Cammell Laird: Polar Ship Contract to Kick-start Exports

Transport Minister Visits Liverpool2 Development

UK Shipping Minister Visits Liverpool2 Site
U.K. Shipping Minister Robert Goodwill MP has welcomed the investment being made by Peel Ports during a March 10 visit to the companyâs Liverpool2 container terminal. Engine Refit for Mersey Pilot Boat
Merseyside-based engine specialist James Troop & Co has secured a deal to supply and install two Volvo Penta D9 engines to extend the service life of one of Liverpoolâs River Mersey pilot boats. The firm said it was approached by Peel Ports to replace the engines onboard the Fulmar â one of eight Mersey pilot boats. James Troop immediately sent technical manager Alan Railton and engine sales executive Anthony Ward to work with the customer to perform all the necessary onboard checks, measure up and prepare a recommendation.

Culina Group to Set Base at Peel Group's Port Salford
Food and drink logistics giant, Culina Group, has been announced as the first major tenant at the new National Import Centre being developed by the Peel Group, as part of its multi-million pound Port Salford development (located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Manchester City Centre in the UK). Culina Group will take occupation of the first warehouse distribution unit to be built on the Port Salford site - the UKâs first tri-modal inland port facility and Distribution Park, accessible by rail, road and short sea-shipping. The property comprises 26,022 sq. m. (280,000 sq. ft.) of accommodation, including ancillary offices, service yard and parking.
Retailers Head North of England
A shortage of inland transport capacity and increased waiting times for lorries at ports in the south of England have brought an uplift in the volume of containers to the Port of Liverpool. Over 300 industry guests gathered at the Port of Liverpool yesterday (Thursday June 6th) to toast the launch of Peel Portsâ landmark deep water container terminal Liverpool2.. Sir Bobby Charlton and âKingâ Kenny Dalglish pushed the button on the start of dredging and launched a dazzling display of fireworks over the site of the new terminal in the Mersey. Peel Ports Invests £8m in the Port of Liverpool
An £8 million investment in the Port of Liverpoolâ animal feed warehouse facility makes it the largest of its type in the U.K., increasing capacity by 60% to 400,000sq.ft, allowing Peel Ports Group to add value to its customer supply chains and create effective logistics solutions, the company said. The Port of Liverpool is the U.K.âs most centrally positioned port and can uniquely connect by water to the major conurbations of Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast and Manchester, via the Manchester Ship Canal.
CMA CGM Increases Global Trade to Liverpool
CMA CGM has backed Peel Portsâ £300m Liverpool2 development by doubling the frequency of its feeder service to the port. CMA CGM now offers twice-weekly calls in Liverpool from its hub in Le Havre, France and a new weekly call at Greenock, Scotland and Cork, Ireland. Weekly calls to Dublin and Belfast were already established. The companyâs expansion into Liverpool will take advantage of Peel Portsâ established Green Highway Network, a shuttle service which carries freight 44 miles inland using the Manchester Ship Canal.
Dredging Begins at Port of Liverpool
Work on Liverpool2, a new terminal at the Port of LIverpool, has begun. More than one million cubic meters of material will now be moved by dredgers to clear a deep-water channel at the Port of Liverpool (United Kingdom), operated by Peel Ports. The dredging work â funded by a £35 million U.K. Government Regional Growth Fund grant â will create a 16.5-meter deep berthing pocket to secure access to the developing Liverpool2 project. This funding was awarded to the Mersey Docks and Harbor Company by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne last month (May 2013).

Port of Liverpool, UK, Container Terminal Gets EIB Finance
River Mersey'a new terminal, 'Liverpool 2', gets European Investment Bank (EIB) port development loan. Liverpool 2, is due to open in 2015, and the European Investment Bank has agreed to provide almost half the finance for the £305m development, reports BBC News Liverpool. The post-Panamax terminal - for ships wider than the original Panama Canal - will be capable of handling ships carrying 13,500 TEU containers, compared to the current limit of 3,500 TEU in Liverpool, and will be able to accommodate two large ships at the same time. Owner Peel Ports, said the terminal, which is part of a 20-year plan to transform the Port of Liverpool, would be more efficient and better for the environment as it would take large amounts of freight off the UK road and rail networks.
