the panel session, Obsolescence: From Design to Modernization* held on April 17, Bolsinger indicated he believes the U.S. Select equipment with total ownership cost (TOC) weighted more heavily than acquisition price.
