Damen Delivers Its Largest Shoalbuster to Date
The first of Damenâs new Shoalbuster 3512 class was recently handed over to Dutch marine services specialist Van Wijngaarden Marine Services B.V. in the port of Boven-Hardinxveld, the Netherlands. At the ceremony the Lady Sponsor Elske de Bruijn-de Vries officially named the vessel and made a speech praising the technical capabilities of the vessel. Elske de Bruijn-de Vries is the wife of C.A. (Niels) de Bruijn, a member of the executive board of Van Oord, and is well-known for her role in the TV show âHet mooiste meisje van de klasâ.
SMM 2014 Witnesses Record Turnout
SMM was another full success. With more than 2,100 exhibitors from all around the world, including 150 first-timers, with 50,000 industry visitors and roughly 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, SMM has demonstrated once again what it means to be the leading international trade fair of the maritime industry. International fluid handling specialist Hamworthy is to open a new dedicated service centre in Brazil. The new service center represents a direct investment in a market that has offered sustained growth for the companyâs oil and gas handling systems and pump systems businesses in recent years. With offices in Rio and planned workshops and warehousing operations in Macae it will support customers through easy access to spare parts from a domestic warehouse and qualified service personnel for all Hamworthy products, as well as related products and equipment installed onboard. Hamworthy Supports Brazilian Offshore Oil & Gas Finds
Hamworthy Oil & Gas Systems was recently awarded a major contract by Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Promar SA for the design and supply of cargo handling systems for eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers destined for operation by Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras. The vessels will be designed by Hamworthyâs specialist naval architecture consultancy in Poland, along with the cargo tanks and cargo handling system. In 2007 the Oil & Gas Systems business secured an order for its regasification technology onboard the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) Golar Winter. Located in Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, the vessel has an important role in supplying gas to the Rio de Janeiro area.
MTU Engine with Centrifugal Oil-Separation
MTU Series 60 engines for the marine market now feature a centrifugal oil separator that is 99 percent efficient at de-oiling crankcase ventilation gases. The oil-separation system prevents contamination of the turbocharger, and requires no maintenance throughout the life of the engine other than periodic inspection of clamps and hoses. This results in a reduction of the life cycle cost of the engine. The centrifugal oil separator employs an 8,000 rpm centrifuge that eliminates oil and soot in crankcase ventilation gases. âEliminating oil from crankcase ventilation gases helps control emissions,â said Steve Neil, senior manager of marine service technical support, MTU Detroit Diesel. âIt also increases the closed crankcase ventilation system efficiency of the Series 60 Marine engine.
J. Ray Wins More Work in Saudi Arabia
J. Ray McDermott, S.A., a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc., announced that it was recently awarded additional work under the Long-Term Agreement (LTA) with Saudi Aramco. This latest project, which is expected to continue through 2010, consists of the procurement, fabrication and installation of three decks, jackets, associated pipelines, and the installation of three new shallow water crude oil pipelines, totaling 15 kilometers in length, in the South Safaniya oil field, offshore Saudi Arabia. The pipelines will divert crude oil production flow from three existing platforms to other facilities before reaching the Safaniya onshore Gas Oil Separator Plant.
Alfa Laval Enters Agreement with European Shipyards
The supplier frame agreement is made between Alfa Laval and Euroship, a group of European shipyards made up of Chantiers de lâAtlantique, Alstom Marine of France, Fincantieri S. p. A. of Italy, Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft and Jos. L. Meyer Werft of Germany and Izar Construcciones Navales S. A. of Spain. The frame agreement covers supplies of fuel oil and lube oil separator modules for the new constructions built at the Euroship yards. The aim is to co-ordinate standards between Alfa Laval and Euroship so that supplies can be specified and shipped according to agreed standards, thereby improving delivery times and lowering costs for all parties involved.
