LCS Team Confirms Seaframe Design
The Lockheed Martin-led Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) team has confirmed its semi-planing seaframe design performance in preparation for the program's final design contract. The team, consisting of ship builders Bollinger Shipyards and Marinette Marine, naval architect Gibbs & Cox, and prime Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT), has developed a fast, maneuverable and highly capable seaframe. "We are very confident in the performance of our offering," said Fred Moosally, president of Lockheed Martin's Maritime Systems & Sensors. Goodrich Corporation is a member of the Raytheon-led team recently selected by the U.S. Navy to finalize preliminary designs of a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) -- the next- generation surface combatant. First Littoral Combat Ship Christened
History was made on September 23 when the nationâ€™s first Littoral Combat Ship, Freedom (LCS-1) â€“ the inaugural ship in an entirely new class of U.S. Navy surface warships â€“ was christened and launched at the Marinette Marine shipyard. The agile 377-ft. Freedom -- designed and built by a team led by Lockheed Martin -- will help the Navy defeat growing littoral, or close-to-shore, threats and provide access and dominance in coastal water battlespace. Keel Laid on 13th US Littoral Combat Ship
The Lockheed Martin-led industry team officially laid the keel for the U.S. Navy's 13th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), the future USS Wichita, in a ceremony held at Marinette Marine Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin, today. Ship sponsor Kate Staples Lehrer completed the time-honored tradition and authenticated the keel of Wichita (LCS 13). Lehrer had her initials welded into a sheet of the ship's steel, which will ultimately be mounted in the ship throughout its entire service.

Nation's Third Littoral Combat Ship Successfully Completes Acceptance Trials. The nation's third Littoral Combat Ship, USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), successfully completed its U.S. Navy acceptance trials and will be delivered to the Navy this summer. Fort Worth is the second surface combatant designed and built by a Lockheed Martin-led industry team. Navy Terminates Lockheed Martin LCS Contract
The U.S. Navy Thursday said it was canceling a widely criticized Lockheed Martin Corp. contract to build a next-generation combat ship after negotiations to control cost overruns failed. Lockheed Martin Corporation expressed disappointment over the U.S. Navy's decision to terminate its contract for construction of the second of two new Littoral Combat Ships (LCS.) The Navy announced the action at the expiration of a 90-day stop work order imposed on the second ship in January to allow the service time to review costs associated with construction of the first LCS. On March 15, Navy Secretary Donald Winter announced that the stop work order would be lifted only if Lockheed Martin agreed to accept a fixed price incentive contract for its second ship.
News: LCS Competition Pared to Three Teams
Competition to build the next generation of small, fast combat craft, known as the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), recently took a big step forward with the awarding of contracts to three teams to proceed further with their design initiative. The multi-billion contract, which could be for as many as 60 vessels, is expected to be awarded in about seven months. Each of the three was awarded a contract for the performance of flight littoral combat ship (LCS) preliminary design. Each contractor will perform a seven-month preliminary design effort to refine its proposed littoral combat ship concept. LCS will be a high-speed ship designed for fighting in littoral or coastal areas.
LCS Manchester Completes Acceptance Trials
The seventh Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) built by Austal, Manchester (LCS 14), has completed acceptance trials December 15 in the Gulf of Mexico, marking the final significant milestone prior to the warship’s delivery in early 2018. This milestone achievement involved the execution of intense comprehensive tests by the Austal-led industry team while underway, which demonstrated to the Navy the successful operation of the ship’s major systems and equipment. The U.S. Navy has modified Austal USA’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) block-buy contract to include an eleventh ship, LCS 26, the Navy announced today.
