Radio Holland's NavCom for Six Malaysian Patrol Crafts

Radio Holland  Malaysia (RHM) secured a contract from Destini Shipbuilding & Engineering for the supply of Navigation and Communication equipment on board of six New Generation Patrol Crafts (NGPC). The vessels are being built for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). The scope of work encompasses detailed design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the Navigation and Communication equipment including the Steering System and Thermal Cameras. The vessels will play an important role in maritime search and rescue operations.

Alphatron Marine Opens Office in Belgium

Alphatron Marine said it has acquired a new office and warehouse space in Zwijndrecht, Belgium to serve customers in Belgium and France. The new location – operational since September and officially opened on November 9, 2016 – replaces the company’s existing Meerdonk office. Alphatron Marine Belgium is part of a group of companies governed by Alphatron Marine. Together, they act as importer, producer, developer and service provider of navigation, communication and automation systems. Besides this, the company provides specialized IT solutions.

Jotron Signs 18 Vessel Contract with Vard

Jotron AS, a manufacturer of professional communication systems for land, sea and air safety, has announced that it has secured two contracts for delivery of telephone communication and Public Address (PA) systems to 3 and 15 new module carrier vessels. The communication systems are forecasted for installation during 2017 and 2018. Jotron has designed and produced ship internal communication and offshore / onshore PA&GA systems since 1979. Jotron products are carefully designed and built for harsh maritime and offshore environments.

Lerwick Port Launches Latest VMS

Lerwick Port Authority have inaugurated a new Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) which utilises the latest technology to improve the handling of ship movements at the busy Shetland port. Transas, a world-leader in providing harmonised integrated solutions to the maritime industry, has installed the system across four sites covering the port area – port control in the main building and three remote stations, at Rova Head north of Lerwick and Maryfield and Kirkabister, on the island of Bressay, monitoring the northern approaches, inner harbour and southern approaches, respectively. Fibre and microwave links supply data back to port control. The completion was marked on Friday 19 August, 2016 with invitations extended to port users to view the new system.

Sea IT, Veritas Tankers Ink Long-term Software Deal

Sea IT has entered a long term ICT agreement with Veritas Tankers. The agreement comprises installation of BlueCORE Generation 4, an ICT platform specifically developed for the marine industry, and BlueCONNECT, a virtualized software which acts as mail server and carrier controller. Veritas Tankers will upgrade and have the installations made on all its vessels: Astina, Astral and Astoria. Sea IT will support Veritas Tankers during a three-year period though the Fixed BlueCORE ICT agreement.

Transas VMS for Lerwick Harbor

Transas signed a contract with Lerwick Port Authority to install a new Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) to cover Lerwick Harbour, in Shetland. The new Transas system is required to replace Lerwick Harbour’s existing system. Lerwick is a major commercial port in Britain, strategically situated at the crossroads of the North Sea and North-East Atlantic. Handling more than 5,000 vessel arrivals, totalling over 12,000,000 gross tonnes, annually, the deep-water port’s users include fishing, oil and gas support, cargo, sailing, ferries and cruises. Power and Endurance Ready for Austrailian Waters

Wamalhanha is the final newbuild in a series of six tugs of the Robert Allan Design, RAstar 3200 where her main duties will be terminal activities, escort duties, ship assist, towage duties. She was named on September 24, 2014 at UZMAR Workboat and Tug Factory for delivery. Rio Tinto owns six vessels in this series, these arePilbara Apollo, Kashima, Matsuzaka, Barrura, Gurrgura and Wamalhanha.These vessels have been adapted to requirements for the work in Australian Iron Ore Terminals including power and improved NOx and SOx reduction for the exhaust emissions.

Swedish Coastal Radio Network Modernized

The Swedish coastal radio network is a cornerstone of search and rescue activities in Swedish waters and is considered to be the mariner’s communication lifeline. The Swedish Maritime Administration is now investing some SEK 50 million to improve and modernise the system. “The coastal radio network is a fundamental part of our maritime infrastructure. The planned investment will improve its stability and increase maritime safety even further”, says Jon Granstedt, the Administration’s President of Construction and Engineering.

