Daewoo Lands $340 Million LNG Order

South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said on Tuesday it had won a combined $340 million order to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from Belgium and Norway. Daewoo Shipbuilding won orders to build a $170 million LNG ship each from Belgian shipping group CMB unit Exmar and Golar LNG of Norway, a company spokesman said. Daewoo's LNG orders totaled 10 ships worth $1.7 billion so far this year, he said.

Hyundai Heavy Wins LNG Orders

South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries won $340-million orders to build two LNG carriers for Golar LNG of Norway. One of the ships would be delivered by December 2003 and the other by July 2004, said a spokesman for the world's largest shipbuilder. With the new contracts, LNG orders for Hyundai Heavy have risen to six ships this year, worth about $1.02 billion, he said.

FLEX LNG Orders Third LNG Vessel

FLEX LNG ordered its third 90,000 cubic meter (3.1 MMcf) SPB liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel this year from Samsung Heavy Industries. South Korean Yards Expected To Nab 75 Percent of LNG Orders

South Korean shipyards are expected to win about 75 percent of an estimated 48 orders for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers this year, industry officials said on Wednesday. "There are virtually no rivals to compete with Korean shipbuilders in making LNG carriers in terms of price and quality," said Yoo Jae-won, a spokesman for the Korea Shipbuilders' Association. Surging demand for environmentally friendly LNG was expected to raise the number of LNG carrier orders to around 48 this year from only 14 last year. "Korean shipbuilders are poised and look likely to grab most of the orders," Yoo said. Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, the world's second-ranked yard, said its LNG orders totalled 10 ships worth $1.7 billion so far this year, with options for 12 more.

Daewoo wins $1.1B LNG Orders

South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, the world's second-largest shipyard, said on Monday it has won orders worth $1.1 billion for four LNG (liquefied natural gas) ships. The company said in a filing to the Korea Stock Exchange Bergesen of Norway had placed an order for three LNG carriers, although did not give the buyer of the fourth ship.

Daewoo Gets 690m Qatar LNG Order

According to reports, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co has secured an order worth 690m from Qatar Gas Transport Company to build three liquefied natural gas carriers. The vessels will be delivered by April 2009. The shipbuilder plans to boost its annual production capacity of LNG carriers to 15 from eight ships now by 2008. Source: Forbes

DSME Building 5 Icebreaking LNGCs for Yamal

Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is building five large Arctic Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGCs), for which it has LNG ordered membrane containment systems from designer GTT.   These five ARC 7 LNGCs for Yamal Trade are expected to be delivered between 2017 and 2019 and will be built with the NO96-GW technology, which allows an optimized boil-off rate of LNG cargo.   GTT said it recorded 10 similar orders for icebreaking LNGCs in 2014.    Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT commented, "The harsh Arctic conditions make transporting natural gas a huge challenge. GTT is very proud that membrane containment solutions were chosen for these new generation vessels."  

Yangzijiang Diversifies into LNG Vessel Buildiing

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Limited “Yangzijiang” or “the Group”  one of PRC’s leading and most enterprising shipbuilder listed on the SGX Main Board, is pleased to announce that the Group has secured new shipbuilding orders from JHW Engineering & Contracting Limited, a subsidiary of JACCAR Holdings, the company that owns EVERGAS, a world leader in ethylene and ethane gas transportation, to build two 27,500CBM LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carriers. With downpayments duly received, the two LNG vessels worth US$135 million are now effective orders and included in Group’s order book.

Iran Increases LNG Orders

The National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) -- Iran's state tanker company -- has invested about $2 billion on 17 new oil tankers, and could order at least 30 more liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers by the end of the year, a senior official said, according to a Reuters report. NITC aims to become a global player in energy transportation and will register the ships outside Iran under financing agreements, to keep operating in the event of sanctions from its nuclear spat with the West. He said that NITC was currently awaiting the delivery of 13 VLCCs of 315,000-318,000- tons each, expected between the end of 2007 and early 2009. This will see their supertanker fleet size grow to 28.

Elengy, a unit of the French energy company and LNG player Engie, said that the LNG receiving terminal in Montoir-de-Bretagne, managed by the company, has just performed a new generation LNG transshipment. The ice-class LNG carrier Fedor Litke (170 000 cm capacity) has delivered to the LNG Jurojin (155 000 cm capacity) an LNG cargo the size of the yearly gas consumption of a city like Nantes. Teekay Order Two More 173,400 cu.m LNG Carriers

Teekay LNG Partners L.P. has exercised two of its three existing options with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., (DSME) of South Korea for the construction of two 173,400 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier newbuildings for delivery in 2016. These two newbuilding LNG carriers are in addition to the two LNG carriers Teekay LNG ordered from DSME in December 2012, which have since secured time-charter employment commencing upon delivery. LNG: New Milestone for MAN Rollo

