NSML Taps Into Draft and Trim Optimization Data

NLNG Ship Management Limited (NSML) signed a contract with Kongsberg Maritime to deliver Shell’s patented JAWS (Just Add Water System) draft and trim optimization software across the entire NSML fleet of 11 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. Kongsberg's K-IMS Passes 100 LNG Installations

The Kongsberg Information Management System (K-IMS) has now had more than 100 installations for vessel owners and charterers in the LNG sector. As interest in data-sharing for operational efficiency grows in the LNG sector, Kongsberg  has conducted several successful customer trials to show the capabilities and benefits of integrating K-IMS in the last year. Harvey Gulf Makes Software Investment

Harvey Gulf International Marine recently deployed Advanced Logistics’ marine management system SAMM and preventative maintenance module Preventer on its fleet of marine transportation vessels. The software allows a vessel to generate operational reports onboard and transmit the data to shore in real time. The technology includes electronic logs, safety and crew management, commodity tracking, fuel and lube management, GPS mapping, preventative maintenance and more, coupled with an interactive web based interface for easy access to data.

ETC Extends Training Program to SAM Electronics

ETC announce that it has now partnered with SAM Electronics to provide ECDIS training for the CHARTPILOT and ECDISPILOT, complementing SAM’s successful cooperation with Safebridge for online training, and thereby expanding SAM’s ECDIS training capabilities. ETC, the ECDIS Training Consortium, is a joint venture of training partners working under the patronage and control of MSG MarineServe GmbH, a  sister company of  Safebridge, to deliver courses that implement the identical ECDIS training program, adhere to consistent quality standards and are audited externally on a regular basis. Kvichak Employs SolidWorks

Kvichak Marine Industries of Seattle is using SolidWorks software to design a new 45-ft. Coast Guard patrol boat for a wide range of maritime situations, including search and rescue, environmental protection, law enforcement, and port/coastal security. The company's prototype won the design contract for the boat in a three-vendor competition in 2006. A special provision in the $600m contract requires each of the boat's 5,000 parts to be fully modeled in CAD software. The data will fuel an interactive Web-based assembly that Coast Guard engineers can use in maintaining the boat for decades to come. Kvichak is using SolidWorks custom property capabilities to annotate the Web-based model.

The Search For John Paul Jones' Ship

Jones is forever immortalized by uttering the words, "I have not yet begun to fight", during the battle between his ship Bonhomme Richard and HMS Serapis, off the coast of England in 1779. The Naval Historical Center and other researchers are planning an expedition to try to find the wreck of Bonhomme Richard in the Summer of 2006. The Naval Historical Center (NHC) announced in October it is joining the Ocean Technology Foundation (OTF) in spearheading an expedition in the summer of 2006 to search for the remains of American Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones’ ship Bonhomme Richard.
