R&D Project Targets Better Gangway Operability

HMC Chooses Kongsberg Offshore Simulator
Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has selected Kongsberg Maritime’s K-Sim Offshore simulation platform to enhance crane operator training and the safe, efficient implementation of heavy lift operations. With the contract signed on May 21, 2014, delivery of what Kongsberg said will become the world’s most advanced offshore heavy lift crane simulator is planned for September 2015. Kongsberg Maritime Wins Navy Engine Room Simulator Deal
Kongsberg Maritime was selected by BAE and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to provide a custom engine room simulator for the training of engineers aboard Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) vessels. The new LHD Engineering System Trainer (LEST) is designed to enhance the Navy’s ability to train LHD vessel engineering personnel, an important and critical factor in operational availability. The LEST project is scheduled for delivery February 2013, and will include both full mission and desktop simulation systems, with integrated e-Learning facilities.

Kongsberg Maritime's simulation division and Vestfold University College has signed a framework agreement to further explore activities and projects of joint interest within research and development of maritime simulators from an innovation and human factor perspective. The agreement which was signed 22nd December 2010 comprises extensive R&D project plans and the use of an Interactive Simulator Laboratory (SIMSAM lab) at Vestfold University College, which will serve as a R&D facility. The agreement will include several R&D projects involving maritime simulators in different aspects.

The installation of a new suite of navigation simulators has been completed at the all-new Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) in Cairns, Australia. Installation took place in January 2011 and consisted of a 270 degree DNV Class A full mission bridge simulator, a 180 degree tug bridge, 8 destktop navlab stations with part task simulators for ECDIS training and an instructor station. The simulator delivery features exercise area databases of Australia's busiest ports.
