Mega Yacht Shipped from Lavrion to Dubai

In early October, cargo vessel MV Rickmers Dalian made a stop-over at the anchorage off Lavrion in Greece to load a mega yacht for shipment to Dubai, where she was discharged on October 19. The shipment of the 50-meter-long, 340-metric-ton yacht was coordinated and booked by Rickmers-Linie’s customer Cigisped, who specializes in the organization of yacht shipments of all sizes. MV Rickmers Dalian (30,000dwt) is one of nine identical sister vessels of the Superflex Heavy MPC Class employed in Rickmers-Linie’s Round-The-World Pearl String service.

Rickmers-Linie Transports Railway Cranes to China

Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based liner carrier for break bulk, heavy lifts and project cargoes has again been chosen by Kirow for the transportation of railway cranes from Hamburg to Xingang. The shipment in August marked the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the two companies. The shipment contained six cranes of the type KRC 2880, with 20 more units of the type KRC 1680 are to follow into 2015. Kirow has been a long-term supplier of the Chinese railways. The company has already delivered a number of railway cranes for the ever expanding railway network in China.

NSA, Rickmers-Linie Partner for Puerto Rico Service

National Shipping of America (NSA), which operates a fortnightly service between Houston, Port Everglades and Puerto Rico, has partnered with Rickmers-Linie (America) to provide more global connections to Puerto Rico shippers and greatly expand break bulk service opportunities to the island. Rickmers-Linie will also serve as general sales agent for National Shipping in North America. The NSA vessel service, called the Isla Verde Express, connects the U.S. Mainland with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, offering the fastest transit times and using the most modern, greenest vessel in the trade.

Rickmers-Linie added a 10th vessel on its eastbound Round-the-World Pearl String Service as part of its continuing program of investment in its services. The global breakbulk, heavylift and project specialist has taken the Rickmers Savannah on long-term charter to help it meet customer demand. Rickmers-Linie to Charter Additional Heavy Lift MPV

Rickmers-Linie will charter into its fleet the 19,100dwt Pacific Winter, a sister ship of Baltic Winter, originally chartered in by Rickmers in December 2011. Rickmers will also extend the existing charter on Baltic Winter. With her 800-ton lift capacity, the 2011-built Baltic Winter has been a successful addition to the Rickmers-Linie fleet, the company said, and both she and her 2012-built sister will now be given Rickmers names. They will also feature the Rickmers-Linie logo on their hulls and Rickmers funnel colours.

Rickmers-Linie Establishes Westbound Round-The-World Service

Rickmers-Linie is launching a Westbound Round-The-World Service, connecting areas of economic growth in Asia and South America and then on to North America. The America-Asia westbound service established in 2006 now forms a part of this new service. The Hamburg-based specialist in the worldwide ocean transportation of breakbulk, heavy lifts and project cargoes announced the decision on the first day of the Breakbulk China 2013 event in Shanghai. Ulrich Ulrichs, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Rickmers-Linie, said: "Having introduced our Round-The-World Pearl String Service with an eastbound rotation ten years ago, we are convinced that the time to start up a similar concept in the other direction has now come.

Nagoya, Japan joins Rickmers' Rotation

Nagoya, Japan joins Rickmers' Round-the-World Pearl String Service. As from September 2012, the port of Nagoya will be added to Rickmers-Linie’s Round-The-World Pearl String Service schedule on a monthly basis. Shippers will now be able to ship directly to Houston, New Orleans, Savannah, Philadelphia, Antwerp and Hamburg. The service also offers additional relay opportunities over Rickmers' hub port in Houston to other ports in the Caribbean and Central/South America. The upgraded service will employ nine Rickmers Hamburg-class vessels, purpose-designed conventional vessels with strengthened pontoon tweendecks, hold lengths up to 32 meters and shipboard cranes that can be twinned to lift up to 640mt. These 30,000dwt ships are not dependent on the availability of landside heavylift cranes.

Rickmers Tianjin Named in Mumbai

As part of its upgrading program for its Europe India service, Rickmers-Linie, has added the 17,000dwt newbuilding Rickmers Tianjin to the schedule. The base ports served are Hamburg, Antwerp, Genoa, Mumbai and Chennai but the service is capable of serving a wide variety of additional ports on inducement. Rickmers Tianjin joins her sistership Rickmers Yokohama and the charter ships Linde, Martin and Baltic Winter on the Indian service. On her maiden voyage from Europe, Rickmers Tianjin was named in the Port of Mumbai on 9 January.

Rickmers-Linie Upgrades Indian Service with New Vessels

Rickmers-Linie, the German liner specialist for project cargoes and heavy lifts, is upgrading its Indian service with the addition of new vessels. It will also provide a direct service both eastbound and westbound between Europe and India although calls in Pakistan and the Middle East will be possible on an inducement basis. Rickmers-Linie Ships Kirow Railway Cranes to China

Extraordinary shipments are a common sight at the Wallmann terminal in Hamburg. The breakbulk terminal, in which Rickmers-Linie holds a share of just over 25 per cent, specialises in the handling of out-of-gauge, heavy lift and project cargo. At the end of September 2010, a particularly unusual cargo was loaded onto the multipurpose vessel Rickmers Jakarta: three rail-mounted cranes manufactured by Kirow AG en route for the Far East. The shipment is bound for Xingang, China, where it is scheduled to arrive on 24 November 2010.

