Mediterranean Shipping Co’s latest vessel MSC Oscar, the world's largest boxship, has entered the Panama Registry.
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has announced that the Merchant Marine Department has inscribed in the Panama Registry the MSC Oscar.
The AMP says this is a reflection of the effort made by the present administration, to attract newly built vessels.
The ship has a length of 394 meters and its other generalities are: IMO No. 9703291; construction year 2014; Gross Registered Tonnage: 192,237.00; Net Register Tonnage: 111.432.00.
The MSC Oscar's nominal capacity of 19,224 teu makes it the largest containership afloat. The ship is just slightly larger than China Shipping’s CSCL Globe, which was officially declared at 19,100 teu. Until then, Maersk’s 18,270 teu Triple-E ships were the biggest in service.
“We are proud of the MSC Oscar because it is the largest container vessel ever built, and it is also the one that has the most meaning for me, because it bears the name of my son,” said the General Manager of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Diego Aponte.