MAN Rollo will provide the crane vessel Werkendam with three LNG generator sets. International marine and offshore contractor Van Oord is currently building the ship at Neptune Shipyards in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. It is the first LNG powered vessel for both the yard and Van Oord. Andreas Silcher Negotiates LNG Carrier Contracts

Partner Andreas Silcher in Haynes and Boone’s London office represented TMS Cardiff Gas in its contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea (HHI) for the construction of one 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier with XDF propulsion, plus an option for a second vessel. In a press release, TMS Cardiff Gas called the order the first in the company’s X Carrier Series of orders, which expands the company’s fleet of managed vessels to 10. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2020, when she will enter into a seven-year time charter contract with TOTAL Gas & Power Chartering, Limited.

Samsung Records LNG Order

Qatar Gas transport Company (Nakilat) has placed order for another Q-Max LNG carrier, the largest liquefied natural gas tanker in operation, according to a report on www.gulf-times.com. Nakilat signed the shipbuilding contract for Q-Max, with a capacity of 265,000 metric tonnes, with Samsung Heavy Industries, South Korea. With the vessel joining Nakilat service, the company will have a fleet strength will rise to 17. A Q-Max vessel costs about $300mn. In addition to the fully-owned 17 LNG carriers, Nakilat holds stakes between 30% and 60% in another 28 LNG carriers either delivered or on order to service various Qatari LNG projects. The ship will be powered by twin, slow speed diesel engines and will have full-scale on-board re-liquefaction plants which maximize LNG deliveries.

French Snag LNG Order

In February Gaz de France ordered a 74,000 cu. m. LNG carrier from Chantiers de l'Atlantique, with an option for a second vessel. The French have maintained a strong hold on this high-tech, high-value ship type despite the general migration of gas ship orders to the Far East. In particular, Bureau Veritas helped develop the concepts for the vessels, and developed unique new rules to allow the yard and owners to break new technological frontiers. "BV has consistently been the world leader in LNG carriage, since development of membrane LNG carriers was first begun," says Bruno Dabouis, commercial manager of BV's marine division. "Now we will class these new vessels, which are a quantum leap forward in cost-effective LNG transportation. The ships have two key innovations.

Schulte Group Buys LNG Specialist PRONAV

Hamburg shipowning and management group Bernhard Schulte has signed a contract for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in the prestigious LNG ship manager PRONAV - subject to merger approval of the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt). The worldwide operating Schulte Group owns about 100 vessels (mainly container, tanker, bulker) and manages 600 vessels in all segments. PRONAV, based in Hamburg, is an internationally renowned ship manager specialized in large LNG tonnage.

Latest Newbuildings: Ultra-large Boxship Orders Predominant

With the summer holidays slowly drawing to a conclusion the newbuilding market has remained relatively quiet this week, though Clarkson Hellas Weekly S+P anticipate activity to pick up again shortly. Somewhat reflective of this subdued activity is that Clarkson have seen no new orders reported in the dry bulk this week, which contrasts directly with the activity witnessed in this sector so far this year. That being said, the market has however witnessed further activity in the medium size tanker sector as well as in the larger sizes of both the gas and particularly containers markets.

TMS Cardiff Gas said it signed a contract with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of one 174,000 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, with an option for a second vessel.   The newbuild is scheduled for delivery in 2020, when she will enter into a seven year time charter contract with TOTAL Gas & Power Chartering, Limited.   This order is the first in the company’s X Carrier Series, which expands the TMS Cardiff Gas fleet of managed vessels to 10 (six LNG carriers and four VLGCs).

Korea to be Shipbuilding Leader Again: President

President Moon was visiting Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering`s Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, to inspect the shipbuilding yard of an icebreaker arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. “The government will protect and bring up your hope,” he said. The icebreaker LNG carrier the president inspected is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that`s specialized in polar regions. It enables the ship to safely navigate cold weather in temperatures as low as minutes 52 C.

GTT to Design LNG Tanks for Korean Shipyard

GTT received at the end of 2017 an order from a South Korean shipyard regarding the design of the LNG tanks of a new LNG carrier. Its delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020. GTT will design the LNG tanks of the unit, allowing for a capacity of 174,000 m3. The insulation solution Mark III Flex has been chosen for its ability to reduce the daily guaranteed Boil-Off gas rate to 0.085% of tank volume. 48 vessels in service already benefit from this technology. The shipowner and shipyard's names are kept confidential at this stage.

Adoption of LNG as Marine Fuel Significantly Accelerated in 2017

Titan LNG says that the stage has been set for a push in the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel beyond the tipping point. The order book for LNG-powered ships grew substantially, the LNG bunkering infrastructure is maturing and the pricing of LNG has become structurally competitive versus MGO. In 2017 around 11% of all new build contracts were LNG powered ships, a trend that we expect to continue during 2018.
