Samskip Introduces New Shortsea Route to Antwerp,UK.
Samskip is launching a new shortsea service connecting Antwerp and Hull, in an expansion of its continent-UK multimodal network that also sees it debut at Belgium’s largest port.The intermodal logistics company said in a press release that the initial schedule offers a twice weekly short sea container service, with its first departure from Antwerp on the 12th October.The service will be operated by a 508TEU capacity vessel, sailing from ATO's multimodal terminal on Tuesday and Saturday and ABP Port of Hull on Thursday and Monday.This new connection is in addition to Samskip's existing shortsea services connecting Rotterdam with Tilbury, Hull and Grangemouth (eight per week) and the recent three times weekly Amsterdam-Hull service.
Ruscon Integrates Terminal Operations in Novorossiysk
RUSCON, a multimodal operator in Russia, is integrating its terminal operations close to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. RUSCON’s Novorossiysk and Yug terminals have been cooperating and using shared software since 2014 but this move will ensure that total throughput will increase and a greater range of cargo can be handled. “The Yug Terminal is already undergoing an upgrade with the construction of a new warehouse and logistics complex,” explained Dmitriy Kutateladze, Director Liner and Business Development, RUSCON.
Ruscon Sees Cargo Boost Despite Russian Downturn
Though Russian ports have seen a general decline in the number of containers handled, multimodal operator Ruscon reports it has seen its own numbers rise. Ruscon, a subsidiary of Russian container transport company Global Container Service (GCS), said it handled 65,793 laden containers in the first half of 2015 compared with 58,754 in the same period last year, representing an 11 percent increase. This is in contrast to the total volumes at the ports where Ruscon operates, with throughput at St Petersburg on the Baltic Sea falling by 28.5 percent…
