DLM Launches Container Load Monitoring System
Chant Engineering announced that business partner DLM has introduced a new product for the International Shipping Industry: the Twistlock Load Cell and Container Load Monitoring System. To increase the safety of cargo ships at sea, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has developed new guidelines regarding the weighing of containers prior to departing from port. On July 1, 2016 the guidelines, along with an amendment to SOLAS regulation VI, will be introduced and will require the recording and documentation of the Verified Gross Mass of packed shipping containers. The new monitoring system is designed and manufactured in the U.K. by the ISO:9001:2008 Certified, Dynamic Load Monitoring (U.K.) Ltd.
Strainstall Supply Load Pins for Shell Stones Project
Strainstall UK Limited has been selected to work alongside SBM offshore on the prestigious Shell Stones project, which is an ultra-deep Oil and Gas development in the Gulf of Mexico and is currently the deepest production facility in the world at approximately 2,900 meters. The project involves the use of an FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Off loading) which has a forward mounted turret with a disconnectable buoy (Buoyant Turret Mooring or BTM) allowing it to weathervane in normal conditions and disconnect from the FPSO upon the approach of a hurricane so that the FPSO can sail to a safer area. Trelleborg Patent Pending for Fender Load-Monitoring Systems
Trelleborg Marine Systems, a manufacturer of docking, mooring and berthing equipment, has received patent pending status on a system for monitoring the load on marine fenders. The new system is designed to help avoid disputes and the costly downtime associated with insurance claims. The marine fender load-monitoring system can be used to measure both the impact on fenders when a vessel berths, and the ongoing force applied as the vessel continues to bear against them while docked. “The data collected by this system could prove to be invaluable to ports and harbors all over the world in avoiding disputes and the costly downtime associated with insurance claims,” said Trelleborg Marine System’s Technical Director, Scott Smith.
