Seacor Announces JV with Cosco Shipping Affiliates

Offshore services vessel operator SEACOR Marine Holdings Inc. said it has formed a jointly owned company with affiliates of the world’s largest ship owner, COSCO Shipping Group. The Marshall Islands company, SEACOSCO Offshore LLC, entered into contracts for the purchase of eight Rolls-Royce designed new construction platform supply vessels (PSV) from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. Six of the PSVs are of UT 771WP design (4,400 tons deadweight), and two are of UT 771CD design (3,800 tons deadweight).

Rolls-Royce Secures Island Offshore Contract

Rolls-Royce has won a $11.3 million order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for an offshore service vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore. The offshore service vessel will be built at VARD shipyard in Brevik, Norway and is due for delivery in January 2016. In March this year Island Offshore placed an order for two Rolls-Royce designed vessels, due for delivery in 2015 from the same shipyard. Wärtsilä Designed AHTS Delivered to COSL

Two new Wärtsilä designed Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels were delivered from the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group yard in China during the second week of September. The ships have been built for China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL), the largest fleet owner of offshore service vessels in China. The delivery of these two ships follows the success of the Wärtsilä designs for four AHTS and two Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) delivered in 2015 to the same customer, and which are now in regular operation.

New Rules for Offshore Service Vessels

The technical evolution of offshore support vessels (OSV) has prompted Germanischer Lloyd (GL) to publish new rules for ships intended for offshore support and supply, offshore towing, well stimulation, and other specialized offshore services. On 1 January 2010, new Rules for Hull Structures of Offshore Service Vessels will come into force. These rules apply to ships intended for offshore support and supply, offshore towing, well stimulation, and other specialized offshore services. For these ships the class notation Offshore Service Vessel will be assigned, complemented by optional further notations, such as HNLS for ships carrying hazardous and noxious liquid substances…

Offshore Service Vessels Sold

Buruna Raya Logistics has signed an order for three 101.7 ft. offshore service vessels. The vessels will be constructed at Strategic Marine’s Singapore Facility. Powered by three Cummins KTA 38 Engines giving the vessel a total of 3600 bhp, each vessel with be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 27 knots. The vessels will have the capacity to seat 50 passengers, provide accommodation for 8 crew members, and hold up to 134 tons of cargo on its 67 square meter cargo deck area. Source: Strategic Marine

Bureau Veritas Launches Wind Farm Service Ships Guidance

International classification society Bureau Veritas has published guidance for designers and builders of Wind Farm Service Ships. Maxime Pachot, offshore service vessel manager at Bureau Veritas, says, “Although some of the existing Offshore Service Vessel fleet can perform the tasks necessary for developing and maintaining offshore wind farms, we see an increasing need for specialist craft. These will include specialised vessels for servicing offshore wind farms. These will have particular characteristics and to be efficient they will have to be new designs.

Rolls-Royce Receives Brasil Supply Order

Rolls-Royce has announced that it has won an order valued at over $24 million to design and equip two offshore service vessels for ship owner Brasil Supply. The vessels, of the Rolls-Royce UT775 E design, will be chartered by Brazil’s state oil company Petrobras and are designed for carrying fluids and solid cargo to and from offshore oil and gas platforms. They will be built by Estaleiro Ilha S.A. in Brazil, for delivery in 2013, and feature a fully-integrated equipment system from Rolls-Royce, including ship propulsion, deck machinery, and vessel control systems.

Bureau Veritas Issues New Rules for OSVs, Tugs

Classification society Bureau Veritas has issued new rules for the Classification of Offshore Service Vessels and Tugs, including new class notations for pipelay vessels, accommodation units, offshore construction vessels and offshore support vessels. Gijsbert de Jong, Bureau Veritas Marine Marketing and Sales Director, said: “With this new publication Bureau Veritas provides the industry with a clear framework for the classification of offshore service vessels and tugs based on an end-user friendly system of class notations reflecting the terminology used by the industry.

New DPO Certification Authority Announced

OSVDPA seeks to start training and certifying DPOs by the end of this year. A new organization, the Offshore Service Vessel Dynamic Positioning Authority, Inc. (OSVDPA), held its first board meeting Thursday, March 12, charting the course toward a new dynamic positioning operator (DPO) certificate specially designed for the offshore service vessel industry. Incorporated as a non-profit, the OSVDPA is seeking to improve the safety of the maritime industry by improving the quality and quantity of certified DPOs. The Authority’s training and certification system will seek to emulate the structure of existing DPO certification methods with some enhancements. Specifically, the Authority’s system is unique in its change of emphasis from measuring sea-time to assessing competence.

