ATTC Celebrates 75 Years
In 1940, Jack Walters, Sr. started manufacturing oxy-fuel cutting tips in a makeshift workshop in his home. As the demand for materials and manufacturing brought on by World War II increased, Walters started American Torch Tip Co. (ATTC) in a small, rented garage in Pittsburgh, Pa. Seventy-five years later, ATTCâs manufacturing plant and headquarters now occupy approximately 72,000 sq. ft., spanning three buildings in Bradenton, Fla. Titan Completes Crane Removal, Port-au-Prince
Titan Salvage has safely removed the partially submerged Washington Gantry crane and other navigational hazards from Port-au-Prince, Haiti for the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). The company's work helped to re-establish port infrastructure and significantly increase the volume of marine cargo into Haiti following the devastating earthquake in January. The largest and most hazardous obstruction removed was a 300-metric ton gantry crane, which was partially submerged and listing towards the harbor at approximately 15 degrees, blocking access to the northern dock.

Nichols Brothers Boatbuilders are building a highspeed catamaran ferry for San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation district. Designed by International Catamaran Designs (INCAT) of Sydney Australia, this will be Nichols Brothers 27th U.S. built highspeed catamaran. The vessel will be 139 ft. overall with a 34-ft. beam and draft of 9 ft. The individual hulls will have a beam of 9 ft.. A 37-knot speed is predicted with four 16-cylinder Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines delivering 1,600 hp each at 1800 rpm. Each IMO emission certified engine will drive a Hamilton model 571 water jet through a ZF Marine BU 460D marine gear. Electrical service will be provided by a 125 kW generator set powered by a Cummins Marine 6CT8.3DM engine.
Ship Repair & Conversion Report
Subsequent to the departure of Holland America's Statendam in April, Cascade General took in Crystal Cruises' Crystal Harmony for a 10-day stopover in May. The 10-year-old ship underwent maintenance and overhaul work below its waterline, extensive interior remodeling and steel replacement for pool areas on Deck 11. With maximization of work in mind, Cascade normally sends advanced crews to join cruise ships on their way to the yard's Portland, Ore. locale. This time though, the first mobile crew met the ship in Los Angeles, where work commenced immediately on an overhaul of one of Harmony's auxiliary boilers. A second team was then summoned to San Francisco to clean ballast tanks before undertaking structural repairs and preservation work. easuring 790 ft.
Promotion Launched for Yemen Offshore Blocks
Oil is the key corner of the development process of Yemeni economy. The Ministry of Oil and Minerals headed by the Minister Khalid M. Bahah and the Petroleum Exploration Production Authority (PEPA) have launched a massive campaign promoting Yemens offshore oil blocks. Recently, the Ministry held a promotional conference to highlight the features of investing in Yemen and to call on investors to place their bids for the new 11 Offshore Oil blocks that are up for grabs. The blocks are located in the Red Sea, blocks 55, 22 and 23; Gulf of Aden, blocks 46, 61, 62 and 63 and Socotra basin, blocks 93, 94, 95, and 96. The conference was a success with more than 40 big oil firms attending including Shell, British Petroleum, Exxon Mobil, Oxy, Nexen, Oil Search and CCC.
