Noise Control Engineering, LLC (NCE) recently completed an underwater radiated noise study for Washington State Ferries (WSF), a study which entailed measurement of nine vessels representing all seven operating classes of WSF vessels, quantifying noise, potential impacts to orcas and other marine life, and methods of reducing noise.“With the increasing awareness of underwater noise impacts on marine life, both globally and locally in the Northwest, WSF is interested in learning more about how their operations may impact marine life,” said Jesse Spence, President, NCE.

Jumbo has been awarded a contract to support DEME Offshore in its scope of work on Ørsted’s Hornsea Two offshore wind farm. Jumbo’s scope of work in the project is the provision of transportation for 165 monopiles from Rostock to Eemshaven and 135 transition pieces from Aalborg to Eemshaven with a K3000 class vessel.In addition to shipping the monopiles and transition pieces, the project will see Jumbo undertake the project management for the transport scope, including the engineering…

Havila Kystruten and Kongsberg have signed a 10-year  “Power-by-the-Hour” service agreement for four new coastal cruise vessels that are currently under construction. The contract value is 150 million kroner ($17.5 million).Power-by-the-Hour was launched in 2017, and was first sold to the cargo operator NorLines the same year. The agreement means that the vessel owner is handing the responsibility for service planning and performance back to the equipment’s supplier, Kongsberg Maritime. The customer pays a fixed charge per hour of operation, per ship.

Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom is progressing a number of gas pipeline  stretching across the Black Sea projects with three major projects already 95.5 percent complete, the company claimed.The TurkStream will soon see the completion of its offshore section, bringing closer a consistent the supply of Russian gas to Turkey and its neighbours."The Company continues to pursue the extensive Eastern Gas Program and to build facilities associated with supplying gas to domestic consumers and to China. In particular, 127 producing gas wells were drilled at the Chayandinskoye field, the linchpin of the Yakutia gas production center. The German navigation system integrator Raytheon Anschütz has won a contract for the supply of a Synapsis Integrated Navigation System (INS) to an advanced research vessel. VARD Holding Limited, a major global designer and shipbuilder of specialized vessels, with their subsidiary VARD Electro AS, have selected Raytheon Anschütz’ Synapsis INS for a new research  vessel. The Synapsis INS is part of a large equipment and electrical installation package, which VARD Electro AS will provide to Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

Norwegian-owned shipbuilding group Kleven has signed a contract with the French fishery company Compagnie Des Peches Saint-Malo S.A. & SAS Comptoir Des Peches D’Europe Du Nord – Euronor, for the construction of an 80-meter-long stern trawler. The vessel is to be delivered from Myklebust Verft in September 2017, and is of NVC 374 WP design from Rolls-Royce. Two vessels of the same design were ordered by DFFU in June this year. Kleven CEO Ståle Rasmussen  said safety, low emissions and operational efficiency are key to the new vessel.

Vard Holdings Limited, through its specialized subsidiary Seaonics, has secured a large equipment contract for a vessel under construction at Fincantieri S.p.A. Based in Ålesund, Norway, Seaonics designs and manufactures offshore handling equipment to improve all critical lift and handling operations. Its products are used in subsea construction, module handling, well intervention, reservoir exploration, ocean trawling and other specialized applications in the offshore and marine industries.

The  aircraft carrier 'USS George Washington' and other U.S. Navy ships have been ordered to make best speed for the Republic of the Philippines, and at the same time Britain is deploying a warship & military transport aircraft to help people devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The aircraft carrier, which carries 5,000 Sailors and more than 80 aircraft, is currently in Hong Kong for a port visit. The crew is being recalled early from shore leave and the ship is expected to be underway soon.

Mechanical engineering specialist, EnerMech, is to open its first office in India as a first step in developing a presence in the country’s fast expanding oil and gas sector. The Mumbai office, headed up by newly appointed Country Manager Steve Watson, will be followed with the opening of a workshop and storage facility in Kakindada, Andrah Pradesh region, by the end of 2012. EnerMech believes its Process, Pipeline and Umbilicals, Cranes and Lifting, Engineering and Valves Divisions can add value to exploration and contractor companies operating in the region.

Omega Morgan, one of the West Coast’s leading heavy equipment transport companies, has named John McCalla CEO/President. McCalla comes to Omega Morgan from Warn Industries, also located in Portland. McCalla began his career as a project engineer at General Motors and then joined Warn Industries. He advanced through several positions at Warn and assumed the top executive leadership position in 2007. He has both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.

IHC Offshore & Marine, part of IHC Merwede, and SapuraCrest have signed two contracts for the design, engineering and construction of two new 550t pipelaying vessels. A third contract has been signed with OSX Construção Naval S.A. Brazil for the design and engineering of a 300t pipelaying vessel, as well as a large equipment package, supplied by IHC Engineering Business, among others. The orders have a total value of €450million. All three ships will install flexible pipelines in Brazilian waters…

In April 2011, The Chicago Fire Department took delivery of a new Fireboat to replace the aging Victor L. Schlaeger. The vessel was named in memory of Firefighter Christopher Wheatley, who lost his life in active duty in 2010. The new vessel was designed by Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver BC, and was built by Hike Metal Products of (serendipitously!) Wheatley, Ontario. This fireboat is one of several fireboats designed by Robert Allan Ltd. and built in Canada for US cities in recent years…

The Integrated Modular Customized, IMC designs are now ready for introduction to the ferry market. The aim is to achieve considerable cost savings, both in building the ships and in operating them.

According to some reports, the world’s first mining operation in the world to use vessels for dredging ore from the sea bottom was developed in 1907 by Australian Edward Miles. He dredged the sea bottom around Thailand’s modern tourist island of Phuket to recover tin, which had been mined on the island for hundreds of years. By the 1960s some innovative entrepreneurs had begun to build iron rafts using drills to loosen the sea bottom allowing them to vacuum the residue to the surface in order to separate the tin.