Rolls-Royce Gets Offshore Vessel Contracts

Rolls-Royce has won contracts worth $76 million to supply design and equipment packages for nine offshore service vessels which will be built in four different shipyards for owners in Brazil, France, Norway and the U.S. The ship designs and packages of Rolls-Royce equipment will be supplied in 2002 and 2003, and the shipyards, located in Brazil, Denmark and Norway are scheduled to deliver the vessels in 2003 and 2004. There are currently 71 offshore service vessels of the type UT-Design from Rolls Royce on order or under construction around the world. Rolls-Royce Wins S. American Contracts

Rolls-Royce won contracts for six platform supply vessels (PSV) worth around £45 million, including the first offshore orders from Chile. CBO (Companhia Brasileira de Offshore) has ordered four UT-Design type UT 715 L offshore supply vessel design and equipment packages. The 3,000 tonne deadweight PSVs are to be built by Allianca shipyard near Rio de Janeiro for delivery in 2009 and 2010. The vessels will go straight into long-term charters with the Brazilian state oil company, Petrobras. The other UT-Design contract is from the Chilean shipyard Asnavales (Astilleros y Servicios Navales) S.A, which is to build two UT 745 CD (clean design) supply vessels for an international shipowner.

Davie Shipyard Float-out the First for Two Decades

The traditional smashing of a champagne bottle on the first ship built at Canada’s oldest and biggest shipyard marked the christening ceremony and float-out of the 'Cecon Pride' in front of some 1,000 guests at the Davie Shipyard, also signalling the resurgence of shipbuilding in Quebec, informs the Gazette Montreal. The Cecon Pride is the 717th vessel to be built at the Davie shipyard, which was itself launched in 1825. This offshore service vessel is 130-m in length and specifically built to operate in the harsh conditions of the North Sea oilfields.

Hellespont Expands into Singapore

The Hamburg-based Hellespont group has expanded its operations by opening a new company in Singapore. Hellespont Singapore Pte Ltd is responsible for developing relationships with key offshore charterers in Singapore, sourcing crews for the Hellespont-managed PSV fleet and establishing Hellespont as operators of offshore vessels in Singapore. Phrixos Papachristidis, Managing Director of Hellespont AG & Co KG, the parent company of the German-based Hellespont ship management and marine services group, said, “We have a growing fleet of offshore vessels and we wanted to place the management and operation close to key charterers. Singapore is a key hub for offshore operations and ideal for operating our new fleet of PSVs.

Farstad Bags Petrobras Contract

Norwegian provider of offshore service vessels for the oil and gas industry Farstad Shipping ASA has entered into two charter contracts in Brazil. Both vessels were hired by the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petróleo Brasileiro, more commonly known as Petrobras. Petrobras has awarded the PSV Far Strider (1999, VS 483, 4,709 DWT) a 4 year contract with expected commencement in April 2016. Petrobras has also awarded the AHTS BOS Turquesa (2007, UT 722 L, 18,088 BHP) a 1 year contract with a further 1 year option. The vessel has commenced the contract.

Rolls-Royce Wins Italian OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce announced an £11million order to design and equip two offshore service vessels for Italian ship owner Fratelli D’Amato.These UT 755 XL vessels will carry out operations in the offshore oil and gas sector and will be built at the Rosetti Marino S.p.A shipyard in Italy. The order includes an integrated system of Rolls-Royce equipment including thrusters for manoeuvring, rudders, propellers, deck machinery and a bulk handling system for the safe loading of fluids and solid cargo. The vessels are due to be delivered by the end of 2013. Ulstein Delivers PSV Blue Queen

Platform supply vessel (PSV) Blue Queen, of Ulstein’s PX121 design, was delivered to Blue Ship Invest from Ulstein Verft on February 24, 2015. This vessel is the first of two for which Norway-based Golden Energy offshore is awarded the ship management contract. In total, 30 vessels of this design have been contracted by different shipowners for construction at various shipyards worldwide, Ulstein noted. Blue Queen is the ninth being constructed at Ulstein Verft.
