Svitzer Reshuffles Leadership in Americas and Europe

Towage services provider Svitzer has announced leadership changes across its Americas and European operations, starting from 2026, as part of a planned management transition.Arjen Van Dijk, who has served as managing director of Svitzer’s Americas business for the past six years, will move to lead the company’s European operations. During his tenure in the Americas, Svitzer expanded its footprint across the region and now operates in 13 countries with more than 100 vessels.Daniel Reedtz Cohen will succeed Van Dijk as managing director of Svitzer Americas.

Svitzer Names Uppelschoten Snelderwaard COO

On 1 December 2020, Ingrid Uppelschoten Snelderwaard will take up the role as global COO of Svitzer A/S, reporting to CEO Kasper Friis Nilaus. She will be based in Copenhagen.Uppelschoten Snelderwaard joins Svitzer from her current position as Global Head of Equipment and VP at Maersk and takes over from Svitzer’s current COO, Leonardo Sonzio, who will be moving on to become Maersk's Head of Fleet Operations.Uppelschoten Snelderwaard holds a degree in Economics and Languages from Hogeschool Zeeland, and a degree in Business Management from Nyenrode University in the Netherlands.

Svitzer Announces Leadership Changes

Towage operator Svitzer announced Monday that effective September 1, 2020, Lise Demant will leave her role as global chief commercial officer and take up the position of managing director for Svitzer’s Europe region, succeeding Kasper Friis Nilaus, who was recently appointed CEO of Svitzer A/S. Also effective September 1, Videlina Georgieva will succeed Demant as global CCO and enter Svitzer’s global leadership team.Both Demant and Georgieva are based in Copenhagen and will report to Nilaus.Demant joined Svitzer in 2013 as chief operating officer in Svitzer Asia Pte Ltd.…

Towage operator Svitzer announced its Board of Directors has appointed Kasper Friis Nilaus, VP and current Managing Director (MD) of Svitzer Europe, to succeed Henriette Thygesen as global CEO of Svitzer A/S, effective June 15.Going forward, Nilaus will continue to report to Thygesen in her capacity as CEO of Maersk Fleet and Strategic Brands. Svitzer A/S remains a fully-owned AP Moller-Maersk company.Nilaus joined Svitzer as Business Development Manager in 2007 and has since held various global and regional positions within commercial and general management…

Svitzer Christens Latest Tug Meridian

The global towage operator Svitzer held a ceremony on the River Thames  to officially christened Svitzer Meridian as the latest - and tenth - vessel in its Port of London fleet.During a naming ceremony held on the River Thames with guests representing a variety of customers and partners – including vessel builder Sanmar – the 70 tonnes bollard pull Azimuth Tractor Drive (ATD) Svitzer Meridian was officially christened by representatives from multinational electricity and gas utility company National Grid Grain LNG, who are godparenting the vessel.Meridian, whose name was chosen to reflect Maritime Greenwich’s Prime Meridian longitude line – and Svitzer’s longstanding links with the local area – has been in operation at the Port of London since November 2018…

Svitzer, Guangzhou Port JV to provide Towage

Guangzhou Port Group and Svitzer signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the intention of forming a joint venture providing towage and related marine services for the Port of Guangzhou. Guangzhou Port Group is the world’s 5th largest port with more than 100 vessel calls a day and a large towage market. If finally formed, the joint venture will provide towage and related marine services within the Guangzhou port with three tugs ranging from 5200HP to 6800HP. With coverage of some 40 countries and a fleet of more than 400 vessels, Svitzer is a leading global provider of towage and emergency response with an experienced management team.

Svitzer Asia Formers Towage JV in Qingdao Port

Qingdao Port International Co., Ltd and Svitzer Asia last signed a joint venture agreement last week in an effort to pool resources for future growth, establishing Qingdao Port Svitzer Towage Ltd to operate and manage towage services in the port. Qingdao Port International Co., Ltd is the main operator of Qingdao Port. “Establishing Qingdao Port Svitzer Towage Ltd is part of Svitzer’s ambition to grow in Asia, and will be the first operation of its kind for Svitzer in China,” said Alan Bradley, Regional Managing Director of Asia. Chief Commercial Officer, Kasper Friis Nilaus added, “This joint venture supports our global growth strategy by delivering towage services with high standards in safety and operational reliability, as well as providing advanced towage solutions at Qingdao Port.

Svitzer Bags 30-year Towing Deal in Costa Rica

Svitzer has entered a 30-year terminal towage contract to provide marine services for the new APMT Moin Container Terminal in Costa Rica, starting from the third quarter of 2017. In addition to supplying marine service, Svitzer will provide three 70TBP ASD tugs (two with FiFi 1), one pilot vessel and a maintenance barge for the Moin Container Terminal. Svitzer will also invest in local crew to train pilots and tug masters in its new training center in the Bahamas for the Moin Container Terminal. “The agreement with APMT was the result of a lengthy process where Svitzer assisted in all phases of the marine solution including simulations of the towage operations, determining size and layout of the turning basin and defining the optimal specifications of the tugboats.