Rickmers-Linie Wins Best Shipping Line Again

For the second time in a row, Rickmers-Linie, the breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo specialist headquartered in Hamburg, won the category Best Shipping Line - Project Cargo in the annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA). In a gala dinner held on 10 June 2010 at the Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel, Dirk Wittkowski, Senior Representative of Rickmers-Linie in China, accepted the award from Caesar Yiu, Global Director Leasing at Thermo King in front of an audience of some 400 guests from the shipping, transport and logistics industry.

Port of Hamburg, 310 Tonne Turbine

The second largest gas turbine ever manufactured by Siemens in Berlin was recently loaded onto the breakbulk vessel Rickmers Jakarta at the Wallmann-Terminal in Hamburg for shipment to Singapore. Weighing 310 tonnes, the turbine is able to generate electricity in an extremely efficient and therefore environmentally friendly manner. It is to be installed in a new gas and steam turbine power station in the island state, which is due to start operations in 2010 and can claim an energy efficiency of 80 percent.

Heavyweight to China via Hamburg

As a manufacturer of rollers, the Siegen-based Gontermann-Peipers company is a long-standing customer of the Rickmers Line. But it was not until this February that the weight of a roller topped the 250 ton limit. Based in Hamburg, Rickmers is a specialist in the worldwide consignment of general and project cargo as well as heavy-lift freight. The company was responsible for sending the 254 ton roller on its way to China. The roller was loaded onto the Rickmers Hamburg at Hamburg's Wallmann Terminal. The ship is equipped with special cranes for handling heavy goods.

Rickmers-Linie Adds Tenth Vessel

In a move to increase capacity on its core service, the Round-The-World Pearl String Service, Rickmers-Linie has chartered the 30,000dwt Cape Darby for a period of two years. The ship is a near sister to the Superflex Heavy MPC vessels, which the company received from Chinese shipyards in 2002 to 2004. The vessel will be renamed Rickmers Houston before being phased into service in South East Asia in June/July 2008. In many aspects the vessel is identical to her nine Pearl String sisters. Rickmers Houston was built in China in 2001 and is equipped with tweendecks in all five holds. Her service speed is 18 knots. The vessel’s length is 192.90 m, its breadth 27.80 m and the maximum draft 11.20 m.

Rickmers-Linie Celebrates 200th Voyage

Rickmers Chennai, a multipurpose heavylift vessel of Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based specialist in the global transportation of breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo, departed Hamburg on for the 200th voyage of a Rickmers vessel to the Middle East and India. Rickmers-Linie introduced its regular and direct multipurpose service from Europe to the Middle East in 1991 and added India to its schedule two years later. The main loading ports are Antwerp, Hamburg and Genoa with Dammam, Ras Laffan, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as Mumbai and Chennai as main discharge ports. Further ports are called on inducement. Sailings are offered every three weeks and performed by four multipurpose vessels with a capacity of approximately 23,000 dwt each and a lifting capacity of up to 250 tonnes.

Rickmers-Linie Superflex MPC Loads Up in Japan

Rickmers Shanghai, fourth in a chain of nine new Superflex Heavy Multi-Purpose Container (MPC) sister vessels being built in China for Hamburg-based global project liner and heavy lift specialist Rickmers-Linie, has loaded a heavy-lift consignment at the port of Moji in Japan. The vessel, delivered in March 2003, is deployed in the company's newly inaugurated Round-The-World Pearl String Service. Rickmers Shanghai, whose gear has been designed and constructed for the lifting of heavy cargo and the performance of complex loading programs, reached Moji on July 22, 2003.

Rickmers Singapore Christened in Namesake City

Rickmers Singapore, one of nine new Superflex Heavy Multi-Purpose Container (MPC) vessels being built in China for Rickmers-Linie, Hamburg, was christened on September 5, 2003 in its namesake city Singapore. Rickmers Singapore is employed on Rickmers' Round-The-World Pearl String Service having been delivered to the company in March 2003. The ship has since proven its reliability and is now performing its second circumnavigation. On its christening call, the vessel discharged among other cargo 12 modules, each of which had a unit weight between 130 and 145 tons. Karin Gänger, wife of Ulf Gänger, former Director of the Hamburgische Landesbank (now HSH Nordbank), acted as the vessel's godmother.

Massive Tunnel Boring Machine Shipped

construction of a 4.05km long road tunnel in Kuala Lumpur, has been loaded on board Rickmers Singapore and is currently being shipped eastbound to the port of discharge, Port Kelang in Malaysia. The massive tunnel boring machine (TBM) was built by Herrenknecht AG, which manufactures an entire range of mechanical tunneling machines in Schwanau, Germany. responsible for the transportation of the entire project from ex-factory to the construction site in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hamburg-based global project liner and heavy lift specialist. The TBM was carried from Schwanau down the Rhine to Antwerp by barge where the component parts were stowed on board Rickmers Singapore. The two heaviest pieces comprised the 13.21m diameter cutting head weighing 120 tons and another piece weighing 145 tons.

Sinotrans, Rickmers-Linie Strengthen Ties

Sinotrans Ltd. and Rickmers-Linie GmbH & Cie. KG are going to strengthen their co-operation in the business field of worldwide transportation and logistics services of containers, break-bulk, project cargo and heavy lifts. The co-operation will include shipping agency business, domestic transportation and logistics services within the People’s Republic of China as well as container slot charter activities related to the Rickmers-Linie liner services network, with emphasis on all traffic into and from the People’s republic of China. For the port of Qingdao, an agency contract has been signed already and Sinotrans begun acting for and on behalf of Rickmers-Linie since 1 June 2003.
