Peel Ports in Brexit Preparedness

Cammell Laird: Polar Ship Contract to Kick-start Exports

British shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird said it plans to unleash an “aggressive exports drive” in 2017 after one of its busiest years for commercial marine work, which saw it land the biggest shipbuilding project in the U.K. for a generation. Cammell Laird CEO John Syvret said the winning of the £150 million contract to build the Sir David Attenborough polar research vessel for the U.K. Government “threw open” a new global market to build a range of high value polar vessels from research to cruise ships.

Liverpool2 Terminal Open for Business

One of the world’s most modern shipping terminals has been opened for business in the Port of Liverpool, offering a new state-of-the-art deep water gateway in the U.K. for the world’s largest containerships. Transport Minister Visits Liverpool2 Development

U.K. Transport Minister, Andrew Jones MP visited the Port of Liverpool Monday, May 16 to view the latest developments at Liverpool2 as the terminal approaches its opening. The Minister, who has responsibility for the strategic roads network and ports, received a tour of the site during a visit to the city to discuss prospective improvements to the major A5036 corridor used by hauliers calling at the Port of Liverpool. “The container shipping industry plays a vital role in the U.K.’s economy, whether putting goods on shop shelves or in helping U.K.

UK Shipping Minister Visits Liverpool2 Site

U.K. Shipping Minister Robert Goodwill MP has welcomed the investment being made by Peel Ports during a March 10 visit to the company’s Liverpool2 container terminal. UK's Peel Ports to Expand Liverpool to Weather Container Slump

Peel Ports, one of Britain's largest port operators, expects to withstand the container shipping slump with a bold project aimed at attracting cargo to Liverpool away from southern gateways, its chief executive said. The container market, which ships retail goods from iPhones to designer clothes and food products, has been hit hard by a slowdown in demand for goods from Asia, especially China. Engine Refit for Mersey Pilot Boat

Merseyside-based engine specialist James Troop & Co has secured a deal to supply and install two Volvo Penta D9 engines to extend the service life of one of Liverpool’s River Mersey pilot boats. The firm said it was approached by Peel Ports to replace the engines onboard the Fulmar – one of eight Mersey pilot boats. James Troop immediately sent technical manager Alan Railton and engine sales executive Anthony Ward to work with the customer to perform all the necessary onboard checks, measure up and prepare a recommendation.

Culina Group to Set Base at Peel Group's Port Salford

Food and drink logistics giant, Culina Group, has been announced as the first major tenant at the new National Import Centre being developed by the Peel Group, as part of its multi-million pound Port Salford development (located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Manchester City Centre in the UK). Culina Group will take occupation of the first warehouse distribution unit to be built on the Port Salford site - the UK’s first tri-modal inland port facility and Distribution Park, accessible by rail, road and short sea-shipping. The property comprises 26,022 sq. m. (280,000 sq. ft.) of accommodation, including ancillary offices, service yard and parking.

Retailers Head North of England

A shortage of inland transport capacity and increased waiting times for lorries at ports in the south of England have brought an uplift in the volume of containers to the Port of Liverpool. Over the last 12 months Metro Shipping has transferred several high-profile retail customers from Felixstowe and Southampton to Liverpool to realise the benefit of reduced inland haulage costs, especially for goods coming from the Far East and US. Peel Ports Celebrate Launch of Liverpool2

Over 300 industry guests gathered at the Port of Liverpool yesterday (Thursday June 6th) to toast the launch of Peel Ports’ landmark deep water container terminal Liverpool2.. Sir Bobby Charlton and ‘King’ Kenny Dalglish pushed the button on the start of dredging and launched a dazzling display of fireworks over the site of the new terminal in the Mersey. The two footballing legends were invited to symbolise the great benefits that Liverpool2 – along with Peel Ports’ investments in port hubs along the Manchester Ship Canal – will bring to both the cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Peel Ports Invests £8m in the Port of Liverpool

An £8 million investment in the Port of Liverpool’ animal feed warehouse facility makes it the largest of its type in the U.K., increasing capacity by 60% to 400,000sq.ft, allowing Peel Ports Group to add value to its customer supply chains and create effective logistics solutions, the company said. The Port of Liverpool is the U.K.’s most centrally positioned port and can uniquely connect by water to the major conurbations of Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast and Manchester, via the Manchester Ship Canal.

CMA CGM Increases Global Trade to Liverpool

CMA CGM has backed Peel Ports’ £300m Liverpool2 development by doubling the frequency of its feeder service to the port. CMA CGM now offers twice-weekly calls in Liverpool from its hub in Le Havre, France and a new weekly call at Greenock, Scotland and Cork, Ireland. Weekly calls to Dublin and Belfast were already established. The company’s expansion into Liverpool will take advantage of Peel Ports’ established Green Highway Network, a shuttle service which carries freight 44 miles inland using the Manchester Ship Canal.

Dredging Begins at Port of Liverpool

Work on Liverpool2, a new terminal at the Port of LIverpool, has begun. More than one million cubic meters of material will now be moved by dredgers to clear a deep-water channel at the Port of Liverpool (United Kingdom), operated by Peel Ports. The dredging work – funded by a £35 million U.K. Government Regional Growth Fund grant – will create a 16.5-meter deep berthing pocket to secure access to the developing Liverpool2 project. This funding was awarded to the Mersey Docks and Harbor Company by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne last month (May 2013).

Len celebrates 100th on the Ship Canal

Len Jones was born in 1911, the coronation year of King George V and the year the Titanic was launched at Harland & Woolf in Belfast. During his lifetime there have been four British monarchs, 19 Prime Ministers, two World Wars and the break up of the British Empire. Women have won the vote, man has landed on the Moon and the world has seen the invention of television, computers, the internet, mobile phones and SatNavs. Len celebrated his 100th birthday with a special trip on the Manchester Ship Canal, where he spent his working life of almost 50 years and retired as deputy general manager.

Port of Liverpool, UK, Container Terminal Gets EIB Finance

River Mersey'a new terminal, 'Liverpool 2', gets European Investment Bank (EIB) port development loan. Liverpool 2, is due to open in 2015, and the European Investment Bank has agreed to provide almost half the finance for the £305m development, reports BBC News Liverpool. The post-Panamax terminal - for ships wider than the original Panama Canal - will be capable of handling ships carrying 13,500 TEU containers, compared to the current limit of 3,500 TEU in Liverpool, and will be able to accommodate two large ships at the same time. Owner Peel Ports, said the terminal, which is part of a 20-year plan to transform the Port of Liverpool, would be more efficient and better for the environment as it would take large amounts of freight off the UK road and rail networks.
