Danish Maritime Authority improves information for seafarers

From January 2, 2017, Notices to Mariners will be available via a new and improved online system that also presents navigation warnings and shooting warnings. In the future, Notices to Mariners will be issued and made available on an ongoing basis and not only on Fridays. It will become possible to view the information graphically in a chart as well as in a new improved list format. Christian Kopp Pedersen, Manager of Navigation and Information in the Danish Maritime Authority, ”The new chart view will provide a far better overview of which notices are of relevance to each individual user. It will be possible to download and bring along the information offline and it will also be possible to access historical information by means of a search function.

DMA's New Online System for Seafarers

From 2 January 2017, Notices to Mariners will be available via a new and improved online system that also presents navigation warnings and shooting warnings. The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) also launches a digital solution for verification of the validity of seafarers' certificates. In the future, Notices to Mariners will be issued and made available on an ongoing basis and not only on Fridays. It will become possible to view the information graphically in a chart as well as in a new improved list format. Western Cape Ports Now 'smartPORTS'

The Ports of Cape Town and Saldanha became the latest to go live with Transnet National Ports Authority’s new R79 million web-based Integrated Port Management System (IPMS), first introduced at the pilot site, the Port of Durban in July. IPMS replaces manual processes and enables key port operations to managed online and in real time across TNPA’s eight commercial ports. All vessels arriving at the two Western Cape ports between August 26-31 will be allowed priority registration, provided vessels agents are trained.

TOS, AutoGates Boost Liverpool Port Throughput

Peel Ports, owners and operators of the Port of Liverpool, has achieved a major milestone in its multi-million investment programme to transform the port into Europe’s first semi-automated container terminal. Indonesia: Port Operation to Go Online in September

The Indonesian government is expected to start operation of a new online system at the country’s four major ports in September this year. The operation of the long awaited Inaportnet system, which will allow traders to request clearances and permits online to move cargoes will be operational by September this year, according to the Transportation Ministry's sea transportation director general, Bobby Mamahit. Tanjung Priok port has already operated the system since last year and it is expected to be integrated into the country’s three other main seaports, namely Belawan in North Sumatra, Makassar in South Sulawesi and Tanjung Perak in East Java.

Peel Ports Invests in AutoGate System at Liverpool

Peel Ports have awarded a £5.5 million contract to Kalmar Global and APS Technology to install smart AutoGates technology at its £300m deep-water expansion project at the Port of Liverpool (example Baltimore)

Peel Ports Group has committed £5.5 million to introducing advanced infrastructure and AutoGates technology as part of its ongoing investment at the Port of Liverpool. With the £300 million deepwater Liverpool2 expansion due to be open next year, this latest development is set to strengthen the port-side logistics required to support increased cargo volume. At present, a manual system is currently in place, requiring drivers to register at a site office, where they complete a form and wait for clearance before entering.

Powerful Dredger Named in Rotterdam

The Ambiorix is one of the most powerful and advanced cutter suction dredgers in the world and was built for the DEME Group at the IHC Merwede shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, the Netherlands. The new dredger is able to dredge to a water depth of 35 meters and can work heavy soil and hard rock. The Ambiorix is equipped with two inboard dredge pumps and one submerged dredge pump on the cutter ladder. It also has a barge-loading system, which can load barges moored alongside the dredger. Chemoil joins OceanConnect

OceanConnect has attracted the largest independent fuel supplier as a new equity partner. OceanConnect President Thomas Reilly announced that Chemoil Corporation has acquired an equity stake and is using OceanConnect as its exclusive online system for buying and selling fuels. Online Design, Drafting Offered

Shipyards and marine and offshore fabrication facilities across North America are being offered a new way to fill their design and drafting requirements. Genoa Design International Ltd. has launched a unique web-based system that facilitates the delivery of detail design and drafting services through the Internet. From its base in Newfoundland, Canada, Genoa Design manages projects through a combination of traditional and on-line technologies. Detail design, drafting and 3-D modeling work is done by in-house designers and engineering technologists using industry-standard computer applications. Project management is handled through the Design Information Control System, Genoa's copyrighted Internet software.
