MacGregor to Equip MBARI's New Research Vessel

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, said it has been taped to deliver a suite of overboard handling systems for the new oceanographic research vessel David Packard owned by Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), a private, nonprofit oceanographic research center based in California. Founded in 1987 by David Packard, MBARI’s mission is to advance marine science and technology to understand a changing ocean. Vigor Builds Patrol Boats for Jordanian Navy

Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Vigor (Team RB-M) in August delivered two additional Response Boat-Mediums (RB-Ms) to the U.S. Coast Guard. These boats are part of an approved foreign military sale to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through the Department of Homeland Security.Fincantieri Marinette Marine was the prime contractor and program manager for the project, and Vigor built the vessels at its Seattle facility.The Royal Jordanian Naval Force (RJNF) plans to operate the new boats from its base in Aqaba…

CMR to Supply CCTV Systems for Newbuild Semi-Submersibles

Marine automation and instrumentation specialists CMR Group said it has secured an order from industrial conglomerate Kongsberg Maritime AS for new closed-circuit television (CCTV) video surveillance systems for two new semi-submersible heavy lift, construction and accommodation vessels. The deal, which includes spare parts and maintenance support, will see the supply and installation of CCTV systems for the OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren, which are being built for China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co. Ltd. (CMHI).

USCG Releases Draft Cyber Guide for Maritime Facilities

Cyber risk has hit a critical peak within the maritime industry, and the significant impact of the Petya ransomware attack on scores of maritime entities only amplifies it. The attack effectively shut down major ocean carriers, including shipping conglomerate Maersk, and impacted marine terminal operations across the globe. Every maritime company, no matter the size or business function, is a potential target. The industry has seen a recent wave of guidelines and resolutions from maritime regulatory bodies related to maritime security and cyber risk mitigation.

Kongsberg Wins EPCI Contract for LNG-fueled RoPax Ferry Newbuild

Kongsberg Maritime said it has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), a subsidiary of Siem Group. This is the second RoPax contract that Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded at FSG. The ‘Full Picture’ contract, valued at approximately €20 million ($23 million), covers engineering, procurement and project management, maritime technology deliveries and installation on a LNG fuelled RoPax Ferry for French company Brittany Ferries Ltd.

ABS Expands Cybersecurity Guidance

ABS, a provider of classification and technical services to the global marine and offshore industries, unveiled the first comprehensive cybersecurity certification and optional notations for marine and offshore assets and facilities at the SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery, Marine) bi-annual international maritime trade fair. KONGSBERG Bags EPCI work for Two Caledonian Maritime Assets ferries

Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Installation (EPCI) contracts with the Glasgow based shipbuilder and marine fabricator, Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited (FMEL). The contracts, worth more than NOK 160 Million, cover deliveries to two 100 meter ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL). Kongsberg Maritime, together with its wholly owned subsidiary Kongsberg Maritime Engineering (KME) will execute the project. KME will provide all engineering, procurement and project management while Kongsberg Maritime will supply a 'Full Picture' system delivery. Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), a subsidiary of Siem Group. The contract, worth more than NOK 120 Million, covers engineering and maritime technology deliveries to a RoPax ferry for Irish Continental Group (ICG). Kongsberg Maritime together with its wholly owned subsidiary Kongsberg Maritime Engineering (KME) will execute the project. KME will provide all engineering, procurement and project management while Kongsberg Maritime will supply a 'Full picture' system delivery. The RoPax ferry will have a 194.80 m length overall and 31.6 m beam with a cargo capacity of 2,800 lane meters, and an additional dedicated car deck for 300 cars.

Kongsberg Wins EPC Work for Heavy Lift Units

Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded offshore EPC contracts worth more than NOK 520 million from the China Merchants Heavy Industries (CMHI) covering the deliveries of to two semi-submersible heavy lift and accommodation vessels; OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren, to be built at CMHI (Jiangsu) in Haimen, China for Serooskerke Shipco BV / Walcheren Shipco BV in the Netherlands. Kongsberg Maritime together with its wholly owned subsidiary Kongsberg Maritime Engineering (KME) will execute the project. KME will provide all engineering, procurement and project management while Kongsberg Maritime will supply a ‘full picture’ system delivery. The vessels are based on a similar design to the OOS Greta (pictured) currently operating for Petrobras in Brazil.

Kongsberg Maritime informs it has been awarded engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contracts worth more than NOK 160 million with the Glasgow based shipbuilder and marine fabricator Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited (FMEL) for two new 100-meter ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL). The ferries will be dual-fuel vessels so they can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine diesel, and are designed to carry 127 cars or 16 HGVs, or a combination of both and up to 1,000 passengers. Steel Cutting Ceremony for Otto Offshore Newbuild

On Friday 6 February 2015, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., China, held a steel cutting ceremony for the first of four platform supply vessels of ULSTEIN’s PX121 design being built for Otto Offshore Limited. The shipbuilding contracts at Wuchang were announced in August 2014. Ulstein Design & Solutions is contracted on the delivery of ship design & equipment to four PX121 type platform supply vessels. The contract includes the deliveries of design, engineering and main equipment. An extensive delivery from Ulstein Power & Control includes integrated control systems, bridge (radio, navigation), switchboard, diesel electric propulsion and frequency converters, and communication systems.

Ulstein Design & Solutions has entered into a contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd, China, for the delivery of ship design and equipment for four PX121 type platform supply vessels. The shipowner is the Singapore based Otto Offshore Ltd., who will receive all vessels in 2016. The contract also includes an option for four additional vessels. These PX121 vessels are capable of supporting offshore activities which are being carried out further from shore and in deeper waters. The vessels can carry flexible loads.

Athens Group Doubles Revenue, First Half of 2010

MAN Diesel & Turbo has reached agreement with TGE Marine Gas Engineering, specialist in the design and construction of cargo-handling systems for cryogenic gases, regarding their future cooperation. In particular, the agreement centers on MAN Diesel & Turbo’s medium-speed, dual-fuel engines and the mutual benefits arising from a collaboration with TGE’s gas systems to offer optimum customer solutions for gas-fuelled ships. Letter of Intent Signed with Aker Kvaerner on Gjoa Field

Aker Kvaerner has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a Letter of Intent for integrated control systems for safety and process automation on board a semi-submersible production platform destined to be used on the Gjoa oil and gas field in the North Sea. Aker Kværner will be building the platform deck, attaching it to the hull and preparing the platform for operation. Gaz de France Norway will be operator of the field. Besides safety and automation systems, the contract covers the delivery of a process simulator, as well as integrated engineering for Aker Kværner. This contract requires the extensive use of so-called 'integrated operations', a technology and work process which make it possible to monitor and control large parts of the offshore operations from onshore.
