ABB Marine Software Supports Ocean Research

ABB said it is providing the shipboard systems and systems expertise that will support the research voyages undertaken by ā€˜By the Ocean we Uniteā€™, a charitable organization whose mission is to highlight the damage done by the millions of tons of plastics that end up in the worldā€™s oceans every year. The group has installed a state of the art Marine Advisory System including SPOS Onboard weather routing software from MeteoGroup, on the sailing yacht Fantastiko to help crew route-plan and monitor weather conditions on a research voyage in waters off Rotterdamā€¦

Klaveness Orders Weather Service for 140 Ships

Weather business MeteoGroup is to provide fleet monitoring, performance reporting and weather routing services to Norwegian shipping company Torvald Klaveness. The contract will see MeteoGroup provide its ship routing, monitoring and performance analysis service, RouteGuard, to 140 of Torvald Klavenessā€™ owned and managed ships. Based on weather data from MeteoGroupā€™s own model, Nautical MeteoBase (NMB), a team of nautical and offshore meteorologists and master mariners will be responsible for planning and optimizing routes to ensure the safe and efficient passage of Klavenessā€™ vessels.

Maersk Orders Advisory Software for 140 Ships

Power and automation group ABB informs it is working with MeteoGroup to equip 140 containerships from Maersk Line with advisory software to optimize routes, boost maritime safety and protect cargo based on factors including the hull design and the weather; helping the shipping line avoid conditions that could be harmful to the ship, its crew or its cargo. The deal will see ABB combine its Octopus motion-monitoring, forecasting and decision-support software, which improves vessel availability and safety, with MeteoGroupā€™s SPOS Seekeeping plug-in.

Weather Data Integrated for Transas FleetView Online

Transas Marine announced that it has integrated MeteoGroup weather data in its FleetView Online SSAS-tracking software. With this integration Transas will have one global weather data supplier across the companyā€™s navigation product range. Utilization of weather service from the MeteoGroup in the FleetView Online (FVO) is a key advantage to Transas customers, the company said. FleetView Online weather interface provides current and five-day forecasted weather data over the entire chart folio, displaying sea conditions such as wind, waves and swell, current and other weather elements.

Optimized Voyage Planning in PC Maritime ECDIS

PC Maritimeā€™s Navmaster ECDIS is able to combine with MeteoGroupā€™s SPOS weather routing service to provide optimized voyage planning. Navigating officers can create a route in Navmaster and load it into SPOS for optimization. Weather limits, speed profile, bunker profile, voyage speed, fixed ETA, track types and delays are all taken into account and, with this information, the route can be quickly adjusted. The route is then transferred back to Navmaster ECDIS and rechecked for safe navigation. The Master can choose how often his route is optimized.

Maersk Orders Routing Software for 110+ Vessels

The Dutch weather routing software supplier Meteo Consult and Amarcon, have received an order from Maersk Line to equip a minimum of 110 Maersk Line container vessels with SPOS Seakeeping. The Seakeeping plug-in is a feature within Meteo Consults weather routing software SPOS. With this plug-in the user can define vessel loading conditions and motion threshold values based on the input of Amarconā€™s OCTOPUS-Onboard. Amarcon, a fully owned subsidiary of ABB, provides monitoring and forecasting software solutions for performance and availability optimization of sea-going vesselsā€¦

First Triple-E Vessel Sets Sail with SPOS

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, the largest ship in the world, took to the seas last week equipped with SPOS, MeteoGroupā€™s onboard weather routing and ship performance optimization system. The Triple-E series vessel sets new standards in the container industry, not just for size, but also of energy efficiency and environmental performance. With unique design features for slower speeds and maximum efficiency, this vessel will emit 50% less CO2 per container moved than the current average on the Asia-Europe route.
