The ship-to-ship transfer of the oil from the FSO Safer to the replacement oil tanker Yemen (formerly known as Nautica) began last week.It was an important milestone in this United Nations-coordinated operation to avert a potential massive environmental and humanitarian disaster off the coast of Yemen.Boskalis reports that the oil transfer is progressing well and will take two to three weeks.Hydraulic pumps have been lowered into each tank of the FSO Safer. During the transfer operation, inert gas is supplied to keep the tank atmosphere at safe levels during the operation.

Malaysia's Perdana Petroleum's subsidiary, Perdana Nautika, has secured a contract for the provision of an anchor handling, Tug, and Supply (“AHTS”) vessel to RMS Synergy.The contract started on June 13, 2023, and has a 60-day duration. The contract is valued at around RM4.3 million (currently around $944,328).Perdana Nautica said it would provide an AHTS vessel with crews and equipment to perform a continuous service "for the purpose of assisting on the project activities."Perdana did not say what kind of project activities exactly the vessel would be supporting, nor which vessel exactly was deployed for the contract with the offshore support service provider RMS Synergy.

Nippon Paint Marine has signed a long-term supply contract with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings to provide antifouling systems to 13 cruise ships operating under the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands.The agreement, signed late last year, will see the coatings specialist apply its market-leading low-friction SPC antifouling, A-LF-Sea, to six Oceania vessels, five Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessels and Norwegian Cruise Lines ships Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Dawn.A-LF Sea has already been applied in eleven drydocks while three vessels…

Belgium-based crude oil tanker company Euronav has entered into a sale and leaseback agreement for three very large crude carriers (VLCC) vessels with Taiping & Sinopec Financial Leasing Ltd Co.The vessels were sold for a net en-bloc purchase price of USD 126 million. Under the agreement, Euronav will subsequently enter into a 54-month bareboat charter contract.The three VLCCs are the Nautica (2008 – 307,284), Nectar (2008 – 307,284) and Noble (2008 – 307,284), which were all built in the Dalian shipyard.The transaction produced a capital gain of about USD 23.0 million and will be booked as an operating lease under IFRS. After repayment of the existing debt, the transaction generated USD 66.6 million free cash. The vessels were delivered to their new owners on 30 December 2019.

Scanship, a Norwegian company that produces wastewater purification and waste management systems for vessels, has been awarded an advanced wastewater purification system (AWP) retrofit contract by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH).The contract is to deliver and install a Scanship AWP system on their Nautica vessel operated under their Oceania Cruises brand.The system will process all grey wastewater sources and black water to the industry highest environmental standard. The San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) has welcomed Pyxis, a new 445-passenger ferry, into the San Francisco Bay Ferry fleet.Pyxis is the first new vessel added to Vallejo ferry service in some 15 years, said a release from the public transit passenger ferry service in the San Francisco Bay.Pyxis is the fifth new ferry WETA has added to its San Francisco Bay Ferry fleet since 2017. Carina, a 400-passenger ferry, entered service in February 2019. Hydrus, Cetus and Argo – all also 400-passenger ferries – joined the fleet in 2017 and 2018.“Vallejo ferry passengers are going to love riding Pyxis,” said Nina Rannells, WETA’s executive director. “Our ridership has doubled since 2012, and we are working to grow our fleet to accommodate this growth.

South Africa’s ports are ramping up for another busy cruise season with at least14 luxury cruise lines and 20 vessels of varying sizesset to ferry international and domestic tourists across the country’s port cities. The 2016/17 South African cruise season kicks off on 1 November.MSC SINFONIA – the largest and most popular cruise ship in the local cruise calendar –will be a highlight when she arrives in her homeport of Durban in the early hours of Tuesday, 1 November on a journey from Venice, Italy, carrying 2600 European and South African passengers. The installation of IPS 900 showcases Volvo Penta’s state-of-the-art technology as the prime engine drive choice for commercial operators. South Africa’s ports are ramping up for a bumper cruise season with at least eight luxury cruise lines and over ten passenger vessels of varying sizes set to ferry international and domestic tourists across the country’s port cities. The South African cruise season kicked off officially in October with a number of smaller vessels already having called at South Africa’s ports. They are en route to and from travel hotspots in Africa, Europe, the Far East, the Mediterranean, South America and more. However the MSC SINFONIA – a cruise ship in the local cruise calendar – marked a highlight in the 2015/16 cruise calendar when she arrived in her homeport of Durban in the early hours of Thursday, November 19. This was her first South African call this season.