NSI Issue Notice on Counterfeit Batteries

NSI has become aware of non-original GMDSS batteries being promoted, sold and installed on board SOLAS convention vessels for use in GMDSS equipment required by SOLAS. In particular these counterfeit batteries are being promoted, sold and installed for use in Jotron products type Tron 40S, Tron SART, Tron SART 20 and Tron TR-20 GMDSS. The non-original batteries are apparently being manufactured in China, labeled with Chinese text and bearing CCS approval No. CQ07T00007. It should be realized that the use of non-original (replacement) batteries in legally required GMDSS equipment on Dutch flag vessels is not allowed, as this is considered an infringement of the MED type approval. Jotron Group Merges All Norwegian Operations

The Jotron Group today announces that it will merge their Norwegian companies; Jotron AS, Jotron Phontech AS and Jotron SatCom AS. The name of the new company will be Jotron AS. Kongsberg Maritime has, as previously announced by the 2 companies in March 2012, already acquired 100% of the shares in Jotron Consultas AS. “This merger and the sales of Jotron Consultas AS, will allow Jotron to fully focus on our core businesses: communication products and systems for maritime, land and air applications.” says Magnus Vold, Managing Director of the “new” Jotron AS, “It will allow us to consolidate our sales, R&D and production resources to expand the business and better serve our customers worldwide.” Jotron AS will after the merger have annual turnover of 305 MNOK and 150 employees.

Jotron Launches Multi-Purpose Strobe Light

Norwegian Jotron Electronics a.s introduces a new multi-purpose strobe light to be used as a personal safety equipment. The new handy pocket-sized rugged strobe light incorporates the very latest technology and weighs only 150 g, including batteries. The AQ-5 has two light sources: a high intensity xenon strobe light plus a low power torch. The high intensity strobe has a light output of 36 000 Pk lumen with a range of up to 6 nm and still an endurance of 12 hrs of continuous strobe operation. As a torch, it even has an endurance of 60 hrs of continuous operation. It runs on twin standard AA/LR6-sized alkaline batteries for easy replacement. It is activated manually by a large and rugged activation switch, or, optionally, by an automatic seawater contact.

Transas GMDSS Simulator Receives Type-Approval

In February 2002, The Russian Maritime Administration of the Ministry of Transport issued a type-approval certificate for the new GMDSS simulator from Transas, TGS4100, which the company had commercially launched in the beginning of the year. The range of the certified GMDSS equipment incorporated into the TGS4100 simulator, includes new Transas dedicated hardware consisting of the TGS4000 Console with SAILOR panels of VHF&DSC RT4822, MF/HF&DSC HC4500, Inmarsat-C H2095C and Battery Panel BP4680 and a separate Alarm Panel AP4365. In addition, the simulator is provided with Jotron’s VHF radio station, Tron Air for communication with aircraft and Cospas-Sarsat EPIRB E3 from McMurdo. The simulator network comprises an Instructor station and up to 16 interactive Trainee workstations.

Damen Delivers Pair of Tugs

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem recently delivered a pair of Stan Tug 2608s – Ilha de Sao Luis and O Bravo (pictured) – in fulfilment of its contract with Adminstracao dos Portos, which was signed in June 2003. The vessels will built for operation in the Port of Horta and the Port of Praia da Vitoria. The first vessel was delivered in February 2004 and the second vessel in March 2004. The pair were built from stock hulls with the yard numbers 509805 and 509806. Both vessels will be used for mooring operations, coastal towing and fire fighting operations.

Jotron Consultas Chosen by D/S Norden

D/S NORDEN A/S selected the Norwegian-based Jotron Consultas AS as their future provider of fleet management software. The two parties have signed an agreement which includes rollout of latest v.4 of the Consultas Fleet Management software suite for fleet and office. The software suite covers the following applications; C-Maintenance, C-Spares, C-Budget and C-Experience onboard, and C-Purchase, C-Budget C-Experience and C-Maintenance (Fleet version) for the office. The deal includes more than 30 ships operated and owned by D/S NORDEN A/S.

Imtech Marine Inks VSAT and TVRO Contracts

Imtech Marine has recently signed Global Distribution and Service agreements for satellite communication (VSAT) and satellite TV (TVRO) products with three prominent manufacturers. Via its company Radio Holland, Imtech Marine already had (long) relationships with Intellian, Jotron and Thrane & Thrane, which are now extended for VSAT and TVRO. All Imtech Marine branches (80 around the world)  will supply, install, commission and service the  systems and arrange airtime. The agreements are in line with Imtech Marine’s multicard strategy, focussed on quality solutions. As a full service provider and system integrator Imtech Marine’strategy is focussed on life cycle management partnership and on increasing the value of the ship’s operations.

Fleet management software joins extensive portfolio of marine technology solutions. Kongsberg Maritime, a leading marine technology developer has today (29th March 2012) acquired 100% of the shares in fleet management software specialist Jotron Consultas. A new product group consisting of all previous Jotron Consultas employees and based at Kongsberg Maritime’s premises in Horten, Norway, will be formed as a result of the acquisition. Jotron Consultas has developed a reputation as one of the leading specialist software providers for the sector.
