Cambodia Study Looks at Port Data Exchange

A feasibility study to look into the possible expansion of the Northeast Asia Logistics Information Service Network (NEAL-NET) is being undertaken in Cambodia, as part of a project co-funded by International Maritime Organization (IMO) and China. NEAL-NET was established in 2010 by China, Japan and the Republic of Korea as a transnational, non-profit cooperative mechanism for logistics information exchange and technological cooperation. The envisaged expansion of NEAL-NET is expected to support the implementation of the revised Facilitation Convention, which will require public authorities to establish systems for the electronic exchange of information relating to ships’ cargo, crew and passengers, by 8 April 2019.

Panama Maritime Authority Eyes More Ships

The Panamanian Maritime Administration is running important market strategies to expand the fleet, the Bulletin Panama quoted Jorge Barakat Pitty, the Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) as saying. "Thanks to these efforts for the period 2016-2020, we expect about 665 new-buildings to join the Panamanian registry, which will generate valuable income for the State," Jorge said. He said that all actions have been developed in strict compliance within the parameters established by law, so the AMP maintains its firm purpose for Panama to continue as leader in ship flagging, always with the highest standards of care and safety required by international organizations and all with the support of an excellent and professional human capital.

Mediterranean Shipping Co’s latest vessel MSC Oscar, the world's largest boxship, has entered the Panama Registry. The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has announced that the Merchant Marine Department has inscribed in the Panama Registry the MSC Oscar. The AMP says this is a reflection of the effort made by the present administration, to attract newly built vessels. The ship has a length of 394 meters and its other generalities are: IMO No. 9703291; construction year 2014; Gross Registered Tonnage: 192,237.00; Net Register Tonnage: 111.432.00.