The overall number of orders is similar to the average ordering pace over the past 10 years, during which an average of roughly 25 production and storage floaters were ordered annually. But the ordering pace by type unit is quite different. FPSO orders in 2014 were 25% below the 13.5 average ordering pace over the past ten years – and in 2014 no orders were placed for Spars, TLPs or Production Semis, which between 2004 and 2013 averaged 3.5 orders per year. Offsetting these declines were gains in orders for FLNGs and FSRUs.

2014 Floater Orders – We thought it would be useful to provide a summary of floater orders placed last year. As listed below, 25 units were ordered during the year - 10 FPSOs, one Barge, four FLNGs, seven FSRUs and three FSOs. 2015 Outlook for Floater Orders – The drop in oil/gas prices and ongoing implosion in Petrobras have combined to create a perfect storm in the deepwater sector. More than 170 projects involving oil production floaters and 35 floating liquefaction projects are in the planning stage.

Great Lakes Shipyard, Cleveland, Ohio, will perform deck repairs to the Nautica Queen. The 124 ft long Nautica Queen was built in 1981 and is home-ported in Cleveland, Ohio on the west bank of the flats. The Nautica Queen can accommodate up to 400 passengers in the two enclosed decks and spacious observation deck on the top of the ship. The vessel hosts lunch and dinner cruises as well as Sunday brunch and also hosts corporate and birthday parties as well as wedding receptions.

Oceania Cruises announced that Regatta, Insignia and Nautica, its trio of R-Class ships, will undergo a transformation starting early next year in what the company said is the largest refurbishment program in its history. VT Halmatic has delivered an Arctic 24 rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to the island of Tristan da Cunha. Located in the South Atlantic, approximately 1,740 miles west of Cape Town, Tristan da Cunha is acknowledged as the world's most remote inhabited island. The island supports a thriving community concentrating on fishing and agriculture and the new RIB joins an existing VT Halmatic Pacific 38 RIB. The new Arctic 24 will be used as an additional fisheries patrol boat and fast rescue craft as well as search and rescue and policing duties. Based on a deep V hull form, the Arctic 24 is known as an off-shore RIB that is available in the market place and is capable of operating in the extreme sea states found around the island.

Ocean Cruises Inc. released a statement on an attempted act of piracy against one of its cruise ships. On November 30, 2008, at approximately 0928 local time, 0528 GMT, M/S Nautica was transiting through the Gulf of Aden within the prescribed Maritime Safety Protection Area which is patrolled by international anti-piracy task forces. As the vessel sailed past several groups of non-hostile fishing vessels, two small skiffs were sighted by the Officer on Duty and deemed potentially hostile.

The resurgence of shipbuilding in Brazil has led Cathelco to set up a joint venture with Workship do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro based marine equipment suppliers, which will now be known as Cathelco Brasil. Cathelco, based in the UK, is a manufacturer of marine pipework anti-fouling systems and impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems for ships, FPSOs and semi-submersibles. Great Lakes Shipyard has been awarded a contract for routine drydocking of the M/V Nautica Queen. The cruise vessel was hauled out using the 770-ton capacity Marine Travelift at Great Lakes Shipyard on Monday, November 10, 2014. The repair contract includes drydocking, USCG inspection and repairs, hull cleaning and painting, as well as miscellaneous steel repairs. The Nautica Queen offers cruises along Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio providing views of historic architecture and the ever-changing skyline of Downtown Cleveland.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. announced a definitive agreement with Princess Cruises, Ltd. to purchase Ocean Princess for its newly acquired Oceania Cruises brand. The 684-passenger ship, to be named Siren, joins Oceania Cruises' trio of recently refurbished sister ships Insignia, Regatta and Nautica. Upon delivery in March 2016, Sirena will immediately undergo a 35-day, $40 million refurbishment in Marseille, France to elevate the ship to the Oceania Cruises' standard of elegance.

Construction and testing of the unique Carrousel towing system and winch platform for use in the first of two innovative combi-tugs building in Malaysia for Dutch salvage and towage company Multraship has now been completed, and inspected by Bureau Veritas. Following sandblasting and painting, it will be shipped to Malaysian shipbuilder Nautica Nova Shipbuilding & Engineering (NNSE), where the tugs are presently being built. Construction of the towing system for the second vessel is well advanced, and the unit is expected to be shipped to Malaysia within the next two-to-three months. The Carrousel system and integrated winch platform were built in the Netherlands, and will be shipped in containers to Malaysia.
