Trelleborg Provides Floatover Tech to Project in West Africa

Trelleborg’s engineered products operation has completed its supply of floatover equipment for Phase 3 of the DSO Escravos Gas Project; the operation’s first floatover in West Africa. Contracted by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Trelleborg provided Leg Mating Unit (LMU) pads for the floatover process, as well as surge fenders, shock pads and rubstrips to constitute the project’s boat landing systems. Offshore Float-over Installation Generates Renewed Interest

Bigger and heavier decks are on the horizon, installed in more remote locations.

An offshore installation method that is more than three decades old is generating renewed interest from many operators who are challenged with designing heavy-lift crane installations. Float-over installation has become a cost-effective alternative to lift installation for offshore construction, as ever-increasing size and weight of decks constantly exceed the lifting capacity of floating cranes. Exploration of oil and gas in more remote offshore fields is driving the increasing demand for larger offshore units along with float-over installations.

Trelleborg’s engineered products operation has completed its first oil and gas floatover project in China, supplying a range of its floatover hardware for the BoZhong (BZ) 35-2 COOEC offshore platform in Tianjin.
