Gas to Overtake Oil as Primary Energy Source by Mid-2030s

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of oil and gas sector leaders expect to increase or sustain spending on gas projects in 2018, as the sector prepares for gas to overtake oil as the world’s primary energy source in the mid-2030s. Confidence in the case for gas is growing, according to a survey by DNV GL, the technical advisor to the industry. The vast majority (86%) of the 813 senior industry professionals surveyed agree that gas - the least carbon-intensive fossil fuel - will play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix over the next decade, up from 77% last year.

BW Offshore's Adolo Commences Transit to Gabon

The provider of floating production services to the oil and gas industry BW Offshore is pleased to announce the sail away of the FPSO BW Adolo. The vessel has left anchorage in Singapore and is currently in transit to the Tortue field offshore Gabon. BW Adolo is expected to arrive at the field in August 2018. "We are firmly on track for first oil later this year", said Carl K. Arnet, the CEO of BW Offshore. The BW Adolo has an oil storage capacity of 1,350,000 barrels and a production capacity of 40,000 barrels of oil per day.

ASEAN Members Strengthen Oil Spill Preparedness

Oil spill contingency planning is in the spotlight at an IMO regional workshop in Pulau Indah, Malaysia (2-6 July). The workshop is helping countries (ASEAN Member States: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.) in South East Asia become more familiar with the ASEAN Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan - designed to enhance cooperation between States. Gas to Become World's Primary Energy Source by 2035

Oil and gas will be crucial components of the world’s energy future, according to DNV GL’s forecast of the energy transition. While renewable energy will grow its share of the energy mix, oil and gas will account for 44% of world energy supply in 2050, compared to 53% today.Gas will become the largest single source of energy from 2034.DNV GL’s Energy Transition Outlook (ETO), a forecast that spans the global energy mix to 2050, predicts that global demand for energy will flatten in 2030, then steadily decline over the next two decades, thanks to step-changes in energy efficiency.

Stanford Marine in Talks About Sale of Business

Creditors of Stanford Marine Group (SMG), which has links to troubled private equity firm Abraaj, are in talks with three potential buyers, sources familiar with the matter say.Banks are overseeing control of Dubai-based SMG after it failed to meet the terms of its debt obligations due to financial stress linked to a steep fall in chartering rates, the sources said.SMG, which operates offshore supply vessels that service the oil and gas industry, is 51 percent owned by a fund managed by Abraaj.

MISC Berhad Names FSO Benchamas 2

MISC Berhad held the naming and delivery ceremony of its new Floating, Storage & Offloading (FSO) facility for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Limited (COTL), the FSO Benchamas 2. The project marks MISC’s maiden foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas sector as well as its first partnership with COTL in the offshore space. The contract for the lease and operations FSO was secured through an international competitive bidding process and was signed between MISC Offshore Floating Terminals (L) Limited (MOFT) and COTL in August 2016.

Karl-Petter Løken has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the international contracting company Kvaerner. Løken succeeds Jan Arve Haugan, who left Kvaerner for a position at Aker Energy. Kvaerner's EVP & CFO Idar Eikrem will continue as interim CEO until Løken steps into the role this spring after ending his current position as head of Project Development for Lundin Norway. Since 1991, Løken has held positions in the oil and gas industry for companies like Statoil, Aker Solutions and Lundin Norway.

PD&MS Group Wins $14m in Decommissioning Work

PD&MS Group secured a trio of contracts worth more than $14 million across three major North Sea late-life projects in the last six months. The latest award for the Aberdeen-headquartered company is a multimillion-pound contract from Spirit Energy to decommission the topsides on two of its unmanned Morecambe Bay gas field drilling platforms, located in the East Irish Sea. PD&MS is currently supporting similar decommissioning projects of North Sea installations for two major operators through offshore heavy lift contractor, Allseas Group S.A.

Aberdeen headquartered Sentinel Marine said it has taken delivery of the latest in its fleet of multi-role emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs). Biscay Sentinel was delivered at the Cosco Guangzhou shipyard in China this month and is expected to arrive in Aberdeen in early May. She will immediately join Sentinel Marine’s fleet of ERRVs providing support and lifesaving services to the oil and gas industry in the North Sea. BW Offshore Gets FPSO Abo extension

Global provider of floating production services to the oil and gas industry BW Offshore has signed an interim extension agreement for Abo FPSO with Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd, a subsidiary of ENI S.p.A., until 30 April 2018. The short term extension has been agreed to secure operational continuity while joint work is continuing to conclude the negotiations. Two weeks ago, BW Offshore received notice from Petrobras of the exercise of a one-year extension of the contracts relating to the FPSO Cidade de São Mateus.

Subsea 7 S.A. announced it was awarded a contract by Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN) for the Production Uplift Pipeline Projects (PUPP) in shallow water, offshore Nigeria. The contract scope includes engineering, construction, transportation, installation and pre-commissioning of 20 kilometres of 24" Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) pipeline between the Idoho Platform and the terminal onshore and of 2 kilometres of 24" CRA pipeline between the Edop and Idoho Platforms, as well as associated topside modifications and tie-ins at both ends.

Fournier Joins The Ulven Companies as Sales VP

DNV GL Develops Offshore Safety Guidance for Greek Regulator

DNV GL said it has completed a workscope with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under funding provided by the EU, to develop guidance for the Greek offshore safety competent authority, Hellenic Ηydrocarbons Resources Management (HHRM), under Greek law 4409/2016 which enacts EU directive (2013/30/EE) on offshore safety. The offshore major hazards guidance was presented to several international and domestic companies and the ministry of environment and energy in Athens, on March 1, 2018.

Oil and Gas Industry Looks to Digitalization

New research from DNV GL, the technical advisor to the oil and gas industry, reveals that 46% of senior professionals in the sector believe there has been underinvestment in inspection and maintenance of infrastructure and equipment in recent years. Just a quarter (28%) said that they expect to increase spending on safety in 2018. 61% will maintain current budgets and 5% plan to cut investment. The findings appear in The State of Safety, a special report from DNV GL’s research on the outlook for the oil and gas industry in 2018.

First Damen Fast Crew Supplier with Ampelmann Gangway

The partnership between Damen Shipyards Group and Ampelmann to extend the benefits of motion-compensated gangway systems to fast crew supply vessels has reached a major landmark. At the end of March, the first Damen fast crew supply (FCS) vessel to be fitted with an Ampelmann L-type system began operations in the Gulf of Guinea.
