US Hits Iran With Fresh Sanctions

The United States on Tuesday blacklisted a Chinese company that makes elements for steel production, 12 Iranian steel and metals makers and three foreign-based sales agents of a major Iranian metals and mining holding company, seeking to deprive Iran of revenues as U.S. President Donald Trump's term winds down.In a statement, the U.S. Treasury Department named the China-based company as Kaifeng Pingmei New Carbon Materials Technology Co Ltd.

Buck Younger, Vice President of Engineering with VT Halter Marine, was named the Marine Engineer/Naval Architect of the Year by the Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE). VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), is a company of ST Engineering North America. VT Halter Marine also sponsored the two MACE scholarship winners.In April 2019, VT Halter Marine announced that the U.S. Department of the Navy awarded the company as the prime contractor of a $745,940,860 fixed-price incentive-firm contract for the detail design and construction of the U.S.

Tuco Adds New Product to ProZero Series

Tuco Marine Group has just launched the SOLAS compliant ProZero Mrk 3 Fast Rescue Boat as part of the carbon fiber-based ProZero line. With its lightweight construction, operational capacity is increased – the rescue craft can respond faster and cover more area over longer periods of time.The new FRC is a third-generation design built around the already well proven ProZero 7,5-meter Fast Rescue Boat. The first two iterations of the 7,5-meter FRC design have been developed and tested thoroughly during the ProZero development project for which Tuco received funding under the Horizon2020 SME Instrument program. This development project ended in 2018, but Tuco Marine has continued to refine the project results and implement them in the ProZero series.

Sandvik to Present at NACE CORROSION 2015

Growing Italian engineering, testing, inspection, certification and ship classification group RINA has bought the major shareholding in Italy’s leading center for innovation in materials technology, CSM. According to RINA, the move strengthens its expertise in specialized steel processes and products, especially for the energy sector and in innovative waste to energy conversion technologies. Liebherr Celebrates Milestone

Last month Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH celebrated its 35th anniversary. An open day with over 20,000 visitors concluded the festivities in the Austrian village of Nenzing. Such a high attendance by far exceeded the ambitious expectations in the planning stages. The festivities started on Wednesday, 28th September, and on the second day Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH welcomed around 500 customers from all over the world. The open day was a showcase of the Nenzing factory, with company tours, machinery presentations, multi-vision shows, and information booths.

Landmark Research Agreement with Sintef

Statoil and Sintef have signed a new framework agreement – one which likely to be the most comprehensive individual research agreement ever signed in Norway. With a potential value of NOK 1 billion, the agreement is valid for four years with an option for an additional two plus two years. “Sintef has both wide and expert knowledge in disciplines that are important to Statoil, such as deepwater and multi-phase technology,” says Statoil research and development head Karl Johnny Hersvik. Statoil entered into its first framework agreement with Sintef in 1985.

Navy's Top Engineers and Scientists Honored

By Lt. Cmdr. John T. The Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, John S. Thackrah, today honored 46 of the Department of the Navy's top scientists and engineers at the second annual Top Navy Scientists and Engineers of the Year award ceremony at the Pentagon, May 29. The Department of the Navy has over 35,000 scientists and engineers pursuing research, development, acquisition and sustainment. The award was established to honor those who reached superior technical achievements and to promote continued scientific and engineering excellence. "This award ceremony recognizes the top scientists and engineers in the Department of the Navy," Thackrah said.

Keel Laying Ceremony for CVN 77

Navy tradition dictates that each ship constructed for the Navy be honored by ceremonies on four historic occasions: keel laying, christening (or launching), commissioning, and decommissioning. George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) will be honored with the first of its historic occasions on Saturday, September 6, at Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA. The keel laying celebrates the laying of the first timber of a ship and can be traced back to the construction of early Navy ships. The present-day ceremony maintains the tradition, but has been modified because of updated materials, technology, and shipbuilding techniques. Following the ceremony, the former President Bush will initial a nameplate to authenticate the keel that will then be welded to it.

CP Ships Appoints Torrens VP

Iain Torrens has been appointed vice president, treasurer for CP Ships. He is based at the company's management headquarters in London and reports to CFO Ian Webber. In his new role Torrens will be responsible for group treasury and taxation activities. Graham Lambert continues with his treasury responsibilities reporting to Iain Torrens. Torrens was previously Deputy Group Treasurer for Cookson Group plc, the U.K. international materials technology company.

P&O Euro Ferries Puts 3 Ships With A&P

A&P Birkenhead has won a three-ship contract from P&O European Ferries for passenger/car ferries operating across the Irish Sea. The ships involved are the 14,426 grt European Pioneer, the 18,653 grt European Envoy, and the 12,879 grt European Leader. All three ferries will be drydocked over the coming weeks, the first due to arrive in Birkenhead on July 21. The principle work on all three is deck renewals using the "Sandwich Plate System", patented by UK's Intelligent Engineering. Other scheduled repair work will also be carried out, with the yard remaining very flexible over the requirements of P&O. Intelligent Engineering (IE) has designed and patented the revolutionary technology called Sandwich Plate System (SPS).
